I agree. It just isn't always feasible to have an instructor at one's disposal, especially as rank and experience get higher and higher.

Any C.S. Kim Students Here?

No, I have not. Where can I track one down at? Are they readily available, or out of print? -
Hey, Killer. For the most part, I just listed teaching guidelines that I have used or been taught over time. For the most part, though, I list the importance of being able to transition out of the stance easily and comfortably as being of prior importance.

I have seen some of the joint manipulation techniques that work well with one hand or two holding on. After a while, you start to see them run together. My DT partner and I use the idea that the wrist grab is a starting point for learning the technique. Once you learn it, you move on to other applications of it. The key is, to move on.

This can be tough at times. Perhaps the instructor can't train full-time with his own instructor. For example, my instructor's instructor lives 4 hours away. Hard to train under him on a regular basis. But, he still does go to his instructor's classes at times. And sometimes, the instructor's death can obviously put an end to this. So then, something else has to be done.

What is "Traditional?"

I could start my own style tomorrow, and then teach it to someone else. That person could then trace his "roots." So that should work, right? -

There was a girl in a TKD college class that I taught years ago, who decided to go to a few parties. Well, at said parties, she would drink said "good stuff," and become able to do the splits! However, she always regretted doing that stunt afterwards, when she was sober. -

I really like his attitude about putting on a good fight for the fans and the show. It shows that they aren't all that self-serving. -

The Martial Artists' Training Log
bushido_man96 replied to bushido_man96's topic in Health and Fitness
Thanks. Are these good if you can't get a regular rep in yet? What else is good for developing those pull-up muscles, specifically? -
If your main focus is cardio, I'd try to give it 30 to 40 minutes per session. Then, do some ab work. There are so many ways of training out there that you can probably find one that fits your schedule. Its just a matter of sifting through it all.

I actually just competed in a tourny this fall and tied another competitor they do drop the high and low scores and if you tied you may do the same form or choose another one and then after we were done we had to turn around and the judges choose who one. When we did tiebreakers, the two would go at the same time again, but we would have to stick with our first form. Then, instead of a score, the judges just pointed in the direction of the winner. I don't mind this method at all.

Any C.S. Kim Students Here?
bushido_man96 replied to tsdprime93's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Not a TSD guy myself, but I do have his book, and I really think it is a great text. I would like to have a chance to look into a TSD school sometime, but there are none in my area. Anywho, if you haven't checked out his book, you should do so. Its a touch pricey, but still well put together. -
As you mention this, I had noticed that there seemed to be several masters that had died from some kind of cancer; Bong Soo Hon, Gen. Choi (I think), and H.U. Lee of the ATA. It just seems odd that people who spend their lives in healthy activities end up dying this way. I think you just chalk it up to coincidence.

Yip Man movie

This would be interesting to see. The only things I have ever heard about Man were the few remarks I had read about him from Bruce Lee and a few others spots here and there. I'd be interested to learn more. -

I'm 31. Still pretty new to that division, I guess. -
Although I can't argue that this isn't a good point to take into consideration, I don't think it is something that is feasable for everyone to achieve. Not for 10 years, anyway. I did some competing, and I'm willing to admit that I wasn't ever that great at it. But I gave it a go, but not for 10 years. However, I still feel that I have the ability to pass on some important aspects of training for sparring, even if it is for point TKD sparring.

If you can compare your skill level with the newcomers to the class, and can notice a significant difference, and you can compare your skill levels to those of the instructor, and notice your improvement, then I think that is a step in the right direction, if that makes sense. Noticeable improvement in skill level and physical abilities, along with concepts of how to apply things.
