  1. Hurts's performance was outstanding. I don't know that I'd say he was the better quarterback; his stats were off the charts. But with the lesser amount of time that the Chiefs had possession, Mahomes made the most out of that time. Hurts is a stud. He's going to get a nice contract out of this deal, and the way he's improved over the past few years has been awesome to watch.
  2. I think Jimmy-G is gone. Purdy is supposedly laid up until late into next season, so it's going to give Trey Lance the chance to shine. Once Purdy is healthy, they will have to make some decisions. If their season is in the tank, then I could see them letting Purdy start, to see if he still has it, and then use the first half of the season to evaluate Lance, then decide who to shop. If they are winning with Lance when Purdy comes back, then that will be tough, too. Do you keep rolling with the guy that got you there, or go back to the guy that brought on success the year before? Their is more money tied up in Lance right now, so they have to figure out what they have in him. The Bills will have some players due up soon. The Vaughn Miller signing was working out well the first part of the season. It will be interesting to see how they move forward.
  3. The transient population in and out of Vegas will help some, and the surrounding areas, around 4 hours away, will probably look to support the teams, as well.
  4. I'll start changing the programming when the sets start dropping to 3s and lower. Press is a funny thing, for sure. I'm not stalling out at any particular point right now; it's just getting generally heavier and more challenging. I'll eventually get to the point where I'll do a 5x5 day, and a day of 7 to 10 heavy singles. I'll also work in some pin pressing around that time, which is about the most beneficial press assistance exercise out there. Press starts are a good option, too, and I could add those to the end of any press workout, should the need arise. 2/20/2023 Strength Training Squats: 45x5x2, 135x5, 185x3, 245x1, 280x5, 280x5, 280x5. Press: 45x5x2, 75x5, 100x3, 130x1, 144x5, 144x5, 144x5. Lat Pull-downs: 132.5x10, 132.5x10, 132.5x10. A good session. Squats feel heavy at the top, but when I drive the hips out of the hole, it feels good still. I think I'm keeping the form pretty well in check, but I probably need to set up my phone and record a set to be certain. Couldn't make class tonight; parent/teacher conferences at the school.
  5. Kudos to you, Zaine. I think there are times and places for challenging oneself, or putting oneself in a situation of discomfort, in order to battle though it, and this is especially useful early on in an MA career. But after one has been seasoned, it's important to not get burnt out, and pushing to do things that aren't enjoyable is a sure-fire way to do that.
  6. I think some things are better left outside of the credentialing "powers" of colleges/universities. Martial Arts is definitely one of these things, in my opinion.
  7. I get your all or nothing principle, but something is better than nothing, too. You ought to just try maybe 2 days of BJJ per week. Having the knowledge of the ground fighting would definitely be worth it. Do you do a lot of sparring in BJJ? If so, perhaps you could try to break it up so you drill one day and spar one day, and hopefully not get as beat up?
  8. Carr also visited the Jets. The biggest shoe to drop this offseason will be what Rodgers finally decides to do. I wonder a) how long he'll attempt to hold the Packers ransom, and b) how long the Packers will put up with it.
  9. That's interesting, I hadn't seen that news. Oakland won't have much left after the A's move out!
  10. Hopefully you get to feeling better soon! Those setbacks always suck.
  11. I'm curious as to if the Raiders believe Stidham is the answer. Of course, as per usual, there will be a QB carousel with plenty of options up for grabs in free agency.
  12. We both would've enjoyed that quite a lot. IF, God would allow us to train once again, the Bo would be the main fare. That would be awesome!
  13. 2/15/2023 DT Training: 2 hour session in the morning, 8:00 - 10:00 am. The guy who usually helps me out ran this one, and set up a cuffing session for the jail staff. It went really well. 2/16/2023 Strength Training Squats: 45x5x2, 135x5, 185x3, 245x1, 275x5, 275x5, 275x5. Press: 45x5x2, 75x5, 100x3, 130x1, 142.5x5, 142.5x5, 142.5x5. Snatch Grip Deadlifts: 185x3, 245x2, 280x5, 280x5. A good session today. I'm a little discouraged, though, because it feels like press is starting to tank out already.
