if someone pulled a gun on you
Martial_Artist replied to sansoouser's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I believe I had already stated my handgun experience in a previous post. Therefore, indicating that Warp Spider did not fully read my posts. I am a defensive pistol shooter. I spend all my time training for urban defensive pistol situations. I am certified and have recieved traning in this. I have spent time teaching many others the tactics regarding this. I have spent time practicing this. I do not need to justify my position with personal experience because I have done so perfectly well with reality. Therefore I do not want to be redundant and restate ever fact I have already posted just to satisfy someone who has read them all. The facts have been presented. Do what you want with them. It is of no further concern to me. But, as Jerry, has already stated, the reporting agencies and personal testimony of millions are not wrong about what really happens. I don't think I need to take this any further. The reality of the situation is: you stand a better chance of surviving with minimal injury with a forceful resistance than you do willfully submitting and hoping the good criminal will be kind to you--after all he is just robbing you at gunpoint. Bye Bob. Funny guy. I always loved how he supported our troops around the world.

Generally speaking you have no clue what you are speaking about. This made completely obvious by your lack of factual evidence and you inability to make any relevant comments pertaining to fact. Generally speaking, thugs do NOT shoot better than police. 90% of rapists view pornography. To say that 90% of people who view pornography are rapists is a false reversal of a statistic. It proves nothing, other than you cannot find a statistical base from which to argue. Submitting to an assailant is more dangerous than fighting back. This is a proven FACT. Let me spell it out for you: F-A-C-T. It happens every year, 2.5 millions cases of such each and every year. Submitting actually puts you at a higher risk of dying/suffering injury than resisting and forcefully fighting back. How can I state this? Simple: it has been researched and studied, and more importantly, documented. Unlike your argument I state what has been proven and documented. Not what I assume is to happen or believe will happen because I saw it in a movie. You make plenty of assumptions that generalize and assume that a statistic has been researched. For example you frequently state, generally speaking, rather low, most attackers will, most of the time, etc. How can you make such a statement with out fact to back those rationalizations? To infer a ratio of probability without actually having weaighed data is not only reckless but often misleading. Unless you can bring fact to discuss to the table, referring to what you think will happen--that is, making the assumption that you are not a defensive pistol trained person, or have extensive experince in the reality of firearms--you cannot sufficiently explain your position beyond, "I believe it so." I have consistently given factual data supported by logical deduction and experience in support of my position. Unless you can prove otherwise with data and fact, not emotion, then you have no point and will continue to make no point. Therefore, for me to continue this debate I must be presented with data. Not what Hollywood tells you a thug can do. MA. -
What's your street experience?
Martial_Artist replied to Kirves's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I've been attacked several times, but not because I was a jerk or because the neighborhood is bad--it's actually good. I didn't vote because none of the responses applied to me. -
Why not get a Ford F-150 super crew cab 4x4 short bed? The new Hemi Dodge quad cab 4x4 looks nice too.

The most important muscle is your brain. You must first be able to perform the movement with proper form. If you spend time doing a kick in bad form you will poorly develop the muscles required to kick with power and speed. Once you have good form. Then the best thing to do is punch and kick like a mad beast. Can you punch 100 times full power on a heavy bag? Or do you tire out after 20?

I've played BF1942. I admit it is awesome. I haven't bought it yet. I will, though. The only drawback, if you can call it that, is that fo the game to be really fun you need almost 50 people on a server. I played once with 64 and that was by far the most fun I have ever had "playing" war. It was intense. I play DOD because I can have fun on a map with just 16 players. I just hate cheaters though. I forgot to mention. I play the guitar too. I am by no means any good. Just something I like to dabble in.

Yes, you must be taught the intracacies of the punch. Sure, you can slug, hit, slam, or pummel, but to punch...that takes skill.

I never said I expect to receive anything. I said it is hard for people to be chivalrous when most people do not appreciate it. This has nothing with being selfless. If I save your life I will not expect you to say thank-you. I would appreciate it if you did, but I won't expect it nor hold it against you for not saying so. If I hold a door open for a woman and she does nothing, no thank-you, etc. I think nothing of it. I already said I don't it for any other reason other than that's just the way I am. I did say I do these things because I love the feeling of helping. In what way is this not selflessly?

I visit this place. I write. I train. I train some more. Well, I train again. Maybe watch a movie. Then I travel. I translate occasionally. I play Day Of Defeat when I have the time. (Once a week/two weeks) I read books. I train some more. I hunt during the season. I camp whenever. I train defensive pistol. Then I train some more. I teach people languages sometimes. I study different languages.

