Fill me in Please...ashida kim

Why doesn't he just enter a UFC?? Because he would have to strip out his super secret ancient death blows, and they don't allow energy balls or invisibility. Without that... well.. he's nothing! You are probaly right! -
That's kind of cool, seeing he is still around after all these years, huh?

Welcome to the Forums!

Do them outside. That will help.

I do some on my own, but my organization doesn't train applications. Since we train jujutsu it helps figure out some of the applications. What form are you working right now? My organization doesn't work them either, so I have to do my own as well. I haven't got to do any lately. I have a book that has some in it, though.

That's not that bad. Could be 40 and looking 50 or 60. I'm just trying to look on the bright side if age. Best of luck to you/ We have some people in here that you would be surprised of how old they are, compared to looking at them. There are some that are 50, and look 65 or 70. You can tell that they have lived rough.

Master rank in both ITF and WTF
bushido_man96 replied to mcmillintkd's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I have books by Master Hee Il Cho. He has written books on the ITF hyungs, and the WTF hyungs, up through the black belt ranks. He is a 2nd, if not 1st generation black belt of General Chois. He may hold master rank in both, but it is just a guess. -
I am a big guy; heavy mostly, not tall. I can still stay with the smaller guys as well. I also have gotten comments about how quick I am for my size. Although I could get faster, I can move so-so. Also, e&k makes a good point about the street fight being an anaerobic event. You won't see many street fights like the one in Rocky V.

Glad to hear that you are improving. Now, you may notice that your stretching may plateau after a time. That is ok, just keep working through it. When you get to that point, it may be time to adjust your stretching routine.

This is one of the problems with no-contact sparring. If it isn't going to make contact, then why block it? Aside from that, you just have to watch what is thrown, and what you need to block. It takes time.
-
Well, it sounds like the other main gripe is the "instructor's belt." Aside from that, training to make contact with a person and with a bag are two different things. Your distance will be off, and the idea of blocking and countering will not be fully honed when you don't have to worry about getting hit. It is still better. Even when boxers spar, they aren't out to knock out the training partner. Although they aren't fighting at quite full speed, they are still recognizing contact, and dealing with it. Therefore, since they do know how to make contact, and deal with it, they are better adapted to it when they step into the ring. You are learning to hit an inanimate object, that will not counter, move, or try to hit you as you hit it. Bag training is important, don't get me wrong. It builds speed, power, stamina, etc. However, it is not a substitute for sparring with a partner.

hence 26 katas.... fights are usually short and end before they really begin, there is hardly a chance for u not to be able to react... nobody said kata was the soul reason, and the bunkai for certain katas can be different even if its the same move so scenario changes... Take a karateka who trains in only kata for two years, and a judoka who trains without kata, but in randori, for two years, and let them square off on the mat, or in a fight, etc. What you will learn quickly is that the judoka, who has has more full-speed practice against the resisting opponent will have the upper hand in the match.

Thanks. I'm enjoying starting off as a white belt again. It's taken years off me. That is good to hear!

That was worth a chuckle!

Oh, yeah, can't wait for that, either!

Thanks for the info, Patrick. I really would like to get into some investing; I just need to budget for it.

Thanks for the replies. She is much better today, and she went to take her tests and then went to work. The world is righting itself!

I would normally mention something about it, just to make sure. Here is a related story: I went to the Home Depot with my family, as my dad was laying down some serious cash to buy big time woodworking tools to build some cabinets for his shop. To make a long story short, we got out to the vehicle with the merchandise, and my dad looked at the reciept, thinking something sounded funny. It turned out that they didn't charge him for an $800 item! So, he went back in, and let them know, and got it all taken care of. He was kind of kicking himself, but he knew he had to do the right thing.

https://www.barnesandnoble.com I buy lots of books on MA, and some fiction books, off of this site. I also like this site: https://www.chivialrybookshelf.com A great source for books on medieval combat.
