  1. Exactly. Thanks alot for the comments. And no 'yes sir, no sir' to worry about!
  2. Have fun in there! I wish I could find something like that in my area.
  3. This is similar to what I experience as well.
  4. Our black belts have to do all of the lower rank forms when they test for 1st dan. It is sometimes tougher on the kids, because they don't spend as much time practicing low rank material. But, they eventually get it.
  5. Fight in rounds. You can do 2 minute rounds, with 30 seconds of rest in between. Or, you could do 1 minute rounds punching, then do one of only kicking. Mix it up, and enjoy yourself! You can also pick out a single technique to practice over and over again on the bag, to build power with it. Single technique practice on the bag can reap rewards as well.
  6. I think you make a good point here, however, adrenaline is hardly ever replicated in a class setting.
  7. I think that most BJJ gyms are pretty injury-free. As long as you tap when it starts to hurt, you will be ok.
  8. That's a great post.
  9. I don't think that weapons training in a traditional sense is all that imperitave. Here in Kansas, we now have a conceal and carry law. I would consider that pertinent weapons training, as well as training in how to use mace, a zapper, etc. Learning more how to defend against a knife, gun, or stick, IF you absolutely have to, can be pertinent as well.
  10. The same is true when you are wearing regular street clothes as well. I know that I can't do near as many techniques when I am wearing my work gear. All the gear that hangs on the belt really restricts what you can do.
  11. This is true, but you will find this in about every aspect of life as well. Whether it is at a martial arts studio, or going out to eat, you will always find poor service or unprofessionalism somewhere.
  12. This looks like a stun to the brachial plexus to me. There isn't much secret about this, really. No, but it's effective, unlike chi-balls!Oh, yes, it is effective. I have been whacked there before by an instructor, and darn near went night-night! However, setting it up can be an issue. There is no doubting its effectiveness; its getting to it that is harder than it seems.
  13. Good information, thank you. I do know that his wife is Korean, and I think he has a home there.

  15. There was a thread floating around on this earlier. I didn't care for it either. Here is the thread: http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=27514&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=
  16. Theodore Roosevelt (former President of the U.S.)--judo Herschel Walker (retired NFL player)--TKD; at least 5th dan Willie McGinnest (linbacker for Cleveland Brown)--Black belt in karate, can't remember which style I was under the impression that Snipes had done TKD. I can't remember, but I thought I saw it somewhere...maybe on Wiki?
  17. I was disappointed. I mean, this guy was my pastor, for crying out loud! But, it taught me that you can never assume anything about anyone, regardless of what their station in life is.
  18. Currently, the wife and I are working on repainting and re-designing our daughter's bedroom. Soon after, we will be re-painting the living room. Fun-fun, good times!! How about everyone else? Got any home projects going on?
  19. If I was going to play one, I would love to play the piano.
  20. Welcome to the Forums!
  21. Welcome to the Forums!
  22. I drive. I have flown once before, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I prefer to drive. Fast, if at all possible!
  23. I don't usually make New Year's resolutions. I just go about my normal business, doing what I can, when I can.
  24. I use an alarm. When I lived on my own, I had to set the clock across the room, so that I had to actually get out of bed to turn it off, so I wouldn't roll back over and fall asleep. Usually, I get up at around 3:30 pm, because I don't get home from work until around 7:30 am.
  25. You can't do that, yet? Well, I can do it with my right pinkey, but not my left one. You know there was a movie where Sean Connery beat a man with his thumb. I mean if it's in a movie it has to be true, right?? No, wait, maybe you are talking about The Presidio. It also had Mark Harmon and Meg Ryan in it. I like that movie as well!
