  1. I did not see that. When was it on? Was it a competition? Or was it just hype? I'll support anything to do with Martial arts. I'll have to check if they will repeat it. I read the article about it in black Belt magazine this month. It sounds like it should be good. Only kicking and striking is allowed, no grappling. I think there are only 4 teams so far.
  2. I agree with shotokanwarrior statement, I have several of Paul Vunaks DVDs. the straight blast was explained by him as top half of body = wing chun, bottom half of body=running a marathon. Once he is on top of you, its elbows, knees, head butts, biting. I think this is a very cool way to enter an opponent in a streetfight, but thats just me Like mentioned in above posts, A good front kick, if landed, will probably stop this attack. I have never been attacked with the straight blast, will train this weekend on this and see what works for me. I recommend everyone watch at least one of Paul's DVDs regarding this. I think the one i have is Rapid Assault?
  3. I tried out the hop fight last night with my 19 kids (ages 6-14). They really enjoyed it. I did tug of war last week. the kids never stop asking when they are going to do that again. Thanks everyone for posting. I am going to try the karate\kung-fu dodge ball next week.
  4. They are both great fighters, but I believe Royce is going to win by submission. I think hughes might try and stay on his feet, but Royce is going fight his fight and take it toi Hughes. I can't wait.
  5. That would be great!!!! I did not think of that! I can't wait until tonight. Who is coming back, Solomon ( DAGGER????), he did not look good in his match, so i hope not!!! I hope tonights fight is good. can't wait!!!!!! who is going to make Matt's sandwiches this episode
  6. OK, let’s talk about last night’s episode. 1st off - NO FIGHT???????????????????????????!!!!!!! I had to go and watch one of my old UFC DVDS. I can't believe that guy (is it Noah? - who cares....he quit!!) Quitting because his girlfriend of 5 months thinks he cheated on her. There was only 2 weeks left, HE WAS ALREADY IN THE QUARTER FINALS!!!! That conversation could have waited 2 weeks; UFC could have been his future. (Disclaimer, attempt at funniness) This girl knew where he was (on UF Season 3), why couldn't she go out and cheat during the show and just keep quiet until the show was over Seriously, she could have waited 2 weeks to tell Noah that their relationship was over. Yes, a note like that would have made me crazy too, but I would have stayed and taken my frustrations out in the octagon. Why did they even allow a stupid note like that to even get to this guy? no one else gets mail!!! It was not like a relative was in the hospital or died or something, it was a stupid argument. I hope he does not marry her, because when they fight, he is going to throw this up to each and every time. (she ruined his chance for something he likes\loves to do) OK, off of that! I think Matt is playing up his being hurt. I think he is going to be a tough competitor in the octagon. Could that really be the first time he took a kick to the face? (I was 8 my first time, at some tournament in NJ. It rocked me, made me train harder) The house is making everyone it crazy, beause they are being mean to matt (yes, he is cocky, but he is deaf - let him have that cockiness - he is not doing it to be mean) I am soooooo addicted to this show. Why can't someone make me a sandwich
  7. Jackie Chan, when he was in his prime. That would be something I could tell my kids....Your dad got beat up by Jackie Chan It would be amazing to se him live in action.
  8. I had the same experience as you. I took Creatine for 1 month, gained about 7pds, but not where I was expecting it.(Gut ) I was Training 3 days Kempo, 1 day weights. I finished the bucket and have not taken it since. I guess it depends on the person taking it. Staying Healthy should be 1st priority, if it could make you unhealthy, I would not take it.
  9. All, Thanks for the advice. My side is feeling better. I felt it again last night when I started to go full out, so i cut back. I'm going to try and allow it to fully heal this weekend by resting. I heard about Arnica, its a gel right? I have to go buy some.
  10. What was the Best Seminar that you attended? and why? Mine has to be any of the Pressure Point Seminars with Professor Rick Moneymaker from Dragon Society International. They taught me how to recognize pressure points within my techniques. I feel that my ability has increase dramatically becasue of this. I look forward to reading everyone's comments.
