  1. What are they like? Are they more fantasy based, or historical fiction, or a modern era storyline more like a typical novel? I'd be interested in checking them out. Is the author an actual Martial Artist?
  2. I enjoyed the story, and look forward to further seasons.
  3. I think they are going to exhaust their ability to dip into previous story plots soon. I wonder if they would just plan to advance the current rivalries that they have?
  4. Me too. Can't wait to see where they take the story, and who they bring along.
  5. 6/10/2022 Strength Training Cleans: 135x5, 155x3, 155x3, 155x3. Deadlifts: 235x3, 300x1, 335x5, 335x5. Bench Press: 45x5x2, 115x5, 155x5, 205x5, 232.5x3, 232.5x3. Lying Triceps Extensions: 72.5x10, 72.5x10, 72.5x10. 6/13/2022 Strength Training Squats: 45x5x2, 185x5, 260x3, 330x1, 360x3, 360x3, 360x3. Press: 45x5x2, 85x5, 120x3, 150x2, 175x3, 175x4. Dropped squats to 3x3, seeing how that runs for a while. 360 still felt heavy. That shoulder pain is still hanging on, and I don't know what I've done to it. It's affecting my ability to press and bench, though. Hoping some rest helps.
  6. It's great to see you getting those little extra bits to work on prior to your grading. Keep it up!
  7. Our colored belt candidates do their required form and one-steps; anyone above orange belt then spars at least one, if not two matches. Brown belts and up are required more forms, more sparring against higher ranks, and then board breaking. High brown belts have to perform all one-steps at their testing, and recommended black belts have to perform all forms and all one-steps, plus sparring and board breaks. We don't have a set time on the testing. If it's a small one, it can take an hour. Larger testings just take more time to get the students through, and if we have a few higher ranks testing, that takes longer.
  8. 6/9/2022 Strength Training Squats: 45x5x2, 195x5, 265x3, 340x1, 380x2, 340x5, 340x5. Press: 45x5x2, 95x5, 135x5, 165x1, 183x1, 183x1, 184x1, 185x1, 186x1, 186x1, 187x1, 188x1, 189x1, 189x1. Failed on the third rep of top squat set. Weight got forward, and I couldn't get it back.
  9. I've felt the same way about my TKD training, too. I am unfortunately limited to the school owners' goals and ideas, except for my personal training.
  10. It's not my style of Karate, though, because there are several key characteristics in their style that aren't as prominent as in conventional Shotokan. They have a YouTube channel, for example, where one of their videos shows them teaching their version of Oi tzuki. Chinzo's backfoot is entirely lifted during the performance, which was a big no-no for me when I was training all the time. Keep the back foot firmly and sink your weight into the punch, we were taught. A YouTube viewer inquired about it, and their channel responded "Attacking stance is poor; back heel is up" the Machida channel says, "heel down and plant to the ground does not applicable in real life."" I think most "traditional" Karate stylists would have an issue with doing it that way because of the aesthetics of it. It's been drilled and drilled into us over the years that in a front stance, the back heels stays down on the ground. In actuality, I believe the heel off the ground allows you to drive more power forward into the target. Yet we all know from forms competitions that if the back heel pops up, you're gonna get dinged on your points for it, regardless of how practical an application it may be.
  11. 6/6/2022 Strength Training Squats: 45x5x2, 185x5, 260x3, 330x1, 377.5x5, 330x5, 330x5. Press: 45x5x2, 85x5, 120x3, 150x2, 173.5x5, 173.5x5, 173.5x5, 173.5x5, 173.5x5. Lat Pull-downs: 162.5x10, 162.5x10, 162.5x10. The top squat set was something else. I'm not sure how much I have left in me! It was nice to hit all 5 sets on press without any hiccups. 6/7/2022 Strength Training Deadlifts: 135x5, 195x5, 275x3, 355x1, 395x5. Pin Press: 45x5x2, 75x5, 105x3, 135x1, 150x3, 150x3, 150x3, 150x3, 150x3. Lying Triceps Extensions: 70x10, 70x10, 70x10. I wasn't sure rep 5 of the deadlift was going to lock out at the top, but I got it there. The next one is going to be a doozy! I had some major soreness in my shoulders, and pin press made that even more sore!
  12. Good thing there's a Senior Division!! I'm not so sure there is a senior MMA division. There isn't a senior or masters UFC division, that's for sure.
