  1. since this thread is talking about running, i think i'll bump in a question: how fast should one run to improve the leg's strength? any special routines? such as 100m sprint, 200 m jog (about xkm/hr)? what about stamina?
  2. ok, i've just started martial arts training for about 4 months, and the training at the university (i'm 19 already.. a little late for my first martial art, isn't it?) is only 2 times per week. so i need to do some workout on my own in my tiny room (apartment). and i mean tiny. so small i can't even do a mawashi-geri (round kick?). and i have to clear up my room to make space for push ups. of course, doing kata practice is out of the question any of you guys have some drills for training in such limited space? my main weeknesses, AFAIK, is that my muscles are very weak (imagine, i'm 6 feet but weighs only 58 kgs!), especially my legs. i'm not even the least flexible. i can't seem to control the left side of my body. left punches are ok, just not fine enough. but left kicks are almost impossible for me to do. you name it, maegeri, mawashigeri, sokutogeri, kansetsugeri, i can't do it. and the seniors say that my kata is very very "hard". but that, my sensei said could be cured by the training of ibuki. thanks in advance.. ps. if anyone asks why i can't go training outside, the answer is that i don't have the appropriate time to do so. i study during the day, so i could only train at night on weekdays. as for weekends, work work work...
  3. i've just began training in martial arts for around 4 months. i'm studying gojuryu karate and have never done anything before. so i really want to hear from the people around here what's the heart of the gojuryu karate? i've learnt from some of the seniors that gojuryu mainly focuses around controling your breath in corresponding with your muscle. gojuryu katas such as sanchin and tensho really focuses on this principle. it's called "ibuki" if i remember my sensei said that, for example, in shotokan, there's no stuff like this (muscle control and breathing)? in short, what's the key to understanding (if not mastering) the heart of gojuryu karate? some one enlighten me ps. since this is my first official post, i'd just like to say "hello"
  4. Gojuryu Karate. white belt with yellow stripe.. still got a long way to go (just been training seriously for 4 months anyway, and that means 1 test )
  5. traditional muaythai is beautiful. as far as i've seen, my fav would be the one that you use the opponent's knee as a stepping stone and bang your elbow behind his neck
  6. from what i know, the "waikhru" ceremony is used to test the boxers' strength too (apart for it's traditional purpose, as its name suggested, to give respect to the teacher). kind of like warming up for the fight, i guess
  7. leg checks? hmmm.. i've seen some muaythai boxers use it, but it doesn't seem to be too effective in the game.. maybe the other guy's leg's just too hard
