haha. the very club i need. before i trained MA seriously (about 3-4 months ago), my height is 179cm, and 56kg of weight. now, i'm around 58kg. not so bad for someone who does not work on body building and has only junk for food, imo but for some reason, some people said i look thinner. i was like, "what!?" hehe. the only way i could lose weight right now is probably cutting an arm or 2

so who won? and in what way? full contact sparring (won by KOs), or competition style (won by points)? just curious since i have witnessed a green belt (gojuryu) beat a black belt too.
-
if that is the point in your first post, then it should've been stated more clearly, IMO. cause in your first post, all you said was the "yes but grading can fule this further" part. back to the subject: yes, i agree that great care should be taken into the situation. the problem probably depends on each dojo. more specifically, the people in that dojo. regarding to the taekwondo guys at my college again. according to my seniors, their seniors were always friendly and humble. but for some reasons, the newer members seem to be a bunch of jerks who just wants to get into a fight.

da best MA when getting into a fight is to scram!!!

yes, you did not say that "you could not be arrogant if you done may thai", neither did you say that "you could be arrogant if you done muay thai". maybe my english skills are a bit limited, but these are the points i got from your post: -grading could make people arrogant -everyone should be treated with respect -it's your whole life that makes you a good person, not just MA -and then you go on saying how you would like MT to have a grading system so that you can let others know how good you are. but in the end, you don't really care. -then you said the MT class you went to was very friendly. what i said: - i don't blame them for having the pride of getting the black belt. -it just comes down to the individual, not the system. tell me, what are the points i have repeated? you were saying "grading gets to peoples heads" and i'm saying that it's not the grading, it's the people. Any OTHER MA you would like to learn?.....
Ai Hate replied to OldRookie's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
definitely aikido first. then judo, it think. i've always appreciated arts that uses the enemies stregth against themselves. -
actually, i find sumo very interesting. especially how it preserves it's traditions and rituals, sth should've been done in every MA.
-
concur. as for me, i first took karate cause i just needed sth to do apart from studying. to get away from the stress every once in a while, i guess. after a few months of not training frequently, i decided to give it a serious shot and actually liked it. and have been training every since (haha. i talk like a long time, no? actually, it's just about 3 months ) from the very first day, i was empasized that it's not only about training physically, but also mentally. now, the more i learn, the more i like it. i hope to train as hard as possible, but not stressing on it too much that i lose the fun i'm having. i started training seriously cause it's fun and it's still how i view it. if one day it's not fun anymore, i'll probably quit. $.02

Long term and Short tern goals?
Ai Hate replied to rabid hamster's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
short-term: lead a healthier life (3 meals, sleep before midnight, wake up before 6am, etc), start practicing hard (who cares if i'll get a BB or not ) long-term: get the club up and going properly (the club is really having problems with this and i may post this problem in a while), graduate from college w/ good grade (3.5+?), get a scholarship, further studies, get a good job. (very long term, no? ) -
which martial art is the most focused on kicks?
Ai Hate replied to SrDrew's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
this may be a bit out of topic, but still relevant, i think. what's the difference between muaythai and kickboxing? -
concur. there's nothing like seeing the real thing
-
my preference is to take just one at a time and be good at it.. (though it would be to take aikido along side karate.. interesting.. only if there were some dojo around..)
-
but that's the truly traditional and original!

Help I am addicted to Martial arts!
Ai Hate replied to Taokara's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
hehe. and i thought i was wierd.. you guys seem to use a lot of kicks, eh? i'm not too familiar with kicks, so i tend to puch everything instead. i'm trying to open a can with my fists currently.. wish me luck hehe.. funny story.. today, while i was on a bus, it got stuck in some major traffic jam (1 hr). i gave a seat to a lady, i had to stand all the way back home. i was thinking about my karate classes and the taikyoku takeuke kata (nekodachi+take-uke). and yeah, i almost did it! i almost did the kata on the bus! (did the hands, but not yet the stance) fortunately, i came back to my senses just in time.. or the people might've sent me to the mental hospital 100 meters away.. -
concur with bon. it's you who make it effective, not the MA you train. i think there's still a good debate between whether an MA should be kept as an MA (w/ traditional rituals, etc.) or be turned into a sport for popularity. of course, the ideal case would be a MA sport, but that's easier said than done.

i don't blame them for having the pride of getting the black belt. but i always view it this way: "the wisest is always the most humble" dog's that bark don't bite well, that's why they have to bark to try to scare the enemy away. if one is so obsessed by their present level, then they won't go far, for i believe true MA training is a life time training.. from another point of view, you don't need a BB to be arrogant. you cuold be doing MT and be arrogant. so it's just comes down to the individual. if they're a jerk, then they'll always be a jerk. say the taekwondo guys at my college (no offence guys). they go around boasting that they have a national team guy to teach them at the club. and they don't even know that we have a national coach to train us .. they're so arrogant they get so funny sometimes.. $.02

muay thai vs kung fu (2001)
Ai Hate replied to loco's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
hmm.. the new one? i didn't get to see that one. but i did get to see the one that was held in china (i think). i've never really seen kungfu fighting (or san shou? dunno), but it does look like muaythai with throws. da last guy who won was HUGE. the rule was a bit restricted to MT's though, since no elbows and knees were allowed to use (i think). i think it's quite unfair to pair up some MA with another in the ring as a sport, since each MA sport has their own rule, which the fighters accustomed to. so i don't think it really makes any point on what MA is better. it's just who won. $.02 -
favourite sports team/football/soccer/basketball, any sport!
Ai Hate replied to ad's topic in General Chat
football (soccer) - Arsenal, Real Madrid, Valencia, Japan , Argentina, England, Spain (national team) guess that's the only sport i really watch frequently.. but when it comes to the olympic games, i love watching gymnastics best. and maybe some boxing if my country's fighting. -
IMO, any MA can be used in real fighting if you really focus on it (train based on it). though some say judo or TKD is very sports oriented, i say it can be used in real fights too, if you're good enough..
-
this is the point. what's a better way of promoting karate than joining the olympics? if we could really maintain the fact that karate isn't just training to fight but also training mentally (as mentioned in the "kata is useless" thread), then there's really no con to karate joining the olympics. spinninggumby, i agree with what you said whole heartedly.

game plans
Ai Hate replied to Prodigy-Child's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
i say there is, when 2 fighters clash in the same time. actually, i don't think being a defender is all that bad. as long as you don't let the other guy hit you, then you're the one with the advantage. you guys do know how exhausting punching air is, do you? i do -
an advice on balance i was told: always contract your biceps. as that's the center of your body, if you could control it, then you should be able to keep balance. another thing is leg strength, i suppose. i mean, it is what you stand on, it's the base of all your movements.
-
hmm.. yes yes.. that's what i was taught too. when performing any kata, even the simplest taikyoku, don't just do it, you have to feel it. it's like you have to make up imaginary components, and fight with them. that way, training the kata would prove the most effective..