  11. Sounds like a muscle pull, probably an oblique muscle. It should heal quickly if you let it, but the problem is it's part of your core which you use for everything. Don't do anything that causes pain of discomfort, because that means you're reinjuring it again. With respect, Sohan Thanks! I'll keep everyone informed as to when it goes away.
  12. Thanks for the info... yes i was in full twist when it happened. here was the exact play by play how it happened: I got both hands wrapped around and was controlling my opponents head, twisting downwards (corkscrew) to take him to the ground, felt a sharp pinch, did not complete the takedown - let go and stepped back keeping guard. he stopped because he noticed. (I realized I twisted my waiste prior to stepping my right foot back, normally do both at the same time) We went back at it, but in a much easier fashion.
  13. Its on the right side of the belt line, just above the hip bone.
  14. Thanks for the feedback, i'm gonna ice it later after work. I can feel where it hurts, but i don't see any swelling or bruises. Its feeling better than yesterday, so that seems to be a good thing.
  15. Question, While grappling last night, I felt a sharp pinch on the right side of my abdomen. I finished class, but using a much less intense effort. It was not a sharp pain, but it was knawing at me until i went to sleep. (able to walk around, but can feel it most when going up\down stairs) This morning the knawing pain was less, but still there. Is this just a muscle pull? or could it be something more? or am i just being a paranoid freak! Abdomen pain has never happened to me before. Has anyone ever gone through this. How long should i rest for (and not train) or train, but take it easy. (My wife told me to go to the docs if its not better in a day or 2 and thatv I'm just getting old , I'm olny 31) (i usually train about 2 hours a night, 5 days a week) Thanks in advance for everyones feedback!!!
  16. V was a good movie. some parts were definitely comic bookish, but wasn't it based off of a comic book? (I'm a big fan of comic books!) Here are the unrealistic parts below: (Disclaimer: don't read below if you don't want parts of the movie revealed) -parliment building blowing up with fireworks...but the bomb was in the subway (one 1 subway car full of explosives???) under the building. -V got shot over 100 times, only having a medieval times knight armor chest protector, and being able to kill everyone with guns while they reloaded. (don't get me wrong, that was the coolest scene in the movie!!!)
  17. it hurts, but pain compliance is never the answer. in an adrenaline situation you can't always feel such things. you need to bring the guy down fast and hard, or restrain him. Exactly which techniques to use depends on the sutation.
  18. These are great. Thanks everyone for posting. I'm going to try the Sifu says and dodge ball recommendations tonight. one thing I do: i have my young ones 6-10 play a form of tug-o-war. one old belt used as a center line on the floor. two belts laying across this center line belt. i pick 2 kids (try and keep same size, ocassionall pick completely outmatched sizes for fun - kinda like david and goliath-everyone cheers for the little guy... ), say go, they run out grab onto a belt with each hand and try to pull the other kid over the center line belt. it stops if one kids loses either belt or gets pulled over the center line. the kids love it! they ask me for this beofre each class begins. i have the winners go against each other until there are about 2-3 winners left. i give all remaining winners small patches. they really try hard, its a really good work out for them, especially their legs. another thing: put 4 comes out, making a large square, have the kids jog around a few laps. I say figure 8, they have to now run diagonally making figure 8 around the cones without touching each other. if they touch, they sit down. i say faster, they have to run faster. if i say cat stance, they have to step using cat stances only, same with horse stance. most will eventually tire out and touch each other or miss a figure 8 and their out. this helps them increase awareness of their surroundings and how to move while in different stances.
  19. They Call Me Bruce This movie is classic. its from the 80s. (I think, i first saw it in the 80s ) if you have not seen it, then you MUST rent it. it is ridiculous, but great! fight scene wise, well..... you just have to see it. its no jet le, jackie chan film, but it is a classic.
