  1. If you retreat in a straight line they always know where to find you.
  2. Ahhh! (sound of ancient gong being struck)Your wisdom exceeds your years ckd. Uh, how old are you anyway???
  3. Debt is viewed differently in europe. If you hit someone and break their nose, you have to pay for their medical bills FIRST, then you have to go to court to recupe your money. At least that is my understanding of the law over there...
  4. My weapon would have the following qualities... 1. It could sense a dangerous situation and avoid or alter its outcome with almost clarivoyant precision. 2. It would not be readily apparent to anyone and would pass through metal detectors with zero chance of detection. 3. It could be used at a moments notice, delivering the exact response to almost any threat. 4. It would have the ability to adapt almost any object into an integrated weapon to fit it's needs as they arise. I'll let you guess what it might be... Of the problems I forsee with Wolverine claws are the mishaps which might occour when performing certain functions in one's own bathroom. I would hate to be the unfortunate Wolverine that had his claws pop out while wiping... _________________ "It is not enough to aim, you must hit." -Italian Proverb [ This Message was edited by: Ti-Kwon-Leap on 2002-06-16 03:22 ]
  5. Get online to your local library and do a search for a martial arts. There should be an encyclopedia of martial arts or something similar. Your first step should be to educate yourself about each art so that you can make an informed decision. It really will be worth the effort. People tend to convert people to whatever art they are taking at the time. Also, they put down other arts that they really know little about. Step 1. learn about the different disciplines. Step 2. Go to the prospective school and observe the classes being taught. Step 3. Make an informed decision! Good luck!
  6. Bon, you totally missed my point. I was addressing MA's assertion that to qualify as a "martial art", all that was needed was the process of readying oneself for war. My point was that if someone developed a system for using a golf club (for instance) to maim/kill then all of a sudden it qualifies as a "martial art". My point is that there is more to martial arts than martial intent. would you not agree? Also, someone said "Tai Chi practiced purely for its health benefits is not a martial art." That's like saying joining the millitary purely for the paycheck is not learning to kill. If the techniques are designed to be used in a martial manner, they are inherently martial. On the other hand a two year old who draws a picture of Osama getting shot is NOT martial art. ..Heh, sorry. _________________ "It is not enough to aim, you must hit." -Italian Proverb [ This Message was edited by: Ti-Kwon-Leap on 2002-06-16 03:24 ]
  7. 1. Never stay in one place. 2. Never retreat in a linear fashion. 3. Always redirect an attack 4. Stymie his best weapons. 5. If he's close enough to punch you you should have already kicked him. 6. always move to a place he doesn't expect you to be. 7. Do not let anger tell you how to fight. 8. Do not spar with six foot black men. (kidding)
  8. That which does not kill us only serves to make us stronger. -unknown masochist
  9. Let them be as ****y as they wanna be....right up until they learn their place in the food chain.
  10. I was hoping to hear from Martial_artist... We seem to be officially digressing...
  11. If someone took Tae-Bo or aerobic kickboxing with the intent of using it to inflict bodily damage, then actually used it to effectively beat people to death, What then? Wouldn't that fit your definition? Martial art encompasses much more than just how to destroy people, much like a real war has more than just footsoldiers. Are not the medics , intelligence, negotiators, etc. part of war? I think that you are trying to take a blanket term and chisel it to fit into your personal definition. You are not alone. I tend to do the same thing when a band like "Simply Red" is touted as "Rock music" _________________ "It is not enough to aim, you must hit." -Italian Proverb [ This Message was edited by: Ti-Kwon-Leap on 2002-06-12 16:32 ]
  12. Someone must have paid Tyson to not fight back, I mean he didn't even use his best weapon....HIS TEETH!!!
  13. The bullies at school are the ones with the problem. Why should the world have to wait for all the bigots to come to their senses before proceeding with life? People are just going to have to accept the fact that homosexuals exist. I think anyone, regardless of their orientation should have to prove themselves mentally and financially responsible before being able to adopt. A child is a human being and should not be given away like so many kittens.
  14. Time will tell, as you said.
  15. Triceps can be worked several different ways using no weights. First, take three chairs place them in a triangle so that your feet rest on one chair and each hand is on the chairs at your sides. Your body should be in an "L" shape. Now simply lower and raise your body using your arms, flexing the triceps at the top of the movement. This next one is a killer: do pushups with your fingers and thumbs touching each other. Make sure you touch your nose to the floor each time, inside the little triangle that your hands form. After this, try doing some handstand pushups, by this time your triceps should be pre-fatigued enough for this compound movement to finish off the triceps. For your quads, try some one-legged squats, followed by lunges, followed by a seven or nine step horse stance. I believe that a martial artist doesn't need big calves, just functional ones. Try jumping up stairs using one leg at a time, or extend (or chamber) your leg and hop on one leg for one to two minutes. Just be sure and warm up first. I don't want to hear about how you pulled all your muscles trying these brutal exercises. _________________ "It is not enough to aim, you must hit." -Italian Proverb [ This Message was edited by: Ti-Kwon-Leap on 2002-06-11 03:11 ]
  16. Your training program should resemble, as closely as possible, the sport that you are training for. SaiFightsMS is absolutely correct. Dumbells teach one balance and control. What could be better for the martial artist?
