Problem with another martial artist (Updated)
jnpnshr411 replied to ShotokanKid's topic in General Chat
that's great to hear -
present yourself as a proud figure dont show any insecurity in the way you teach. Show that you are determined and that you can do what they are doing. don't let them take you as a joke at any time. I guess be a role model of what a martial artist should be and they will give you their respect. that's just what I think

Dealing with mentally handicapped children
jnpnshr411 replied to ShotokanKid's topic in Instructors and School Owners
fairfax, I think that if he should be treated like anyone else. If another student disrupts the class constantly he is punished. If this student does the same he will recieve the same. I dont mean give the kid 1000 push -ups but a few push ups wont hurt him and will make him get the message. And oftentimes students with mental disabilities tend to go into their own little world. there is a yellow belt with this disability in my dojo. I found that most students I can speak softly and they will pay attention and then he will start looking around and picking his nose. When I bring them up and speak in a louder tone he tends to watch more frequently and pay attention. Maybe it was unclear but I dont mean single the student out and scream at him, I would not do something like that. -

". He has control of himself" - kind of contradicts that he's mentally impaired -
I'm split on three weapons to choose from.

I would say the bo. I dislike the Tonfa, maybe b/c I dont know how to use them much. -
I have seen competition between friends to be great. Usually it drives the students to work harder to get ahead.

like everyone else said treat him like anyone else. If he disrupts then punish him. After doing some knuckle push ups he will get the message. And you have to speak loudly to get his attention. -
Well wrestling seems really helpful. Now im really excited cant wait until school starts!

Well since I have not done any wrestling ever I have to say that I dont know exactly what they do besides take each other down. And I have a question if anyone knows, Who/When/How was this form of wrestling created?

2 videos up for analasys!
jnpnshr411 replied to fighter_not_a_lover's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
that video is hilarious. The only reason he intimidated the other guy was b/c he was the same age and taller. Had he been a smaller opponent he would have been destroyed. I think this guy just started to take MA b/c I dont think anyone with a good idea of fighting will do that low in a stance and then when the punching started he lost all form of technique it was just wildly swung punches and he got lucky. -
before the weapon is pulled out you dont know whether he has one or not. And the weapon is only dangerous once he pulls it out and begins weilding it. So why wait until he pulls it out, i like to assume that every opponent posseses a weapon so i need to take him down before he gets a chance to get any worse. (not necessarily death)

"weight; 18 stone " not to offend anyone but I thought this form of measuring was gone. I saw it the other day on the military history channel. It was used to measure the medieval foot soldiers armor.

"Get a degree in Exercise Physiology from your nearest university. You'll absorb a million different facts that have not much use in real life except the odd internet post every now and again." lol !!!

I hear that laser removal also hurts alot. -
"As has been said, while not a direct diuretic, alcohol does cause dehydration. It also lowers the level of CSF (Cerebrospinal fluid), which gives you that lovely banging headache the next morning. Your brain floats in CSF, and when you drink heavily, the level of CSF goes down, allowing your brain to lower as well. This places stress on the brainstem, and makes it easier for the brain to bump into the skull, both of which pretty much hurt." Wow I have never heard that before

well school is going to start shortly. Do you guys think that taking up wrestling will help my MA skills any?