  14. Good point. While it is possible to learn a lot of new techniques during our lifespan, will they be effective. Or will we be even able to keep performing them correctly. Also if our physical ability declines there will come a time when less skilled fighter will simply overpower us with brute strenght. So after a time what we learn might only be beneficial for teaching next generations. This is the ebb and flow of all things in life, really. We pass through a physical prime, our peak, after some time which things begin to taper off and decline (the rate of that decline can be slowed, but not typically reversed). At that point, we have to decide if we retire, or if we have the ability to start passing our knowledge along to the next generation.
  15. Had to bring this one back! The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl LVII Champions! What a game that was! Trailing most of the game, and Philly absolutely controlled the clock. Jalen Hurts had a monster game, and that guy is here to stay; he'll have a long and productive career. But Patrick Mahomes is just the man. It was nerve racking at the end of the game, to be sure...I give Coach Reid props for putting his trust in Butker to come out with the win! Anyway, great game, and another title for the Chiefs!
  16. Ok Disney, you keep making all this stuff, so what's the deal? The Gargoyles cartoon series was had such a rich, deep storyline, I want to know where my GCU is? What's taking so long here? We've still got Keith David around to voice Goliath/Thailog, and the actors from Star Trek: The Next Generation that voiced Xanatos and Demona. Let's get a move on here!
  17. And quality answers like that are the reason we all keep coming back to KF! Great post, Bob, great detail! Now I wish we'd had some bos to train with when you came down!
  18. 2/13/2023 Strength Training Squats: 45x5x2, 135x5, 185x3, 225x1, 275x5, 275x5, 275x5. Press: 45x5x2, 65x5, 95x3, 115x1, 141x5, 141x5, 141x5. Deadlifts: 185x5, 255x3, 325x1, 375x5. I used a different bar for squat today, kept the grip a bit narrower, and chalked my hands a little, and that seemed to keep the bar from sliding into my wrists. I call it a win. Lat set of press was kind of a grind, and the layback is starting up. I had to do my deadlifts today, because I have someone coming to do housework on Wednesday during my normal lifting time. The set was heavy, but it was probably the technically best set overall I've done in a while. TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Black Belt Class. Do-Kang 1 twice, then Do-Kang 2. After that, we spent some time on the first 6 three-steps, and a little time on Ho Sin Sul at the end of the class.
  19. Mine is an interesting challenge. I have Meniere's disease, and Crohn's disease. The Crohn's is pretty well under control now, but the Meniere's is a different story. I have to limit my salt intake to 2 grams per day, and avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol. Nicotine isn't a problem, because I never smoked or chewed tobacco, and I would only have a drink occasionally. Giving up caffeine sucked, as I liked my Dr. Pepper and coffee. Because of the salt limitations, I prepare a lot of my own food at home. I have a salt substitute that I use, and I avoid processed foods at all costs. One slip up will have my world spinning for an entire day, and likely seeing everything that I ate before. I try to do whole foods, ground beef and turkey, steak and chicken, steamed vegetables, and fresh fruit. I still leave some room for some sweets, like ice cream and dark chocolate. Overall, cooking has been good for me, but I still carry a little extra weight.
  20. That's an intriguing concept; how long would one have to train before becoming a candidate for black belt? What are the distinctions between youth and adult curriculum? In the system I'm currently a part of, there really is no difference. All the material trained and tested on is the same.
  21. The common themes in these replies – that you continue investigating your art, you tailor it to your own needs, you teach it to others, etc. – are all about your practice and your understanding. It is a personal journey. So in some sense I expect most people who stick with it to have some independence, whether by choice or necessity. (I’m also independent of any organization if you can’t tell) I honestly think this is how it was done mostly, especially in the times when it was more commonplace to have only a few dedicated students. I think more standardization has taken hold for longer with the onset of larger class sizes and with many students coming through the halls.
