  1. That doesn't sound good at all.
  2. I am glad to hear that you had a good time, Carolyn! Congrats on your place! As for the scoring guidelines, it sounds different than what I am used to, so I can't offer much assistance. Sorry!
  3. The training I have received has not built any bad habits, that I can pick out. When we spar, we block, counter, and use footwork for offense and defense. It has helped with my timing and combination building. I have also figured out what some of my strengths and weaknesses are. I have recently found a partner that I can do some more self-defense related activities with, and I am enjoying getting back into it. If there was a judo club or a BJJ school around here, I would be into it in a heartbeat.
  4. I wondered about some of the historic research they did for the show.
  5. I think the fights are fun to watch as it is now. I also believe that you won't really see an "introduction" of any specific art into the UFC anymore. What will you see more and more of is the popularity of the MMA "gyms" that are sponsoring most of the current fighters. This sport uses the three main aspects of fighting: stand-up, clinch, and grappling. The reason that the fights may look "predictable" is because in fighting these are the things that are going to happen; striking, takedowns, and wrestling/grappling. There is nothing too fancy about it, really. Getting fancy gets you beat. Fighting is what it is, because of the very nature of it. Nobody is going to spend their time on something that is fancy and complex, with a higher degree of failure in the process.
  6. Well, pooh again! 20-9, and I don't know what the deal is. They can hold the best offense in the league under 21 points, but only score 9. I think serious issues are at hand. The offensive line didn't perform well, and the defense did well, but gave up too many big plays. Time to build for next year.
  7. Just don't start bowing to him before you go to the bathroom!
  8. You make a very good point here.
  9. It varies from style to style. Some styles don't even have ranks. Kung fu uses sashes. Thai boxing and boxing don't have rankings. That said, you typically start at white, then move onto a green, then perhaps blue, towards brown, and then a red or black belt. My system of TKD goes white, orange, green, blue, brown, and black. Each color (except white) has a lo and a hi grade, until brown, which has a lo, mid, and hi grade. Then, you get recommended black, then full black.
  10. I can attest to this. If I had a nickel for everyone that ever told me that "they want to get into it," or "I am coming back to it," then I would never have to teach a class to make a profit.
  11. He is a singer who rights parodies of top artists' songs. They are quite funny.
  12. Welcome, stormbringer! So cool that you are even familiar with where I live. But how did you end up in Belgium?
  13. Nope, doesn't ring a bell.
  14. I was skeptical about Eragon as well, but I did enjoy the books. I think that if Eragon wasn't so close in similarity to the name Aragorn, people wouldn't quite think of it as much.
  15. I am as well, Kirsty. I have read the Lord of the Rings series, have read the first two books of The Iheritance Trilogy (Eragon, Eldest), and have also read the first 4 books of the Song of Ice and Fire. They are all fantasy based reads.
  16. Kind of a side note, an my wife's laptop, I have a screen-saver with words floating around saying "I love my wife!" You have two wives???? With respect, Sohan
  17. I don't hear much of his newer stuff, but I know of some of his older stuff. "I lost on Jeapordy," and "Oreo" come to mind. They are great for a laugh. Country music has a version of him, called Cletus T. Judd. He has some funny stuff as well, if you listen to country music.
  18. Good luck to you! What did you decide to go with?
  19. Well, look at it this way. You were less than 100%, and still graded slightly over average on the test. I think that is something to feel good about! Now, you have a lot of time to recover your knee fully, and get geared up for the next test. Congratulations!
  20. Thanks for the tips. They are all helpful. We have a pull-up resistance machine at the gym, but I don't get much out of it. I am going to start raising the weight, and doing fewer reps, to build the strength.
  21. It most likely has a "style" name. It should be visible somewhere in the school.
  22. Ain't that the truth i spent my childhood in plainville and stockton so i know you don't have a whole lot of choice in that area. You grew up in Kansas? That's kind of cool. I was born in Norton, went to preschool, kindergarten, and 1st grade in Plainville, and then moved to Colby, where I graduated high school. Then came to Hays to go to college.
  23. I say go ahead. You say it inspires you now, but the source of your inspiration may change later on. Or, you may not even need any at all.
  24. A really basic makiwara board would be a 2x4 or maybe a little bit bigger board wrapped in rope. Then you could build a platform for it, or put it in the ground.
