  1. I do... Skull Crushers 'watch your form on these' 4sets 6-10 Icarian Cable Ext. 4sets 6-10 Pushdowns 4sets 8-12 I do this routine after 'chest' on mondays..

Bodyfat % is a strange thing..lol I got mine tested 2 different ways in August and I got 2 different results the calipers said 16% and then I got bio-electrical inpendence done and it said 22% then I did it again the next day and it said 19.2% lol.. So I talked to a competitive bodybuilder and personal trainer friend off mine and he calculated it all out and said I was around 17-18% I'am 5'9 220lbs with 19 inch arms, and a 36 inch waist.. to be really 'cut' your going to have to be down around 11% or so..
  3. There is no style Wado "Ki' .. Only Wado Kai and Wado Ryu which are the same thing... Somebody could be teaching Wado Ryu or Kai and calling it Ki 'for whatever reason I dont know.lol' but sometimes people for some reason create 'off shoots' of styles and they end up being basically the same style..
  4. Jeet Kune Do is a 'concept' not a 'style' Bruce did'nt beleive in set styles only 'martial concepts'.. in Jeet Kune Do theres no katas, or a right or wrong way to do a tecnique e.t.c. its whatever works for you..is it right for you..well go try it out for yourself! good luck

  6. Cotton Canvas is thicker 'heavyweight Gi's over 8-9 oz's' Cotton Fabric is lighter 'light weight gis 8oz's and under, if your looking for high quality and durability always invest some money and buy a Heavyweight Canvas gi.

How old are you? if your 16+ I'd suggest you bulk up! and get on a good lifting program where your not 'overtraining' supplement your food intake with a good multi vitamin some extra vit c and a good weight gain powder! to gain 15lbs of pure muscle your going to have to put on about 30 or so pounds of 'weight' gaining 'pure' muscle all at once naturally takes a very long time unless your on steriods or GH, your young so bulk up first then 'cut up' up your physique later, like the saying from 'Arnold' goes a 'sculpter cant sculpt a peeble'! you need size first! Eat,Lift Heavy and Rest! good luck

Great actor, Great Martial Artist e.t.c. as a fighter well thats something we will never ever know! he probably would'nt of even bothered with the UFC if he was still alive, he could have competed when he was alive? he did'nt and did'nt care too.. He has already proven himself as a great great Martial Artist and he gave so much of himself to the Martial Arts community..

  10. Its very possible its real! I have seen on numerous occasions over my 23 years in Karate people move that fast and with good tecnique! one of them being the late 'Masuru Shintani' (9th Dan Wado Kai'' the man was like lighting and the scary thing he had control at all times, he would do throws and finishes on students demonstrating at full speed and the student would say after I cant beleive it! and none of the students ever got hurt.. amazing to watch!

Try this game called 'Bull in the Ring' put all the students in a circle give them all a number put one student in the middle of the circle and when you call out a number that student attacks with 2-3 tecniques and the student in the middle has to defend and attack back, its a good drill for reflexes and awarness, just make sure the kids have head gear on and are padded up..lol since they arn't seeing some attacks straight on, after one student stays goes threw all the numbers pick another student to go in the middle e.t.c. e.t.c. keep going at a fast pace, calling numbers, changing students in the middle... it works well and keeps all students attention focused at the same time.

Shodan Test :- 9 mandatory katas, 1 extra of choice -1 weopons kata 'of choice' - Self defense routine of 6 tecniques - Randori Self defense against, open hand attacks, and weopons, plus also multiple attackers about 20 attacks in all. - Kumite 10 matches around 2 or so minutes continous - a written test handed in 2 days before actual grading 'this gives us a good idea of what to look for and ask each student as there getting graded shows if they got it from a book or actually know there stuff..works well.' - the student must also be able to teach a full class on there own, with Shihan observing.

