Apply that attitude going into this grading do your best! regardless, no excuses e.t.c... Karate is about improving oneself, you will just learn alot more about yourself in the end.. Now just do it! Good Luck..

Bolo Yeung?
IronWarrior replied to SatyagrahaKF's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I met him 15 years ago when I was 13 here in Hamilton, Ontario I was a Brown Belt then, he was filming scenes for Tiger Claws 1 at the tournament I was competing in you will see it in the movie, I talked to him and he showed me a couple of tecniques and I got a pic with him I'am actually drinking out of a coffee mug with the pic from 15 years ago on it..lol! He also inspired to start bodybuilding when I was 17 I have since built myself up to 220lbs at 5'8.5 5'9ish 19 inch arms the muscle helps as long as you keep stretching e.t.c. like one of the previous posts said it will only hinder you if your like super huge like Mr.O Ronnie Coleman and who is..lol I seen Bolo move in person and he moves like a lightweight and powerful as hell.. all in all he is a very queit humble man and a great martial artist and I love watching his movies, one of my fondest martial arts memories to date was meeting and talking to him.. -
Does anyone here know what he has been up to or where he's living? I had the honour of talking to and meeting him when I was 13 years old when he was here in Hamilton, Ontario filming 'Tiger Claws 1' I'am actually drinking out of a coffee mug right now with the pic with him 15 years ago..lol how time flys.

Billy Blanks
IronWarrior replied to theadric's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
I seen him fight in 1984 at a tournament I was only 7 years old then, he was very athletic! and he did this double front jump kick from a fighting stance and nail the guy in the chest with both feet at once, plus rolling, flipping axe kicks e.t.c.. was wild to watch.. -
Lost in Time - The Modern Way
IronWarrior replied to White Warlock's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I'am from the old school style of karate no pads e.t.c.. thats how I learnt and i'am only 28 started when I was 5..Its mostly about money $$$ now, thats why theres like 5 ufcs a year now..lol I always thought it was going to stay a 1 year event like the Sabaki Challenge e.t.c where the overall champ defends his title yearly, I find it very boring now..and we have pushed aside the pioneers of the arts..but like I said its the almighty $$ taking over our honour and respect for the arts.. -
Boxing, how to defend
IronWarrior replied to bma_mat's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Use Tai-Sabaki 'bodyshifting' stay close to him, moving to the outside of his attacking side, and jam him up! grab, clinch use knees, body punches, dont fight him straight on, move to the outside, it will throw him off balance when he trys to throw a hard low kick, shift fast when he throws, he will either lose some balance or have to 'set' himself again when he does attack and attack hard and fast! -
New to this and want to see about full contact
IronWarrior replied to Enshin Karate's topic in Karate
Yes I like the aspect of respect and honour you see in the Sabaki and Knockdown Karate events, although there are some respectful fighters in the UFC e.t.c. I find theres too much trash talking and dis-respectful antics that go on, old school karate appeals to me much more.. Its probably do to the fact thats the way I was taught since I was 5 when I started Karate thats respect and your honour are very important. -
Who really knows? Great Movie star, Great Martial Artist, but UFC I dont know??? One guy I would like to see...Mas Oyama! that would have been very interesting.
-
As long as your eating enough 'good' food.. and not over training in the gym you should be ok and also getting enough sleep too.
-
Kata could be considered the 'essence' of Karate, without kata there would'nt be Karate, thats why all styles of karate have them and the masters developed them, its the characteristics of each style, example 'Shotokan' low stances, very direct, Wado Ryu, Higher stances, tai sabaki 'body shifting' indirect.. its all in the Katas.

