Wing Chun in Action!
bushido_man96 replied to Hart's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Hmmm, hard to say. -
I thought that I would start a thread where we could record what we did as far as training goes each day that we train. You can share what you did in class, feelings about exercises or philosophies of the class, and things like that. You can also talk about any kind of other physical training that you did, like in the weight room, or cardio work. I thought that this would allow us to bounce ideas off each other, or just keep a running log of training. Since every one has different ideas and methods of training, it would be a great way for us all to learn from each other as well. 1-18-07: Today, I did a mini workout at home. I did a few sets of push-ups (trying to work up to 100!), and did some sets of slow side kicks. I had my son at the house, and he managed to crawl on my back as I was doing push-ups! That adds some resistance, for sure!

If the Patriots win the AFC Championship game, then I am going with them in the Super Bowl. They are just unbelievable.

Chaotic gradings..should I wait?
bushido_man96 replied to Sibylla's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
If you feel that you are ready to test, and others feel the same way, then you could go ahead and test. Use these experiences so that when you get to do it your way, you will know what you do want to do, and what you don't want to do. -
I was wondering if anyone has seen this yet. I have only seen commercials, but the action looks great. I am hoping to check it out soon.

childrens class problem
bushido_man96 replied to greenbelt_girl15's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I think that it is hard to teach anything in a 20 minute class, so I would probably try to drag it out to about an hour. At least 45 minutes for the kids. As long as you keep their attention, then you are doing great, and I say run it as long as you can. -
Increasing training, increasing illness?

Let us know what the doc tells you. I can't imagine trying to do something healthy would make you sick, though. -

Having trouble getting back into Karate, need advice
bushido_man96 replied to B16GS's topic in Karate
First of all, welcome to KarateForums! It sounds like you are lacking some motivation, as opposed to losing the love, so to speak. If you really want to do it, then you should make yourself do it. Try to start out easy, like a few nights a week, and then work yourself back into the groove. I think you will be glad that you did. -
I think that depends on what your apptitude for it is. Every one likes different things, and takes to different things differently. I like TKD, and picked it up fairly well, I think. However, I have always had trouble with joint manipulative styles like Hapkido. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy Hapkido, it is just tougher for me to pick up. Now, I have a brother who has done TKD with me, and has also done some joint manipulation stuff. TKD he was ok with, but he took to the Hapkido stuff like a duck to water. In the end, it just depends on the purpose.

Testing Sparring
bushido_man96 replied to bushido_man96's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
This is an interesting statement. How exactly did you go about it? Was about combinations and countering, or otherwise? I am interested; very cool. -
Thanks for the info...I'll check them out.

Cool. I have that book, but has been some time since I read it. I like to read, but I don't retain information very well!

That is kind of cool.....that is new to me. Thanks for sharing that, cross!

A stupid mistake in kumite. One of the partners was supposed attack with a mae-geri and the other then block and counter strike. Well, we both attacked at the same time and this was the result. The "funny" thing was that I didn't notice anything seriously wrong. Yes it hurt, but I didn't care. Only when I tried to make a step forward it started to feel weird... Man, that sounds like a crazy mix up. I'll bet it felt wierd trying to walk! -
A good striking art form

You should go down to the dojo, ask to watch a class, and then afterwards, you should ask each of these questions to the instructor. He should give you straight-up answers. Each school is different, and so is each instructor. We can tell you what we think the school would be like, based on our knowledge of other kempo schools, however, this school could be different. Go check it out, and let us know what he says. Best of luck to you! -
You are kind of on the right track, here. I was told (but am not sure of the reliability) that the reason is because in the days when swords were worn, they were always worn on the right side, whether you were left handed or not. Therefore, if the sword, dagger, etc., was worn inside or outside the clothing, it would be on the right side, and thus easier to draw. Go with it, and see what you get.
