  2. What's up everyone. Just wanted to share an experiance I had this weekend. Me and a few of my friends including my SiFu went to a Training Seminar With Richard Bustillo. It was a two day seminar in which the first day we did MuayThai, Boxing, Wrestling, and Grapping and the second day consisted of JKD, Knife Training, and Eskrima/Dolce Pares. It was pretty intense to say the least and a great experiance. There were a lot of things I didn't like in some of the training but as Bruce Lee Said, "Use what is useful, Disregard what is useless." It was good to get out there and work some different people, and get some exposure. It was cool to learn about his techiniques, philosophy, and some storys abotu him, Bruce, and Dan from back in the day. All in all, I learned a lot, and am looking forward to attend another one of his seminars. The Instructors who brought him in are trying to get him, Michael Moore, and Dan Inosanto to come out and have a seminar with us at once. That would be one hell of an experiance!!! -Ray
  3. I have some experiance with the Jo Staff. In fact, I just about another Jo Staff. Hand made strait from the Phillipines in Kamagong wood. It's Beautiul. Feels like tile floors of how smooth it is. It has hand engraved dragons on both ends. I'll take some pics of it this weekend. I also have trained with 6ft Bo Staffs. The Jo defintly has it's advantage and can be used in more ways and is easier to control. I love it. -Ray
  4. I'm a fairly big guy, and I want to be able to do the splits. What's the best way to stretch to a point where I can do this and feel no pain haha? -Ray
  5. He's an absolute monster. But there's always a way. He's not invincible. -Ray
  6. Haha. Awesome. What do you drive? -Ray
  7. Thanks everybody for the input =) -Ray
  8. That's pretty good dude. I'm a big dude but an awesome sprinter, when it comes to long running I suck. The fastest i've run my mile is about 10 minutes. Hopefully throughout my training i can get it down to atleast an 8 minute mile. I run the 40yd dash in 5.4 seconds and im 6'0 and 255lbs. I can move for a big guy -Ray
  9. Thanks for the advice guys. I'll be working on the stuff menitioned very soon =) -Ray
  10. After reading the responses, I've come to the conclusion it's my diet. (I could be wrong) I usually don't eat breakfast, But I eat a big big lunch and maybe a snack at night time. It's hard for me to eat breakfast. I've just never done it and it would take some getting used to. I usually Go to sleep around midnight-1am, wake up on avergae around 7'ish, go to work or school depending the day, come home around 3-4pm, take a nap for a couple hours, wake up, go out or hangout at my house, and go back to bed at midnight or 1am. So I sleep like twice a day if I include my nap =) I have no patience when it comes to eating a 'small snack' and stuff. I like to eat! Eating 5 small portions a day would really really REALLY be difficult for me I guess I'm going to atleast try it. I got nothing to lose but my patience -Ray
  11. Whats up everybody? I have a question. I've been tyring to lose weight but seem to not be doing such a great job at it. Im a big guy and extremly athletic and competitive. I've been playing sports my whole life. For my size, im extremly fast. I'm 6'0 and weigh 255lbs. Granted I don't look obese whatsoever, I would like to lose some of the excess fat. I do JKD twice a week for 2.5-3 hours, and thats one hell of a workout our SiFu gives us, and i hit the gym 3 days a week. I'm there for 2 hours and focus on Hitting the heavy bag for a while, jump rope, push ups/sit ups, and run/walk on the treadmill. Been doing this for one month now and have not lost 1lb. What is going on here? I feel a siginificant increase in my arm strength and endurance, but I haven't lose any weight! -Ray
  12. How could I increase my knee striking power and speed? -Ray
  13. My current JKD instructor trains us our of his garage. Has matts covering all of the floor. Punching bags, speed bags, bo staffs, sparring gear, etc... He has it all. He used to have his own school outin Texas but prefers to stay away from the politics and advertising stuff. He's not in it for money. He's in it to pass his teachings. And also prefers to work very closely with a handful of people (he only trains 8 of us right now) as opposed to 30 people and not pay attention to detail. -Ray
  14. HAHA. I would feel so friggin' weird fighitng naked -Ray
