  1. Yeah those damn mirrors, whenever i look into one i expect to see someone standing behind me. (Too many horror films i think)
  2. I suppose it depends which country you are in.
  3. This is a good site that very briefly outlines many popular styles of MA: http://www.martial-arts-info.com/. Another good site is https://www.wikpedia.com - search for the desired style and it will explain it more in depth.
  4. Hey, welcome to KF. I didnt know they had belts in kickboxing... Your best bet and finding sretching excercises is in the Health, Fitness and Trainging forum.
  5. I heard a story similar to that... A teenager was attacked on the street with a knife, he disarmed the attacker and took him down. When the attacker stood back up, the teenager handed the knife back and bowed. No idea if its true or not.
  6. I have read too many negative comments about Kyokushin, people say that it is a messy and brawling, that it is completly focused on tournament traning and that it is a shallow fighting style of karate much the same as kickboxing and has no philosophy behind it. I have found an excellent article (from blackbelt magazine, 1994) that I think everyone, especially kyokushin critics, should read. I'm not saying that it is a superior style of martial arts, just trying to put some of the common misconceptions to rest. Here's the link: http://www.diegobeltran.com/htms/oyama/oyamalegend.htm It explains Kyokusin philosophy, training and the founder Mas Oyama. Mods, delete this if it is in someway inappropriate. OSU
  7. Yeah i'm sure they lock a school kid up for being in a fight.
  8. Haha, I sometimes take a word a repeat it over and over until it doesnt sound like a real word anymore aswell. I sometimes scare myself by imagining jumping off a cliff and the feeling of free falling to your death. (Im not suicidal!)
  9. So...what exactly is your question? Seemed like more of a statement.
  10. lol, If that wasn't sarcastic SenseiRick, then it should have been.
  11. if you throw up in their eyes then taking them out should be easy. And 10 3-minute rounds? Im guessing your not training for real self defence. I have never been in a fight that lasted over 3 minutes. I am starting to have my doubts your sensei Im not an instructor yet though so I wont say anything Sparring isn't real-life self defence fighting. He already mentioned the 3-minute rounds are for endurance.
  12. Respond with "OSU!".
  13. Wouldn't mind a new computer...and a heavyweight Canvas Gi.
  14. Same, seems absurd...are they testing you on your ability of how well you can prevent yourself from spewing??

    Pads

We usually partner off and do some kicking/punching drills. We go full contact. And we don't usually practice the elbows and knees, mainly just hands and feet.
  16. Full Contact is very important I think.
  17. Welcome!
  18. Youv'e never heard of Isshinryu?
  19. Most Japanese martial art systems (karate, judo etc) use belts. Some chinese systems are now adopting the belt system aswell.
  20. Ok cool.