New to this and want to see about full contact
IronWarrior replied to Enshin Karate's topic in Karate
It depends which type of Full Contact competiton your talking about if its Enshin Karate 'Sabaki Challenge' type events or Kyokushin Knockdown I love it! I dont like the UFC 'no holds barred' events. -
Eat Big! Lift Heavy, and Rest.. Hit each bodypart hard once a week, buy a High Calorie weight gainer to help you get in all your calories for the day, follow that up with a good Multi Vitamin and some extra Vit C and you will see some good results.. most important always keep it simple, and dont get into buying alot of supplements, save your money stick with the basics..good luck
-
I'd cut your training back to hitting each bodypart once a week..like a 4 day split 2on 1off 2on 2off. Theres no 'set' weight you should be benching everyones different, some can't bench alot but can deadlift a alot or squat alot. I'am 5'9 220 can bench 365 for 6 reps, my one training partner i train with sometimes can bench 345 for 4 at 6'0 and 235lbs we have been training for the same time, probably has to do with the fact that I have shorter arms 'less range of motion' so see everyones different when it comes to how much you can bench..
-
Do 'Olympic' type of lifts like the snatch and clean and jerk for power that will develope explosive power without adding much 'bulk'.. Olympic weight lifters must stay in a certain weight range also and they are extremely explosive at a light weight.. bodybuilders use a moderate rep range around 6-8 a bit lower or higher and more exercises to really break down the muscle tissue so it grows 'bigger' and 'stronger'.. check into 'Olympic' lifting, also try doing some 'plyometrics' in your training also.good luck

Never too old! Karate is a 'Art' its about perfecting and learning about oneself in the end.. age is not a issue,.. you dont have to be a great athlete to be a great martial artist, you will understand what i mean when you get into training..good luck
-
Wing Chun is a Self Defense Street effective art, Point karate style fighting like you see in the NASKA type circuit is more 'sport'.. I competed in that type of circuit for a while when i was younger and you hardly see blocking of any kind its all 'blizting' trying to 'score' first like 'tag'..

Pat Morita (Mr. Miyaga) Dies -- Sad
IronWarrior replied to liquidkudzu's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Thats sad news! just seen it on TV.. I remember going to see the first Karate Kid movie in the theatre when it came out I was like 6 and a yellow belt then..lol wow just makes me think how time flys by so fast..R.I.P..Mr.Miyagi! Osu! -
I'am 28 and started when I was around 5 and got to very high level in continous contact style of kumite 'open tournament' won some major titles e.t.c.. but I always felt I was searching for something deeper and relized martial arts is alot! more about a journey not a 'event' fighting in a 'organization' or winning a 'title' that stuffs all nice, but it dos'nt make you a 'true' martial artist it dos'nt last! I have now retired from the competitive side of the Martial arts and enjoy the training and just learning I may compete again in the future who knows I like the Sabaki and knockdown events its appeals to my traditional roots in Karate alot but who knows... always stay 'rooted' in the 'art'! Osu!

I never drink alcohol! its caused me major problems a couple of years back, and I just broke down basically and could'nt see how a person who has been in the Martial Arts almost all his 28 years plus a avid bodybuilder get to that point.. I dont care if people drink its a personal choice just as long as they dont hurt anyone or act like a idiot, since I stopped drinking all together I feel alot! better physically and Mentally plus I also always have money in my pocket..lol I would go out on a Friday and Saturday night before I quit drinking with 300 dollars and then go in my jeans pocket the next mourning severly hung over and find a couple of 5's and some change..lol this kept happening over and over and over... plus I made some real dumb choices while drinking such as getting in a car and driving, luckily I was never pulled over by th cops or thank god I never hit anyone, just bounced off some guard rails, and damaged my car.. so you see I just got to a point where I relized I was going to end up in jail or dead if I kept doing this, I chose to stop drinking altogether.. I dont even go out to clubs or bars anymore just restaurants and movies e.t.c.. I cant be around it.. my choice.

On a daily basis probably a police officer, then a firefighter, a soldier 'when they go to war' and anything in the heavy industrial field 'ironworkers' e.t.c..

I've been a martial artist almost all of my 28 years and started body building training when I was 18 and love it, it helped me alot! in terms of increased stability, and overall power in my tecniques, plus my body could take more punishment from blows from the added muscle.. as long as you keep stretching and training you wont get slow and 'muscle bound' unless you extremely huge like a Mr.O Bodybuilder and who is..lol I'am 5'9 and 220lbs and just as fast if not fasted then when i started lifting a 165lbs 10 years ago.. I actually train more in the gym then the dojo these days, do to my schedule e.t.c... I love it..good luck!
