hypothetical weapons tournament, what would you use?
Anbu Alex replied to alsey's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
the spear thats the only weapon i feel really proficient in ooo no the shinobigatana lots of hidden places for weapons and the hadle usally have a hidden blade and sometimes the blade is a saw -
ima tall guy with long arms and ill tell you reach has its advantages but with close fighting if you only have reach youy are dead, i was lucky enough though to have friends who were shorter and my current sensei who taught me how to fight a shorter person (my first kung fu would drill me into being able to fight a smaller person) i will say still today i fear the shorter guy but im better suited due to training than other guys my size or taller, i just recnetly noticed that.

Anbu Alex replied to BLueDevil's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
lol tea thats true -
if u do a general serch for ninja or a book by Hatsumi soke or Tanemura they usally have info on it im just telling u what they told me in japan i dunno if it was true or not cause also shinobi wore mask in the image of tengu to scare the opposition

Anbu Alex replied to kzshin's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
the fight scenes were awsome Jet li did a good job simulating the style (Lost Track) a really good story too -
well at one point ppl in japan had myths that ninja were decendent of tengu cause that they had "magical Powers" and could "fly"
-
yea shinobi = Ninja they just have different meanings at times in ancient japan ninja's we even called tengu

I just remebered a time i was doing Muto dori (unarmed against a sword) with a friend and due to training with the weighted chain i was ables to use my job id that has a littte like rope thiningy on it to tie his hands up out of instinct non the less we were all schocked if you do think about it and train your body will naturally see anything is a weapon
-
the pole arms made me drool so cool yea that was a great show yea with my friends who do other weapons arts play/spar its weird they started before me but im taught and trained in more stuff so i have the advantage that freaked me out
-
well the reason higher ranks do randori and lower ranks dont is because thay dont want people to get hurt and they have a better understanding of the techs so they known how to take the fall.... im not totally agreed that because other grappling arts have randori that they will always lose sometimes the best ppl doing even spar against other arts and randori is a controlled situation where as a real comfrotation is uncontrolible im not knock randori i just say to each their own

what martial arts book should i choose
Anbu Alex replied to masterintraining's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
The Unfettered Mind was written by Takuan Soho. I highly reccommend this one. It is good for people who think too much . The book of 5 rings is another standard that all should read. Also don't forget the Art of War. This book is not just about strategy but human nature and I find it amazing how undated its concepts are and how it still applies today. yes thank you i like to mention the Grandmasters book of Ninja training by Massaki Hatsumi its different cause its just a bunch of conversations with him and his senior students pretty kool, oo and another one is kung fu for girls it has nothing pretty just brutal techs lol -
Pressure Points - mystical or basic biomechanics?
Anbu Alex replied to Jiffy's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
well i think there are ways to look at it there arepresure points, blows that do outside damage and blows that strike 3in in to the body all thre are effective but each has their place pressure points in my oppinion are more about body compliance and having a good understanding of the body in general. Outside damage (like broken noses, busted eyes etc.) in more about training and doing it hard to naturally hit those outside vital points.(personally i perfer this) and thenthere is the aiming 3ins (musashi talks about punching thru the opponent) which requires training and accurate understanding of the opponents body and your own and like the second one is faster more reliable cause hey you miss by a inch there is still also a chance to do outside damage but can be paifull cause its unexpected that getting hit like that would hurt but like i said each has its place against a trained person u want to have other options than just pressure point fighting (not that i think its bad actually i like the idea) or a person who senses are dulled by drugs but this is my opinion and by no means i am an authority -
Thanks Bushido Man me and other friends from my dojo were very interested in it after watching about it on the history Ch it showed me my ignorance on medieval martial arts i remeber one time i was sparring with my friends one takes kenjutsu another took kendo it was so fun we all learned something
-
i totally agree with that fully the thing is martial arts were not always with buddhism it just so happens that the two coincide with each other and compliment each other very well other martial arts sometimes blend with other religions, some CMA go well with Taoism, Some Japanese with shinto i dont think its necesarry but on a fundemental it's about violence but on a higher level its about not fighting cause there is no reason to so like y2_sub said i think the spiritual and mental values are the same

Anbu Alex replied to Regulat0r's topic in Martial Arts Weapons

this is gonna sound like a crazy question but can they take good hits with the bokken cause lately ive been destroying Bo's (guess my cutting is getting better) and my sensei gave me the hw to look for a good place to by bo's
-
well in japan its a common place when greeting a person or saying bye you bow but its usally slight i think it depends on the culture in my dojo it depends we do more of a japanese we r friends bow

Anbu Alex replied to joe divola's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
Maybe your instructures are trying to leave your training more in your hands so u can figure it out for yourself causing you to train harder -
