  2. when I do Mauy Thai, I stand with my strong side behind me, so I can have a good round kick, but it makes my jab even worse than normal should I change positions during the fight or put my strong side forward? any ideas
  3. I am 22 now but when I was younger I used to get that alot, it does reall hurt and it gets worse when you use your knees for running etc. but It just seemed to be growing pains and it will proably go away, however in the mean time when you feel pain move you knee joints with your arm (not putting any waeight on them) this will stimulate them and releave the pain, also fast rubbing of the hands on the surface, this is only temp relief thought but it is what In used to do and It helped alot. I would say to your TKD instructor he may know some exercises to help to.

    Horse Stance.

I am sure the horse stance is usefull for something, but not for fighting, nor is any fixed stance, It is only ignorance to think that you should adopt a spacific stance depending on the situation, you should change your stance yes, but to something that gives you the best advantage at that time. this may be something you have never done before. If some one adopted the horse stance when fighting me I would not be woried about them beating me, I is next to usless against a real fighter.
  5. I train in Mauy Thai want some extra training other than the 4 hours a week i get from my club, so is there anybody in the. 6. yes there is limitations in mauy thai, as you obviously know them could you please share them with us all and we will compare them with the limitations of karate? the main limitation is you stick to pure mauy thai i supose is no ground work, but most schools teach bjj basics/vale tudo etc. along with thai.
  7. No my opinion is most KarateKA dont have real fights and there for dont know what is efective and is not, they also are not expecting anything other than Karate techniques, as there oponent wont score for using something that is not in the system. Karate compititions are like strategic games where you have a long list of moves you can perform and set ways to counter them. where as mauy thai is still very strategic but you can do almost anything and there for it is more to do with seeing openings and using the best thing you can think of at the time , (whitch may or may not be something you have dont before) I am not saying Karateka are unintelegant far from it it takes alot longer to be proficent at karateka than thai but that is because of the set moves, I think Karate is a great sport and admire pratitioners, however is is more to do with learning an acent art, than fighting. suming it up Thai boxers are hardened fighters, and Karateka are Karateka. excuse all the spelling mistakes please. lol
  8. If you are in the stree and our numbers you are a goner nothing will save you, unless you can run, or scare them off by getting the first hits in and ko ing them or hurting them but alot of people who get in fights would leave till one of you is wasted. thanx for all your views
  9. This is obvious if some one hits there oponent in the right place at the right time they could kill them, this could just as easyly be some guy on the street that knows no martial arts, the point i was trying to make was not that thai boxers are invinsable but rather, limiting your self to one art with the belief that it will make you a complete fighter is stupid, I can understand that Karate is not just about fighting and It is something i respect and and intrested in, but alot of people out there belive that it is some great fighting style that is the ultimate, where it is obviouse that to be a godd fighter you have to fight and make your mind up what works. and makeing an accurate strike to the face like you tlk about is not exactly the easyest thing in the world it would take good fighting skill to know when and where to strike, something that mauy thai concetrates more on than Karate. _________________ "perfection, is something we all get closer too with training, but you will never get there and untill you accept this your mind will be limited in what you can achive" - Dave [ This Message was edited by: dafabe on 2002-04-09 09:46 ]
  10. that has clear up my confusion thanx, I was not dising Karate, perhaps The subject title i used was misleading. thanx for you views
  11. Kata takes a long time to learn and does not improve balance, breathing any more that other technics that take alot less time, Anybody that practices Karate and nothing else (or any one art for that matter) is limiting them selfs, sure it is hard to get up the ranks and I admire people that have for there dedication, but in 10 years you are not a good a fighter as someone that really fights, learn the kicks and punches and throws and graples from as many arts as you can, use that stuf that works and throw away the rest, I belive that someone who has practiced a mix of say, bjj, mauy thai for 2 years, 6 hours a week, would destroy any some one that does pure karate for 6 years. just my view. and your view will all be valued. _________________ "perfection, is something we all get closer too with training, but you will never get there and untill you accept this your mind will be limited in what you can achive" - Dave [ This Message was edited by: dafabe on 2002-04-09 06:56 ]
  12. The reson you dont see the fancy kicks in real mauy thai fights is not cos they dont exsist, but because they is not often a time where kicks like that can be used efectivly , Mauy thai is about as real to fighting as you can get, apart from ufc etc. where as arts like karate incorperate unrealistic moves witch confuse the practitoner and stop them using the moves that work. I do mauy thai and I like thigh round kicks, body round kicks and head round kicks, also i use feints to alow the use for the more complex moves.
  13. Do it now you are young and will get flexablie and fit quickly, I am 22 and have only started back at my mauy thai class and hope to get flexable too. but i wish i had kept at it. you dont have to make the same mistake i did
