Wow! Near perfect kata (video)
jnpnshr411 replied to ArmorOfGod's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I don't think anybody's trashing her nor do I think anyone dislikes her performance. Rather, we're just pointing out that what she's doing isn't really martial arts, but really a movement art related to martial arts. Her hard work and skill is duly noted here. But for fighting application, it's not really martial in nature. Respectfully, Sohan I see your point and it does make sense. I understand that it does not exactly fall under the word "martial." I am also not a fan of flashy kicks and stunts. They can promote good physical health and stamina but that's it. -
I dont know if a Gracie academy is the best place to train, but from what I have seen their fighters dish out and take, I'm fairly certain that they train students very well BTW: I have always been under the impression that only black belts open schools and are head instructors. It may be my own misconception, but can anyone enlighten me.

One thing I dont understand. How do you let youself be taken complete advantage of without lifting a finger! I agree with DeadCell my school would send those with their tails in between their legs. GKR could have taken this matter peacefully to court, If the contract was really valid. Are not martial artist supposed to avoid violence? which they could've in this case.

14 Year Old Brown Belt Girl in the News (story)
jnpnshr411 replied to ArmorOfGod's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
your sohan. It could have been really tragic if this guy had a gun -
I think all you can do is teach them the best you can. But when it comes down to it you cant stop every student from misbehaving. Once people reach teenage and adulthood they have their own way of seeing things and its not easy to change.

Wow! Near perfect kata (video)
jnpnshr411 replied to ArmorOfGod's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I have an opinion on this, For those people who dislike what she and others like her are doing. While alot of people enjoy real fighting/sparring and prefer a more traditional view of kata, they are still working hard at their own sport. From what you can see she is definately not pursuing a fighting career in MA or looking for self defense. She is a competitor and or that I dont think we should trash her -
any new yorkers in suny albany or suny famingdale?
jnpnshr411 replied to Maddwraph's topic in General Chat
wel i visited SUNY Albany I will be attending there this fall. I can tell you it is not a very green campus, alot of concrete, the buildings are not too attractive, the dorms are small. Being a public school classes are going to be big. However, they have one of the best Criminal Justice, Journalism, and Nano Technologies majors. It is a big party school and can be very fun. Even though it has some bad attributes I think the good outweighs the bad (as long as you dont mind a very concrete look- Im from NYC so i can deal) -
I dont any eleven year old should be judging anything and not wearing a black belt definately not.

thanks so I guess what I saw was incorrect. So does anyone happen to know a good bJJ preferably, or any good MA schools around tha Albany,NY area.

The Measure of a Captain
jnpnshr411 replied to isshinryu5toforever's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Isshinryu I completely agree with you. But if some other black belts are on the team I guess they would see it as an insult to their rank. Others that dont understand what your saying might be saying to themselves. Why is this _______ belt leading those black belts. I guess it's something of keeping an image more than anything else. -
This august I am leaving for college. I am going to Albany, NY. Somewhere online I saw that there is a Renzo Gracie academy up there. Now I know that he has one in here NYC. But is it true b/c I want to continue with training even though this is not my style but at least I know the training will be tough.

injured groin for a month? you might want to talk to a doctor

It lets you know how to react to many attacks, as long as you understand what you are doing, and how you are being attacked.

Unless there's something mentally not letting them pass to another level, I would not think of passing them no matter how much time they last, it means their not trying

alot of wrestlers are football players in the fall so they are mostly joining track, they convinced me to join but I still want to continue my training. If anyone knows a place please tell me. -
Unfortunately my wrestling season is over . I would love to continue, does anyone know of any good freestyle wrestling/ grappling schools in the NYC area that don't cost a fortune. Im not the best wrestler but I have found something that I love.

recently i was sparring of the students I help teach. He is pretty big and while sparring him i noticed that i had lost alot of the power in my legs . I have been so busy with school and so many other things that I have been neglecting alot in my workout . What excercise does any know that can really do alot to my legs. I know that after some real excercise I'll be back in no time. thanks alot in advance btw: does anybody else feel that there life interrupts with their MA life?

Im an assistant instructor. I have made mistakes. I think when things become confusing within 5 minutes Ask your sensei, then if the assist. tells you something different, tell him that "sensei said to do it this way." the most he can say is that he will check with sensei. When that has been said to me all i respond is "do it this way just for now". sometimes sensei has corrected me and other times I have been right after class when i discuss it with him.