I know of a quote on a professor's door in a university. "So, you're a feminist? That's cute." Anyways, It doesn't matter to me what the woman thinks of what I'm doing. I don't do it to impress them. I don't do it because I think them weak, or helpless. (Which, by the way, is a very demeaning attack on the men who do take the time to be courteous. Degrading their actions into a sign of viewing women as weak.) I do it because I like to. I enjoy offering my seat. I enjoy holding doors, carrying bags, etc. I simply enjoy being polite. Now, I do what I do simply because I was raised to be polite. Part of that system of politeness includes opening doors for women and offering my seat. That same code of politeness I follow has rules regarding men as well. Shaking hands when greeting. Not letting a door slam in their faces when exiting/entering a building. So, I ask, "So, what?" What does it matter that I open doors for women or offer my seat? What on this earth does it change? Who does it adversely affect? Why should anyone care? Oh my, I'm sorry I opened the door for you. Oops, excuse my politeness. Here take my seat this may be a long trip. What? Someone is going to refuse a free seat like it's some kind of insult? Insult to what? I'll tell you what it is an insult to: foolish pride. It takes a lot of pride to refuse the courtesy another person extends you. Especially since it is not done in a demeaning manner. What a better world this would be were people more humble about themselves. Does it really take that much to rest and take a seat? Or let someone carry a bag, regardless of the weight? If something as simple as common courtesy irks you perhaps you are not secure about yourself? Perhaps you feel you have something to prove? To whom, I ask? To the gentleman extending a courtesy he doesn't have to? A courtesy no one is forcing him to extend? Please, I've heard and dealt with the foolish pride of lots of people all over the world. From both men and women. Any man who "acts" chivalrous because he looks down upon women is a fool, and does not understand the purpose such acts are supposed to fulfill. Any woman who gets "offended" at being offered such a simple courtesy is an ungrateful person, and a fool full of pride. Something as necessary in human life as common courtesy does not need to be met with so much hostility or rejection. It just needs to be accepted and reciprocated. This is really not a complicated issue. It really isn't. Be grateful that in this world of uncaring and rude people there are people who still take the time out of their day to remember their fellowman...or woman. I mean, honestly, how bad is it that someone opens a door for you? For me, I'll continue to be polite to strangers. I don't expect much in return, but, then again, that's not why I do it, is it? MA. p.s. Forgive the rant. It's 12:50am here and I usually get carried away when I have no coherent control over myself at these odd hours.

Again, note: *DO NOT TRY TO EARBOX YOUR FRIEND TO SEE WHAT IT FEELS LIKE* *It can hurt* -
Then what does? Technical abilities + skill to fight = ???? A bad fighter?

Box the ears? You haven't heard of this before? It's an old technique and not necessarily a traditional "martial arts" move. Simply clap your hands over their ears. *Note: DO NOT TRY THIS FOR PRACTICE.* *It can hurt.* -

Maybe he's kneeing your ankles? I just have a hard time imagining this as a serious attack. Anyone that does something like that is opening themselves up for a world of hurt. Any of the things Jerry mentioned would make them go ouch. If he's coming at me, there are plenty of things I can do to make sure he never reaches me. He is putting his head down. Box his ears. Guillotine him and choke him out. Push him down and away. This list is long. I, personally, if this was a "sparring" match would have a hard time not laughing at this guy. The mental image I have in my head is of this guy, head bent down, arms punching forward, and knees marching like a toy soldier. I can't help but laugh. MA. -

Step out of the way. Punching(without control) WHILE kneeing? Useless attack. If I could restrain myself from laughing I'd step out of the way. But if this bafoon is serious about hurting me I'd strike after moving. MA. (Still laughing from the mental picture of someone punching wildly for the mid-section, head down, and trying to knee.) -

baseball bats in fights
Martial_Artist replied to aznkarateboi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
delta1, choking up high on the bat turns it into a very small(short) weapon and nearly ineffective for its size and dimensions. Now that they've choked up high on it, there's all this bat hanging below them not allowing them to maneuver it fluidly. It is, in its best form, a large melee weapon intended for pounding an opponent (when not used in baseball games, of course). I mean at best it's 28-36 inches. Very thin at one end and thick on the other. If they hold it higher, they're also getting a weaker grip due to diameter of the bat. If they hold it lower then they're fighting against the distribution of weight. All in all, there are much better weapons for assailants to choose. Good thing is, most will choose a bat. MA. p.s. Just carry a pistol and shoot them. -
