  1. Is it the muscles that are getting tired? It could be that the extra reps are just pushing you past your limit, which is good, because it will make you stronger in the long run. That would be my guess. I would say to just try to push through it, if it is just muscle pain, but try not to sacrifice your technique for an extra rep. If the pain is other than muscle, then you might want to get it checked out.
  2. I can see some things that I would work with them on, or rather, that should have been worked on more before they arrived at that rank.
  3. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
  4. If the foot is broken, doesn't that hurt a chance at escape, as well?
  5. I'm surprised that our classes don't have some more variety. I'm surprised that we don't do that much self-defense applications.
  6. I've been thinking of the differences between a throw, a sweep, and a takedown, and a comparative study would be a great idea, I think.
  7. I'm not sure the the foot is more resilient than the shin. I think that the shin is a firmer structure, and a better natural weapon than the foot, but that's just me. Welcome to the Forums, Dark Planet.
  8. I like to think of it as an investment.
  9. Very nice. Very talented youngsters there.
  10. 9-5-09 Warm-up: 5 min. on elliptical Bench press: 165x10, 175x8, 185x6, 195x4, 215x2 Squats: 5 sets, 1 minute each set. These were done between the bench sets. Assisted pull-ups: 10 max Bike: 3 minutes Dumbell military press: 12.5 lbs for 1 minute Lunges: 30 seconds each leg Straight bar curls: 80x10 Triceps push-down: 120x10 Heel raises: 1 minute Dead lift: 315x5...this was the most I had ever done...and it was tough. Power clean: 135x5 The sad thing about this was that I was supposed to repeat everything above one more time... 9-6-09 Jog 3/4 mile, 15 minutes leg stretch. Then rode bike for 20 minutes.
  11. Well, the rosters should all be cut to 53 by now. Any moves your team made that you don't like?
  12. Awesome!!!! Now, where do I get a 300 ounces per hour syrup dispenser???
  13. That's pretty cool. Its nice that when you make sacrifices to get something to go, and you can then get it back, makes it all worth while.
  14. Thanks for the kind words, Bob. The first games get underway tonight!
  15. The origin of the word is interesting, Joe; I'd never been aware of it before. That is a very nice idea. 6 years to develop...wow. What a step.
  16. That is not something I would have conceived existed. But, everyone's got an idea.
  17. Wow, very nice pics.
  18. Well said, Bob. I see where you are coming from.
  19. Nice, very nice. Thanks for sharing that Joe! This is very nice, but I think it is important to note that it all comes from training.
  20. Those are interesting points, JusticeZero. But I would argue that it sounds more like self-preservation, which is the end result of self-defense. Flight is one way to achieve it, and fight is the other.
  21. Very nice, spending time on other things like theory. I'm sure it was enjoyable for students, as well.
  22. I like Tony's breakdown of the two. I would tend to agree that a thrust is a classification of strike, but when I evaluate the names of some of the techniques that I do, I wonder... For example, back fist strike, knife hand strike, ridge hand strike. And on the other hand, spear hand thrust, front and side thrust kicks, etc. It would appear that most strikes tend to travel in an arc, and most thursts travel in a straight line. But, then we have exceptions, like the palm heel strike...
  23. In the schools that I have trained in, this hasn't been tolerated, and if the behavior is seen, it is dealt with. I think it is important to have the talk first. If it doesn't sink in, then like Tony mentioned, sometimes they get dealt with on the floor. Sparring rules may get chucked out the window, and before you know it, you can have several students who are out of control. So, I think it best to try to talk it over with the one responsible, and find out what it is that they see on their end.
  24. I'm glad that you enjoyed them both, Joe. I like to reference that sight quite a bit, because the studies are all done by groups or individuals who have trained with the weapons, and have the experience to make logical, well-informed statements on the subject.
  25. Another irony to consider is that the likelyhood that you will be attacked by a skilled knife fighter, or a highly skilled gunman, aren't all that high, either.
