Sonic was fun. Speed to burn, man! -
Pretty cool.

Pretty cool, I thought. I had a cat once that decided to hide in the engine compartment of my truck. I thought I had killed the pour thing, but it made it through!

I don't follow comic books much, and this was the first I had ever heard of Hush. Looks cool, though, and Hugh Jackman would do a good job.

I thought Hush or Bane would be cool to see.

Pretty cool. It is amazing any more how much you can spend on a wedding cake, and what they look like. It almost makes you feel guilty for eating one!

See Bushi, I knew exactly what he meant (I refer of course to the earlier KF thread on whether it was better to use Japanese or English in Karate classes.) Yes, I figured you would know. Besides, I am a TKD guy. Korean here, not Japanese....

Non-resistance in MA's

Well, perhaps. I would just count on that, though. A coward will fight hard if he is backed into a corner, and thinks he may be killed. One thing that we might notice in a fight is that when the adrenaline dumps, you can get tired quick. Even someone who is in great physical condition, and doesn't tire from 3 rounds of fighting, will most likely be breathing hard after defending himself when being jumped from behind. -
Does Martial Arts really help?

I figured Fedor would take Sylvia apart. I have just never been that impressed with Sylvia. Not that he couldn't whip my butt...I have no doubts there! I just don't think he is all that great in the upper echelons of MMA. -
Gastroscopy/heartburn...how to cope with it

I wish I could get my wife to stop worrying so much. Can't seem to work that trait out of people, though. -

The Martial Artists' Training Log

7-21-08 Chest/triceps Bench press: 165x10, 205x6, 215x4 Dips: 3x6 Legs Leg extensions: 85x20, 20, 20 Leg curls: 115x20, 20, 100x20 Calf raises: 126x10, 10, 10 Abs Decline crunches: 3x20 Combat Hapkido: 10:15 - 11:00. Today was fun, because one of the TKD black belts has been showing interest in the Combat Hapkido, and I got to start from the beginning with him, and kind of work with some of the curriculum that I have been coming up with for the ranks. It was also good review for me. We started with the breakaways, and then moved into the same side wrist grab defenses. After getting them down, I really slowed him down, and made him break everything down, piece by piece. I had him work on distractions with a kick first, and then with a hand technique. After getting taken down a lot, we slowed down again and focused on the distraction/diminish technique, and then getting the grab down, building the muscle memory up. We then moved on to some simple trapping drills, and then we went into mitt training. It was pretty good training, and it gave me an idea of what I could do if the instructor lets us start the class up again. -
Hello, and welcome to the Forums! Regarding the GKR, I have heard some negative things about this organization. With that said, I think that you should go check out the dojo for yourself, and see what you think. In regards to BJJ or Judo, I don't think there would be as much risk to your golfing as you think there is here. In Judo, you would learn how to fall, and in BJJ, as long as you check your ego at the door, and try not to tough your way through everything, you should stay relatively injury free. In order to gain flexibility, some of the more stand-up and kicking emphasized styles may be up your alley for leg flexibility. BJJ and Judo would probably be better for gaining trunk flexibility and arm range of motion. Barring this info, take a look around at what you have available, and visit some schools and ask questions. I am sure that you will find something that you like.

Taekwondo's Shotokan connection.
bushido_man96 replied to bushido_man96's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Yes, there are parts of the Shotokan and Chang 'On forms that do mirror each other. I have picked up some interesting tidbits from a 3-part article called TKD: An Historical Appraisal. Apparently, the Chung Do Kwan dojang opnened in Seoul in 1944. I get the impression that this was the frist Kwan to open in Korea. Five more Kwans opened between '44 and '46. Then, in the '50s, Choi's attempts to standardize the Kwans under one banner began. There was resistance to this by some (Hwang Kee comes to mind), but by '59, kwa-jang-nims were forced to comply or be driven from their schools and even Korea. -
Welcome to the Forums. You should look into these incidences of injuries that you discussed. Do these things happen weekly at these schools? Have you actually had much classroom experiences with these instructors? These are things that I believe you should look into. Go to the classes, and try to partake in some of them. This will give you a feel for what to expect.

I think in the end, you are not trying to compare style vs. style. You are addressing survival. As you and tallgeese mention, the goal of survival is going to be to get away from the threat. And then, it depends on what the goals of your particular combat are. If you are a civlian, then you want to get away. If you are a soldier, it may be to incapacitate and detain, or kill. Here, the option to turn and run are gone. So, your goals can change things a bit.

Yeah, buddy! Loved Contra. But, NES was 8 bit, if I remember right. Genesis and SNES were 12 or 24, can't remember exactly. -

It sounds like you are speaking of relaxing more during a fight/match, right? I think it does have its advantages; although I don't have much fight experience, I think that not being tensed up can help to clear you mind.
