Gangster rap is making a comeback
Martial_Artist replied to wrestlingkaratechamp's topic in General Chat
Valithor, yes, every generation has had its bad-boys and their tough music. But not every generation has music that preaches killing, drugs, sex, and a general disregard for human dignity--and think they're cool for it... Just my opinion though. I've dealt with plenty of punks. I haven't had that much of a problem with the 50's beboppers than I have with the current bad-a$$ gangstas in their g-rides.... Just another annoyance. But that's my opinion. Everyone is allowed to listen to whatever they want to. -
You will not be disappointed ZR440.

Gangster rap is making a comeback
Martial_Artist replied to wrestlingkaratechamp's topic in General Chat
I don't much care for rap music. So I don't much care if it's gaining in popularity. Except, of course, that it might be the influencing instrument behind many young teenage drivers at night and the increase of their "bravado". Translated, it probably just means more punk kids driving "tough" at night. -
Not to enter a debate, but the thieves shouldn't have been in someone else's house if they didn't want to get shot and killed. When someone enters your house you know nothing of this person or their intentions. A 16 yr old boy can kill you as well as a 35yr old. Are you willing to take that chance? What if the 16 yr old had been armed with a gun and had the intention of killing everyone in the house? How would you know? Confront him with a stick? Are you willing to stake your life on a few precious seconds? Someone in your house under those circumstances should know full well the risks they are taking, that includes losing their life over it. Perhaps if more criminals knew they'd be shot by entering someone else's house they wouldn't enter? Defend your home and your family to the death. After all is said and done that's all you have. If you do not have a gun then arm yourself someway. Mercy for the thugs? Do you think they'll be merciful?

Guns.... machine guns, handguns, long guns, single action, double action, select fire, sub-machine gun, Handgun calibers: .22LR, .22, .25, .32ACP, .38, .380, .38 special, .357 mag, .357 sig, 9mm, 10mm, 40s&w, .45LC, .44-40mag, .44mag, .45ACP, .50AE, .500s&w, 5.62x54mm, .30cal, etc., etc. Should I go rifle calibers? How about machine gun calibers? I guess in the sense that they all fire a projectile they're all the same. After all, they are all called "guns". However, when we investigate closer we can see that not all guns are the same. In fact, the differences in some cases are very marked. A single action colt is very different from a select fire smg. As far as martial arts. I'm too tired to comment.

ok. Since the gun is not an option. My choice would have to be either a fixed blade knife or a sword, either short or long. Since I have all of the above, what I would use would depend on my mood.

whats you favorite city in the wrold?
Martial_Artist replied to wrestlingkaratechamp's topic in General Chat
Not Manila, Philippines. Not Seoul, Korea. Not Tokyo, Japan. Not Hong Kong, China. (Although they have the cleanest airport I have ever seen.) I don't have a favorite. Just ones I don't like. -
Million Mom March....lol...I just remembered that one of their leaders tried to shoot the son of someone else in their organization a while back....

bi bim bap is good. I eat that every time I fly Asiana Air or Korean Air. Don't eat the little black chewy square they serve with it. If you ask what it is they'll tell you, "It's Korean Food." It does not taste good.

Martial Arts ads are getting pathetic
Martial_Artist replied to Tombstone's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
What do you mean "getting" pathetic. They've been cheezy since the earliest I can remember(since the 70's). There hasn't been a time that martial arts ads haven't been cheezy. -

I don't know if this qualifies as a pet peeve, but it is something that really gets my blood boiling. Child pornographers. If I ever meet anyone who does this, exploits children, distributes, etc. I will not beat them into a pulp. Someone will have to stop me from killing them. Just the thought of what these people do is enough to raise my blood pressure. I'll come across one eventually and there will be he!! to pay.

