  1. Cool. Did you know that Jean Jaques Machado's left hand never fully developed? And he is one of the best grapplers in the world.
  2. Best of luck to you! Best tip I can give is to continue the hard work. It will pay off.
  3. Glad you had a good time. That is what it is all about, having fun.
  4. I would say go for it. I have been wanting to learn a ground based style for a while. It will not hurt you, it can only help, if it is a good club.
  5. That's too bad.
  6. Yes, running, very fast, until you fall down!
  7. Yes, but not all cuts come vertical or horizontal. If they did, sword fighting would be a lot easier. Many cuts are angled, in order to get to vital targets, like the neck, underarm, upwards through the kidneys or body in general. Easier to void or block these with a good cross.
  8. Oh, I see. Hopefully you can get things squared away there.
  9. Size 10...that is big. How tall are you?
  10. My instructor has had a few scopes. He always comes back, and is still going strong. Just give your body the time it requires, and don't push it. Best of luck to you!
  11. That's cool! I may steal it!
  12. Wow, that is something I have not heard before!!!
  13. Instead of trying to throw, try to sweep him instead. Or, you could turn into him with your opposite shoulder, wrapping his straight arm around your body, and then hip throwing him. I don't have much experience with throws, but thinking in my head, it may work.
  14. Very interesting, ered101. Welcome to KarateForums!
  15. I like to use both snapping and thrusting techniques in TKD. The main drawback of snapping techniques is the lack of follow through. I also feel that techniques with follow through can be just as fast as snapping techniques; the difference is in the level of penetration.
  16. I feel that elbows_and_knees makes a good point. Everything has its drawbacks. Some things are higher percentage than others, but they still have even little drawbacks. Punching, kicking, grappling, jumping, spinning, each has advantages and disadvantages.
  17. Or, some people can't do it, or just don't like it. I like the Caporiea stuff, but I can't do it, so its usefulness to me pales in comparison to what I know that I can do. I would still like to learn how, though.
  18. It just depends on how much they want to grit their teeth through the pain just to hurt somebody else. Sometimes the willpower can get them through the pain. I know this probably isn't likely, but it could happen.
  19. I thought that was right, but couldn't remember for sure.
  20. I think my style would call it "showing off."then your style may have a more limited view of defense than chinese styles. in longfist styles, one use of the butterfly kick was to jump over low sweeping weapon attacks. it may have also been used to evade a dragon tail sweep. (iron broom in some styles) It actually had a purpose beyond merely "showing off" This is the same theory behind some of the arieal and upside down moves in Caporiea.
  21. His credentials look good, but he doesn't list the organizations he got them through. Not a big deal, but he just shows a rank. I also find it hard to believe he teaches Olympic TKD, but is not sport oriented. But, I could be wrong. Hope it goes well for you.
  22. Different guy. This guy was a world hw champion kickboxer. Wasn't the boxer's name spelled Louis?
  23. Good luck to you! I really hope you make it.
  24. Good luck at testing! Just watch your distance in the controlled sparring. Throw your techniques with good speed, and pull them short if you have to.
  25. Another very nice article, Clint. You have a knack for writing, and I enjoy your articles very much. Well done, and very informative.