  13. Welcome to KF! Hopefully you find some training in your area soon!
  14. 5/31/2022 Strength Training Deadlifts: 135x5, 190x5, 265x3, 340x1, 390x5. Pin Press: 45x5x2, 95x5, 115x3, 147.5x3, 147.5x3, 147.5x3, 147.5x3, 147.5x3. Lying Triceps Extensions: 65x10, 65x10, 65x10. Deadlift....holy crap, that was hard! 400 lbs is coming! 6/2/2022 Strength Training Squats: 45x5x2, 185x5, 260x3, 330x1, 375x5, 330x5, 330x5. Press: 45x5x2, 95x5, 135x3, 165x1, 182x1, 182x1, 183x1, 184x1, 184x1, 185x1, 186x1, 187x1, 187x1, 188x1. Lat Pull-downs: 160x10, 160x10, 160x10. 6/3/2022 Strength Training Cleans: 135x3, 135x3, 155x3. Deadlifts: 165x5, 235x3, 300x1, 335x5, 335x5. Bench Press: 45x5x2, 115x5, 155x5, 205x5, 230x3, 230x3. Lying Triceps Extensions: 67.5x10, 67.5x10, 67.5x10. Felt good to do a few cleans again. Added weight to bench, and kept the volume to two triples. Will see how that goes for a while.
  15. Sorry to hear that, Bob. I wonder why the sub wasn't punctual?
  16. 42 is pretty old to be competing professionally. It's probably not a reflection on his style, but more so a reflection of dealing with younger competition.
  17. 4th degree black in Taekwondo. I was also awarded a black belt and a certificate by a good friend of mine who put together a self-defense system that is heavy on LEO defensive tactics and women's self-defense. I think I earned a yellow belt in Aikido, and worked up to brown belt rank in Combat Hapkido, both years ago. I've also earned certifications in GRACIE and Police Krav Maga courses, both LEO-focused DT courses.
  18. It's always refreshing to see some new material. Do you like the applications and how they work? That Saturday sounded like a really fun day of training!
  19. 5/30/2022 Strength Training Squats: 45x5x2, 185x5, 260x3, 330x1, 372.5x5, 330x5, 330x5. Press: 45x5x2, 85x5, 120x1, 150x1, 172.5x5, 172.5x5, 172.5x5, 172.5x5, 172.5x4, 172.5x3. Failed on to get 5 on the last set of press. Rested briefly, got back under it, and did a set of 3. The squat is starting to get really, really hard. The squat anxiety is real.
  20. 5/24/2022 Strength Training Deadlifts: 135x5, 190x5, 265x3, 340x1, 385x5. Pin Press: 45x5x2, 95x5, 115x3, 145x3, 145x3, 145x3, 145x3, 145x3. Lying Triceps Extensions: 60x10, 60x10, 60x10. Stretch: hams, quads, glutes. Another PR on deadlift. This time, the set seemed to go pretty good. Practice on the pin press is making it better. Hopefully, in a few more weeks, I've got the weight up to where the stress is actually contributing to progress. 5/26/2022 Strength Training Squats: 45x5x2, 185x5, 260x3, 330x1, 370x5, 330x5, 330x5. Press: 45x5x2, 95x5, 135x3, 165x1, 181x1, 181x1, 182x1, 183x1, 183x1, 184x1, 185x1, 186x1, 186x1, 186x1. Lat Pull-downs: 157.5x10, 157.5x10, 157.5x10. I pushed the heavy press day up to 10 singles; 186 was my last PR before I had to change things up. 5/27/2022 Strength Training Deadlifts: 135x5, 185x5, 225x3, 275x1, 325x5, 325x5. Bench Press: 45x5x2, 115x5, 155x5, 205x5, 225x5. Lying Triceps Extensions: 62.5x10, 62.5x10, 62.5x10. Pushed all the warmup sets on bench to 5 reps each. Since weight seems to be the limiting factor, tinkering with the volume a little bit.
  21. Our school and organization doesn't require it, and we don't require masks while training, either. If the school did require masks and vaccines, I'd be done training there. I'd find somewhere else to train, or train on my own.
  22. Cool to see you considering a log, DarthPenguin. I want you to know, however, that it is not "my log." It's a thread I started for anyone and everyone to share their training. Somewhere along the way, others dropped off. So, if you feel so inclined, please feel free to post your training log along with mine!
  23. I agree with the bold, very much. It seems to me over the course of time, especially in the practice of the more "traditional" styles, stance work is too involved in holding static positions, and worry about the "aesthetics" of the movements. Stepping into a stance ends up being seen as a "stopping point," when it's more likely a point of power transition or movement into a recovery position.