  15. I dont know. I probably wouldn't do any of the stuff you said. If by talking the problem can't be resolved, I would simply just try to walk away. If the guy INSISTS on going physical, I would simply warn him and advise him to let things be and not fight. If he decides to attack...I would go for a quick blow to the nose. Once people see blood they usually freak out and stop what they're doing. Then carry on with the situation from there. I wouldn't walk around with pepper spray everywhere I go or a knife. In the state of Maryland, it's illegal to carry a blade more than 3 inches long. If you were to get into a fight and they're unarmed and you use your blade on them, chances are that you'll get more of a punishment. So in my case, I would resolve the problem as adults. If things get frisky I would walk away. If the person decided to take it to a physical level i'd give a warning. If warning fails, a quick effective blow that would hopefully make him stop. Then carry the situation from there on out depending on the circumstances. A Male Carrying mace and knife everyday seems rather ridiculous in my opinion. Unless you work in an area that has a reputation of robberys, gangs, etc. But to each there own. -Ray
  16. I've been training in JKD aswell. I gues most people will say that it's best because you 'use whats useful and discard the useless'. You use whatever works for you which makes it the best MA for YOU. I've seen some say that all MA's can be considered JKD because in other styles, you usually only use whats best for you and disregard what doesn't work for you. Which seems to be the main concept of JKD. Just my .02 -Ray
  17. If I ordered it through websites, would it come with english subtitles? Also, What websites!!!! -Ray
  18. I JUST started taking JKD 1 1/2 weeks ago. And in the 3 Classes that I have been to so far, I've learned a great deal. I feel I'm already a better fighter than before. IMO it defintly is an awesome style to learn and I feel 100% sure that in a real life scenario it could help you defend yourself and or save your life. -Ray
  19. My second and third classes were great. We did a lot more sparring and did some drills with punching bags and the hand mittens (I think there called that). I switch my stance all the time while I spar. I don't feel comfortable just staying in one place. Usually I can get in a quick and effect jab in the process of switching stances. According to the instructor and the other senior students, I'm doing a hell of a good job! I can't wait for monday! (next class) -Ray
  20. Ray, Wow, what a great question. The short answer is that I meditate. Do I do it enough? NO. Is it healthy? Yes, yes, yes and yes. Do I recommend it? Yes. Feeling pain? Well there is a certain amount of mind over matter. But given enough pain, and it's very hard to focus it out. Can it be done, sure? If you have a chance, go see senior Uechi students during Sanchin conditioning. The student stands in a Sanchin stance while they are hit, kicked, and attempts are made for them to lose their focus. After enough training this just becomes an exercise even while their skin turns bright red. Anyway, the point is that you can focus and tune things out. As for the positive energy. Look at it this way. Tomorrow, as you wake up. Before you do anything stop. Focus on the ceiling, and slowly breath in and out. Concentrate on relaxing. Then slowly focus on your breath. Think about how you feel good, and how you're going to have a great day. Then after a few minutes, get up and see how your day is. Now today, after lunch, think about your day so far. Focus on something that went wrong. Really think how crummy your day is. Stay focused on this and how it ruined the rest of your day. My bet is that if you try this the rest of your day will be pretty crummy. [so I'd recommend really not doing this, but thinking about when you have] The point is that you can control things with what you believe. As for the actual energy and things that you breath in and out. Well, I'm still working with this, but can say that the more I meditate the better I am. What I was taught is to breath in the good, and expell the bad. That all sounds extremly intersting. The main prupose why I would like to get into it is basically to work on my conentration and relax myself. I'm sure you've all seen the movie BloodSport. Before th eKumite begins Jean Claude Van Dam is doing the splits over chairs and doing some sort of kata. He looked extremly relaxed and conentrating on something. Nothing was distractiing him. Granted it's a movie, hes a MA and im sure he does it in real life as well. I'll give your advice a try. Thanks homie! -Ray
  21. Yea Right -Ray
  22. Is this movie out yet? -Ray
  23. Does anybody here Meditate? I'm heard of it before many times and have an idea on how it's done. But I was/am curious as to what it does. The whole concept of Inhaling positive energy and exhaling bad energy and thoughts. Etc...I'm sure theres other things you can 'inhale and exhale' as well. How you gain positive energy. Nothing distracts you. You feel nothing or pain simply pure concentration. Am I on the right track? Could someone explain it to me so I can have a better understanding. Is it healthy? Would you guys recomend doing this? Thanks! -Ray