  20. This is one of the best shows on TV!!! I use to not like Tito (trying to avoid chuck lidell...), but this show is bringing me around. i think shamrock made a mistake by not having a submission coach in his corner (like tito did). Everyone on that show is in fairly good shape, they don't need a bodybuilder\trainer. they need to ensure that they can make weight and last a couple 3 minute rounds. If the trainer is working on endurance, then I take back my comment, but i don't think so... Now, I am a shamrock fan! But I think the guys under team tito is going to win this. I'm gonna root for team shamrock till the end, but don't think it going to happen. comment last episode I can't believe last episode that tito had his guy train the day of the fight causing him to almost break his ankle. i would have just rode the bike or something the day of the fight. he trained hard since the show started, he should be allowed to mellow out 24 hours before his fight. just my thought. Question, (i'm not a grappler, i am starting to dabble), what is the fundamentals of the technique that was used to submit shamrock cocky kid? (looks like some type of elbow hyper-extension, but not sure) if someone could explain this, that would be great
  21. ShoreiSmurf, You above statement is very true. (Arm bars are one of my favorites) I forgot to mention that in my origianl post. thanks for identifying that. Just some additional info for the one who started this post: (Note: fighting should be a last resort, always). You cannot block everything that comes at you while waiting for a hold to present itself - you eventually get hit. If you are not aware of your surroundings (fence, building, cliff, water,...), you eventually run out of space to backup\avoid stikes. You will eventually need to return fire. Note:There are no winners in a fight. Even if you walk away unhurt (thats why I train), thats great. But then ther is a waiting game to see if you get arrested and/or get sued. Sometimes, this can't be avoided - but we as martial artist should be very aware of the consequences of our actions. It always best to think of these things prior to your actions (what will you say in front of the judge?, will this prevent you from prison time? if not, walk away!)
  22. You should use whatever technique that presents itself in a fight. Keep an open mind. If your opponent leaves his arm out with fingers open, and finger Chin-na looks like it can easily be applied, go for it... if arm bar appears, take it... My favorite move: Chin-na grabs (tricep, bicep, skin on the inside of the knee, quads,...) they really hurt, they take fight out of most people, after 5 minutes - pain is gone with no real injuries. Don't wait for a lock or a hold, you'll get beat up.... Go with the flow protecting yourself. After a few strikes, locks and holds make themselves available. But be careful to protect yourself from locks and holds as well. One of my best friends used to be a juvenile corrections officer. He could only use locks and holds they trained him on. The kids (big as he is too) usually hit him once or twice before he took them down. I don't know if i could be nice after getting punched in the face .... Maybe, if a paycheck was involved... good luck with the job!
  23. if you go at them again, what will it prove? you're still alive - no broken bones, right? who are trying to prove your tough to? since you were able to walk away (survive) - you won the fight. it was 2 on 1, so they were the ones afraid of you. A True Martial Artists does not go looking for trouble!!! (Be Humble, there is always soemone out there that can beat you. this is why I train - to be the best that i can) If you fight them again, you might have to fight 3,4,5, 6... of them. Maybe they will have weapons now (bat, chain, knife...) Losing your life or broken bones is not worth what people think of you. Don't worry about what people think. Let it go. Ask your Sifu for suggestions on how to react if these 2 attack you again. he\she should be able to a better response than getting on top of someone when other attackers are involved. this will ensure you are ready, just in case...
  24. If she loves you, she will let you do what you love. If you love her, you will need to sped time with her. BUT, Everyone needs to do their own thing. I train 2+ hours a day, 5 days a week. I have been married for over 3 years and she has never said anything about my training. Never give up training!!! there is always something new to learn!
  25. Strike hard, strike fast. If he grabs you, using your whole hand, pich tricep, belly, hamstring. this should make him stop attacking you for about a minute or so. you could then have the time to escape, or if still cornered - saty on him and control the head with your hands. turn the head in a corkscrew like motion towards the ground. once he falls, kick and run. This was taught to me as part of the Shaolin Chin-na techniques. no matter how big and mad you are, you get pinched in the triceps - the fight leaves you. you definitely get humbled. try it.