  17. I don't agree G95, I think Mike has never learned to control himself, and as rich as he is he never will have to. I don't think he knows the meaning of the word humble and frankly, his assanine behavior is not in my opinion the result of careful planning to build controversy, he's just a little boy in a mans body, lashing out in a totally uncontrolled spaz attack of desperation. When you look at his behavior in a nutshell, it becomes more apparent. The man clearly needs help. It's just pathetic and sad. Someone in the news stated that Mike is probably the nicest guy in the Tyson camp, so I don't think he'll be attending charm school any time soon.
  18. C'mon Bretty.... Boring is defined as throwing 211 punches in eight rounds and landing only 49 of them. Of the 328 punches Lewis threw, 205 of them were jabs, most of which hit tyson square in the face. That leaves 123 punches that were not jabs. Were you watching a different fight than the rest of us ? Maybe you found it boring because Lewis made knocking "IronMike" to the canvas look so easy. And G95... I don't believe that Tyson was saying those things merely to promote the fight, there are other ways to promote fights. I believe he is just an ass of low charachter and now he's kissin up so he can get another shot at the title, which by the way he doesn't deserve but hey, it's just my opinion
  19. I used to love watching tyson fight just for that reason, but now I just have contempt for him. There was a time when I had some respect for Tyson but not anymore. Last night, after all that trash talk that preceeded the fight, Tyson was brown-nosing, saying how much respect he had for Lewis and then said something like "I hope you give me another shot at the title". The man has no redeeming qualities. In my opinion, Tyson has taken all the art out of boxing and turned it into something ugly. The only reason I watched the fight is to see him mopping the floor with his face. Thank you Lewis! Maybe this post belongs in a "Tyson is a low life" thread but I don't want to waste space on this Board with the name of a man who should be still in prison, or at least banished from boxing. Bitter? ...Me??? Nah!
  20. Quote: "Are there reasonable substitutes for the "old ways"? " In today's society, there is no reasonable need for turning your fists into the equivalent of tree stumps. Either learn to use your hands on vulnerable targets or buy some brass knuckles so you can knock peoples brains out and still retain your valuable skills as a concert pianist.
  21. His corner was instructing Lewis to finish Tyson early on, but in his interview, Lewis was not interested in forcing it but merely waiting for the proper time. I, for one wanted to see some boxing, not some one or two round slugfest.
  22. I was a competitive bodybuilder for ten years so I can speak with some authority on this subject. The best gains are achieved through working the muscle group about twice a week. an extremely brutal workout should be alternated with one of lesser intensity. A four day split workout works quite well. you could do a push-pull routine where you do back, biceps, lats, hamstrings on monday-thursday and chest, shoulders, triceps, quads, and calves on tuesday-friday for example, or you could do upper body two days a week and lower the other two days. You can train abs on all four days because they are hard to overtrain. Be sure you are drinking plenty of water and eating several small meals a day to ensure a constant supply of nutrients. eat at least a gram of protien per pound of bodyweight per day and get plenty of rest. Part of strength training is being able to tell when you have recuperated and are ready for the next workout. If you are not making gains, you may be over or under training. You must also be patient and willing to accept your genetic/biochemical limitations. In my case, I had to fight for every ounce of muscle because I was built like Frank Zane, as opposed to Lou Ferrigno. Just make sure to always lift in a controlled manner so that you can avoid an injury that could possibly undo any gains that you have made thusfar. All this is assuming that you are trying to pack on a bit of muscle. If you are going strictly for strength keep the reps low (1-5) be sure to warm up! Again, at your age muscle mass is harder to attain so be patient! five pounds of muscle in a year is considered a big gain. _________________ "It is not enough to aim, you must hit." -Italian Proverb [ This Message was edited by: Ti-Kwon-Leap on 2002-06-10 02:45 ]
  23. Don't even pretend that Lewis lacked power. He had Tyson's head bobbling like one of those little dogs in an elderly person's back window. Lewis made Tyson look like a contestant in celebrity boxing. The fight exemplified the contrast between thoughtless rage and focused strategy. This may be a little off-subject but I really ejoyed watching the rapist/wife beater/ear-biter/road-rager/degenerate get the stuffin knocked out of him. My hope is for a personality overhaul not unlike the one that occoured in George Foreman after Ali deflated his fat ego. Good luck on that one...heh. _________________ "It is not enough to aim, you must hit." -Italian Proverb [ This Message was edited by: Ti-Kwon-Leap on 2002-06-09 22:18 ]