Something for everybody to think about. This isn't political, but philosophical. Police are the modern day super heroes. Who else will come to your house at 3am when someone is trying to kill you, rob you, or harm you?
-
Police doing things for money..... LOL Like the salary of a LEO is big enough to encourage someone to put their life on the line for a complete stranger. LOL If police officers wanted money they would switch careers. Excuse me whilst I go laugh.
-
Yes. They are called the Police and every organization within them. They do everything you just describe. But they depend on a vigilant citizenry in order to be effective. A "superhero" could do nothing to stiffle crime rates by himself. Real crime fighting is done by concerned and active citizens aided by the Police. To think otherwise is living in a world that doesn't exist. The only way to stop crime is with the community. No number of Police or "superheroes" will ever change that. A hero, as you have defined, would be next to ineffectual against the real numbers of crime each day. Besides, every single person that gives a care about his neighbor will have more chances at being effective than any "batman" ever would. Remember, "evil only triumphs when good men do nothing"

Nope. I don't do TKD. The bamboo thing is really nothing. I hang a piece in the air about 8.5 ft off the ground. Then I jump kick it. It shatters and flys away. It's not a fighting move by any means. Simply a training exercise. It works some muscles and form that are useful for getting more power in less distance. (If you can jump kick 8.5ft high quickly, how much more so only kicking 6ft?)
-
I am flexible, so I can cheat. I do a straight jump kick and hit a 8.5 ft target hard enough to shatter bamboo. I say, put forth the time to gain the flexibility. However, you do not "need" to be able to do the splits to kick high. But it adds something that not being flexible doesn't: further ability.

A griddle is a flat pan. But you can use a non-stick pan instead. Soft shortening is like fake lard. It's white and soft. Crisco makes it over here. Butter is a good substitute according to a US/UK baking conversions website. As for cups>oz. 1 Cups (US, liquid) equals 8.32674 Ounces (British, fluid) 1 Cups (US, liquid) equals 0.416349 Pints (British) A cup doesn't convert to grams on the program I was using. Hope this helps.

My wife makes the best pancakes I have ever tasted. Here's the recipe: Heat griddle slowly while mixing batter. Beat well 1 egg. Beat in 1 & 1/4 cup milk Then beat in 1 & 1/4 cup sifted flour 1 tsp. sugar 2 tbsp. soft shortening 1 & 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt. Then for some homemade quick maple syrup try this: Put 2 cups sugar in 1 cup water. Bring to boil. Add 1 tbsp. maple extract. Turn of heat. Continue to stir. Pour over butter covered pancakes. Mmmm.

Bad anime endings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Martial_Artist replied to King of Fighters's topic in General Chat
Just in defense of DB. The movies do not coincide with tv series, because they were never meant to. They're kind of like "what if's". So if you watch the movies and then watch the series you'll probably go "WTF???" -
Time. Take it only as high as pain will allow and hold. Don't overextend. Just raise your leg until you feel the stretch and hold. It just takes time.

Should Kicks ever go higher than your own waist level?
Martial_Artist replied to Sasori_Te's topic in Karate
Off topic, but I think I need to say it. I have yet to see any amount of adrenaline prevent someone I've just kicked in the head from passing out. I have 100% effectiveness in this experience. Meaning I have yet to kick someone in the head with intent of knocking them out and not have it happen. Every single person I have done this to has fallen to the ground unconscious. Please note I do not compete or sport martial arts. Just simple street. Also, on the same note, I have yet to see any amount of adrenaline provide resilence to pain or injury in any of the fights I have been in. Every single one of my attacks has done what they were intended to do. I have yet to hit a person so pumped up on adrenaline that they did not feel my punch. I think perhaps that adrenaline is sometimes too oft purported as a definitive factor in a fight. In my 20+ years of experience I have yet to see evidence that supports that. What I have seen of adrenaline does not support the stories of adrenaline. On a final note: while living some years in teh Philippines and dealing with NPA in Northern Luzon I failed to see adrenaline make someone resilient to debilitating pain. Adrenaline is good. I believe it helps put your mind and body on a good level for fighting, but I do not think that it decides anything about a fight. Individuals do that. Just my 2cents. And to repeat my earlier post. I do believe that you should kick above the waist. As SaiFightsMS stated so perfectly: DEADLY if you have the SPEED, and FLEXIBILITY(capitals added). MA.
