The Karate kid?
-
You don't get what you paid for. Some people want to go thru the ranks quickly, they get what they pay for. But when promised a good solid MA education and you achieve that quick BB, you're in the "McDojo" and I hate that term.

Run. If you need to fight then fine, take out the biggest of the bunch. And I mean go nuts on him! The others will think twice and you can walk away. This is not a good position to be in.

American/Korean Tae KWon Do Tournament
MasterH replied to frightmaster's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
There are so many rules with so many orgs....... The org that I'm involved with we can score by touching, granted it has to be a solid hit, but stopping an opponent is not nessesary. Were you taught anything (hand) to the head? -

Clarification, did you go to an ATA tournament to compete or watch? I've written back and forth with you for a couple weeks now and I get the immpression that you're not that bad a guy. And I hope you understand, like it or not, the ATA is a very closed org. They do not allow outsiders into the fold. Including myself to some degree. I will never be kicked out of an ATA tournament, but I will probably never be invited, and if I show up, will never be allowed compete even though I'm an official ATA 4th Degree. -
I'm 18 with 14 years experience (32 years old) Recieved my 1st degree when I was 13, 2nd degree at 14, 3rd degree at 18, 4th degree at 27, and 5th degree at 31. Keep it up kid. You have a big future!

How many hours a week are you at your dojo?
MasterH replied to ShotokanKid's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I'm working toward opening my own club so I'm trying to spend more time with my 4 y/o before it all happens. -
quote] By Juniors do you mean lower rank? But older than you? Not really knowing your school or you personally please take the following in the spririt of good advice from a seasoned Martial Artist. 1. See this change as an oportunity. You may not be able to learn technique from the Junior Instructors but you can learn other skills that are helpful. I am also sure that you coud have technical imput into the lessons. 2. You and you alone are responsible for your training, you do not need an instructor there every minute of the day. So you might not learn as much as you did before but what is to stop you from reading, watching videos of other martial artists. 3. At black belt level you should be doing your own training outside of class everyday and then seeking out senior instructors for technical refinement and advice. I agree. What's you current rank? Work on lower belt material, as an aid for the instructors if possible. A great time to learn to lead.

Yea, that's a WTF tournament. They really can't score with a punch -

Was this an WTF tourn? What kind of rules applied? Any hand teqs? -
Make sure you get your instructors recomendations before making the investment. In TKD we have at least two seperate unique styles. I'm not sure if its the same or even worse in with H.
-
Do you have an open floor after class? Hit it for 5 minutes, don't wory about teq. just memorization. Can you film someone doing the forms for you?
-
Yes sir. Yet I always recieve mixed answers. I thought I'd ask the general public sense the "clasical music" (opportunity) thing came up.
-
I was always told it was a percussion instrument, the hammers hitting the wires. This has been an ongoing question in my music career for years. And both sides seem to be even.
-
Yes, but not the punch line I expected. So, here's a music question. Is the piano a percussion instrument or a string instrument?

Thanks guy's, now I'm craving McDonalds...........

I'm siding with TKDbill on this one. I was a TKD kiddie, I'm now MasterH to my TKD kiddies. Some of them are tougher than my meanest adults, they just learn differently. As for the games, kids want to have fun, that's how they learn. Adults learn by having fun as well, but an adults idea of fun is different than a childs. The games fool the child into learning good manners, the tennents, or whatever is the focus of the month. So, a strong kids program is a sign of a McDojo? I don't think so.

Why? You left me hanging.

why everyone hates Taekwondo
MasterH replied to white belt's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I don't know, as I said he died in North Korea. What he was there for who knows, he might have lost it at the end. I do know he was really into reunification of the Korean peninsula. No one, even myself, will get to participate in an ATA tournemant. And my parents are ATA school owners. You've been to an ITF tourn? -

Anyways, I'm still a member of a smaller localized org called the Hwa-Rang Taekwondo Federation. We get most the bennifites of the bigger org without all the hassles. But at this point with my rank I feel like a big fish in a small pond. Sometimes I wish it was the other way. -
What kind of band is it? HS marching band?

MasterH replied to white belt's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Yup, I heard dat! But with the big orgs you also recieve private well organized tournaments, instructor certification, a base curriculem (at least) fellowship with other martial artists, opportunity for advancement. The list of bennifits can go on and on, unfortunately so does the list of problems. -
