  1. Sweetcorn????
  2. What are you saying here???
  3. When Hollywood says "based on a true story," it means that they take names and an event, and then embelish the holy crap out of it to make it interesting enough for everyone to watch. As for Dux, I have heard lots of negatives about him. As for the movie, I like it. As for the story...well, it is a good story.
  4. Take a rest. Start with a week off, and see how it goes.
  5. Keep it up!
  6. I think that either of these would suit your needs. However, you may want to find something that is martial arts specific as well. Human Kinetics may have some stuff that interests you as well.
  7. Zorbasan made a good point. The ITF TKD has more similarities to Shotokan than the WTF does. Some of the forms have similarities, but TKD doesn't do the bunkai.
  8. Thanks, MisterRadley! Just came off of the top of my head. Reading some Iain Abernethy helped with that one.
  9. I have never heard tornado kick. That's new to me.
  10. That is a good strategy, Zorbasan. I may have to give that a try.
  11. I like to do them because I think they are fun. I don't do them for self-defense purposes, nor do I do them often in sparring.
  12. Actually, I have to disagree with you on this. When practicing the bunkai for our kata's we're defending/countering against the same type of attacks that we would give. Straight punches to the ziphoid process, throat, or head.....karate style kicks, straight or round.....and countering tuite/jujitsu holds. We certainly aren't relying on our opposition being unskilled, because when the technique's are demonstrated by our instructors we aren't throwing bogus technique's at them. I like this idea. I would approach the bunkai training with both ways in mind.
  13. I don't know of any karate camps around, but I have had experience with such activities. I think it was in 1994, I went to the Rocky Mountain Workout that the ATA held. It was a weekend thing, with an assortment of different classes you could take. You got about three or four in per day, and broke for lunch and dinner. I had a blast. I hope you can find one, too!
  14. I like to think that kata practice helps with skill development. If you take them away, you will lose out on some of the skills. I guess you could take them away, and then every martial art would be like kickboxing.
  15. Talk with her, and see what you can work out. If she is taking you there, and is worried about an injury, she may have good cause.
  16. I think meditation is useful, but I don't know that it is important. I have never meditated, really, so I can't offer much on it.
  17. In TKD, I know it as the jump 360 degree inner crescent kick or round kick.
  18. Why do you have to prove it? Personally, I don't think you have to. I am making the point in relation to some of the other comments made in earlier posts.
  19. This is agood point, too.
  20. The acting wasn't too bad, was it? As for the MA, it was ok.
  21. Well, you would start with a control group, and then have a martial arts group, and have them each doing similar tests. Also having the various weight classes so to speak would be good as well.
  22. Confidence, not cocky. There is a fine line between the two. As far as the fighting thing, being able to defend yourself successfully is important for a martial artist. The question is, how should you go about proving it? Through tournaments? They don't resemble the street enough. NHB contests? Not everyone is cut out for it, nor has the time to train for it. So how do you prove it?
  23. Ok, folks, football is here. This is my favorite sport by far, and I also play in a fantasy league. I am a HUGE Kansas City Chiefs fan. A die-hard fan. Through thick and thin (and boy, has it been thin lately!). I thought I would start this thread and try to keep it going throughout the season. I'll throw in my weakly shpeal on the Chiefs game, and maybe something about the fantasy side of it as well. If anyone wants to talk/brag/cry about their teams' performance as well, feel free! Ok, week 1, Kansas City. Kind of what I expected. NO offensive line....kind of expected this with the retirement of all pro left tackle Willie Roaf, and the departure of all pro full back Tony Richardson. I was pleased with the defense, and should have started defensive end Jared Allen on my fantasy team. Holding the Bengals offense to 23 points is a feat. And now, the dagger in my heart....the injury to quarterback Trent Green. Reports said that at the hospital he was alert and had control of all of his extremities, but could not remember what happened to injure him. Hopefully he will be ok, and be back in the lineup in a few weeks. He has not missed a start in 5 years with the Chiefs. As for fantasy league, well touchdowns are everything in my league, and I didn't score enough to get anywhere. Oh, well, there's always next week!
  24. Welcome to KF, jellybean! Glad to have you.