I have come across students before that knew the tecniques and how to perform them but when it came to putting them in a sequence 'katas' they could'nt remember at all... what I would do is go through his katas this way.... talk him through the tecniques, example.. say 'his name' bow, step into front stance,right reverse punch , step up front kick, turn to your right, front kick e.t.c. if he came perform the tecniques as you call them out and place his feet hands e.t.c.. he knows his stuff! or perform the first 3 tecniques, get him to copy you after you complete yours then the next 3, get him to copy you again..good luck
  15. Theres a big difference between 'Sport Karate' and 'Traditional Karate' to win in 'Sport Karate' like you see in the NASKA circuits, you have to throw the traditional stuff out the window.lol! Traditional Karate the way it was meant to be is way too dangerous for any competition, its only for self defense! you cant trap,break and throw, and hit vital points e.t.c. in sport competiton.

I would'nt worry about it until it becomes a problem, dont say nothing to him it will only embaress him since your a higher rank e.t.c.., unless he comes up to you about it and says he likes you deal with it then and say I have a boyfriend e.t.c. e.t.c.. I had a girl that had a crush on me 8 years ago that I used to teach, Ironically I got talking with her and we ended up dating and going together for 3 years it did'nt work out in the end and she ended up quiting but we still talk off and on e.t.c.. since you dont like this guy in that way, and you also have a boyfriend it should'nt be a problem, just stay hush hush about it..good luck

If he's always training hard in class I would try and get to the root of the problem of why he's not mentally picking up the the 'katas' e.t.c. in order to advance in rank.. whats this persons lifestyle like? is he mentally challenged? e.t.c.. that he cant learn? does he have trouble remembering tecniques in sequence? e.t.c..

Its sad to see but it seems to be out numbering traditional karate, 'sport karate' I remember back around 1995 I competed in a Open sport Karate tournament in the Kata division 'traditional forms' and I did my form to a tee e.t.c.. after I placed 8th out of 20 competitors the judge said my stances were not low enough and here was a high ranking shihan telling me this..lol! I told him Wado stances are 'High Stances' thats 'Traditional for my style' isn't this a 'traditional forms division'lol! he said yeah but we look for low stances and lots of yelling..lol! I just laughed and walked away..
  19. Martins Wado Kai Karate in Hamilton, Ontario, My instructor is Wayne Martin 7th Dan 'Wado Kai' I'am a 3rd Dan under him I'am 28 started karate when I was 5.
  20. I guess our minds like to play tricks on us!.lol but seriously.. I used to work security in a psyhciatric ward of one of our local hospitals here and I used to see some strange strange things people did..lol then I would also be able to have a coffee and 'normal' conversation with the same people on my breaks..lol
  21. I would use dumbells for upper body work so you can work unilaterally to build up the weak side.

Muscle definition 'being cut' is mostly a result of clean diet and cardiovascular exercise.. doing situp,crunches,leg raises e.t.c. just 'build' your abs up, just like doing curls for your biceps, to see the cuts you got to drop your bodyfat % most 'healthy men have about 20% bodyfat or so to see abs you need to come down to about 12% give or take everyones different.. but like I said you also have to build them up by doing crunches e.t.c.. if your really skinny do weighted crunches e.t.c.. Genetics also play a role as well I knew this black guy I used to train with at one time he ate like total crap and he always had abs showing, and big guns..lol for me as long as I drop the junk food they start to come in and I dont have to do any Cardio but everyones different, for Cardio if your training in Karate 3 days a week for 1.5 -2 hours a pop and the classes are pretty fast paced and your sweating like crazy that should be enough as far as Cardio goes, the rest would jus be watching what and how you eat... good luck
  23. I agree with this topic 100%! I started karate in 82' when I was 5 and as kids we did'nt even wear any pads , of course we did'nt make contact to the face, and if we did use pads it was those clothe ones that covered your shin and just your instep..lol old school... and the hand pads were also the same material, not the flashy colourful foam dipped ones of today and all are uniforms were either mostly white or black not neon pink and purple with glitter..lol
  24. The question could be do you feel some instructors today and students lost the traditional aspects of Karate, that were more prevalent years ago then today.
  25. Anyone know what happened to Jim Kelly star of the 'Enter the Dragon' does he still train, run a dojo e.t.c..
