  1. Heloooo Karate Forums..It's been a while since I last posted, so I think most of you might not remember me...But to the topic..here in the Philippines, the term Arnis is generally use, and yeah..It's a regional thing..We Filipinos have about 107 languages, and while the national language is derived mainly from Tagalog, there are many more Cebuano speakers than tagalog (My main is cebuano but I am very much fluent in tagalog)...Well. power-relationships playing here, Some cebuanos feel that the tagalog should not be the dominant language, and it is reflected in the regionalization of terms. I think in cebu its called Escrima...I might be mistaken.
  2. Whoah..It's GOOD TO BE BACK!!!!! ....Been a long time since I last posted...Well, I just have one question for you guys..any body heard of a sanzibar (zanzibar, sansibar), a waray blade from the islands of leyte and samar from the Philippines?
  3. Juan Peron (former president of Argentina) practiced boxing and fencing
  4. Welcome then!! Kage Bunshin no jutsu!!!
  5. What's with the TKD guy going topless and going berserk with the Katana?
  6. I hope the NAruto story speeds up...It's dragging already...
  7. This thread reminds me of Soul Calibur...Just a thought.. ..I wish there is a real weapons tournament, where nobody dies...I don't know how...blunted blades maybe with colors/dyes to determine a hit...That would be interesting..
  8. Escrima sticks are used here by 'tanods' or men hired by the local government to patrol the streets tofether with the police at night...
  9. Ever experienced a Van Damme movie marathon...
  10. Say bushido_man96, have you read the book Timeline by Michael Crichton...It has this character Marek, a historian who trains in medieval combat, who would eventually find himself being transported back to the Hundred Years War and confronting real knights.I think it was stated in the book how he saw how marveled at their speed...I wish I was someone like you or him, there are simply no one here in my place who knows these stuff, none that I know off anyway. The closest is fencing, which we know is a hundred years off the period we like. But oh well, someday soon...
  11. Hmmm...McDojos...Yes I think I would agree with bushido_man96 on this...Elitism only breeds ignorance on the part of the masses, ignorance that causes the mysticism that makes it 'widespread and potrayed as a magic pill that makes you invincible or something that's 'just for kids''. I had a classmate back in high school who did MA since he was 4. I could really say that MA had a very big influence in his life. He was very disciplined and careful in his undertakings. He was the one who encouraged me to train back in the MA's.
  12. Maybe...but as was discussed in other threads, it also did some good to MA, namely fostering an interest in MA, especially from the youth...
  13. Some of the seven sword forms I think were seen in the movies...I'm not sure what Luke uses though...
  14. Wow!!bushido_man96...you really know stuff!!!hehe..What I observed the most is that there is a lot of mysticism given to the oriental arts that one might misunderstand the efficacy of non-oriental arts...
  15. HAppy New Year!!!!!!!
  16. Whoa, just read this thread I started a while back...now that I own a katana, I can confirm some of the facts...I've learned a lot from the posts above. It gave me perspective for future researches. Thanks. If any of you still have something to say, I'm all ears (eyes)...
  17. I don't know if this is a repost but I was wondering if any of you guys here are fans of the Star Wars universe? Anybody familiar with the Seven Jedi Lightsaber forms?
  18. 1 hour in the new year...I'm from the Philippines so I understand many of you guys would welcome the year later on based from my time zone..hehe...
  19. May the Force be with you young Padawan... Yeah, the lightsaber would be the ultimate weapon if it existed. Did you know that there are seven lightsaber forms, with each individual jedi favoring some forms over the others...?
  20. I'm for weapons anytime...I don't know why, maybe its only me, I think to become a complete ma practitioner one must master both armed and unarmed forms...Our forefathers, no matter what civilization and culture they belonged created weapons to gain advantage in combat, weapons that can now only be learned through peacetime training we call the Martial Arts. I believe we must do the same and take that advantage.
  21. Happy New Year!!!!
  22. agreedWhat about Kung Phooey and Kung Fu Hustle? They're just as bad too! yeah but come on...they wern't ment to be quality MA movies. They were supposed to be funny, and i laughed. Hear! Hear!!! Kung Fu Hustle was funny...
