  1. Yea, there's a Tim Hortons about a mile or so from the dojang. I never tried their coffee, but I'd be game to try it next time you come up And there's a Montana Mills Bread Co in the city of Canandaigua. They have pretty good coffee. And of course, the ol' stand-by, Dunkin Donut across the street from the dojang LOL. Not much else though, other than Wegmans coffee shop that makes espresso and other flavors.
  2. Proforce. I wish my school would use this brand
  3. I think I know who you are talking about, too. Well, when I do just the advanced classes (Mon and Wed) this person isn't in that class. So I get to have fun Almost everyone spars hard in that class (except for the youngins, that is).
  4. LOL. Hey Heidi, we must go out for coffee one day then The coffee snob twins LOL
  5. I don't know really (I didn't get that far there). My instructor did have trouble finding the sizes that he needed. I am going to train there in two weeks when I visit NJ. I can ask for you.
  6. jarrettmeyer, I agree. I spar how my partner spars. I pretty much know how everyone spars at my dojang, and what the level of contact they can take. But when a male KNOWS I can take a shot, and he doesn't hit me at all, that's sad. He can take hard contact as well as me, so why wouldn't he fight back? Because I'm female. It's very sad. Like aefibird said, pairing up with someone who isn't prepared to hit me or to train realistically isn't helping me at all. One of the instructors is a 3rd dan and he knows I can take a shot! We had a blast sparring the other night (eventhough he "creamed" me LOL).
  7. I still have my TSD uniform (gi). It's old but doesn't have holes (it's white, though). I love that uniform. It's the only one that fit me perfect. Anyways, I agree with what was said. If it's a little faded, that's fine. But if it has holes, get a new gi
  8. My TKD school has: white orange yellow green purple blue brown red high red prov. black then black My old TSD school had: white orange green blue brown purple red 1st red cho dan bo (dark blue belt) black The kids had yellow before orange. The adults skipped yellow.
  9. I used to drink it when I was a teen, but after having the fresh ground stuff, I got spoiled LOL (spoiled brat I guess LOL).
  10. Thanks for answering I also trained a lot the first year in TSD. 5 to 6 days a week LOL. So I kind of know where you're coming from
  11. OMG!!! Old thread, but really funny I don't have a problem with guys hitting me you-know-where accidently. When I did Judo, it happened a few times. But it was by mistake, so I shrugged it off. What I hate is when guys won't hit a female while sparring just for the fact that they are female There's someone in my dojang that's like that. It's martial arts, dude. Get over it. I'm going to hit you, so you better fight back And about the time-of-the-month thing, I couldn't stop laughing hehehe. I don't train when "it's" heavy. Only when it's light LOL (the girls know what I'm talking about LOL).
  12. Eeekkk I hate instant coffee also *barf* I'm going to sound like one of those "coffee snobs" but I buy the beans and grind them myself (well with a grinder that is LOL). And it can't be the cheap stuff either. Green Mountian coffee is my fav. I had it in Vermont (where it is made) during a camping trip, and I loved it. I had to search all over NY to find it, though. Now the local grocery store sells it .... YIPPPEEEE!!!
  13. Not counting my training in Tang Soo Do (1 year, 3 months) .... I've been training 3 1/2 years in TKD. I'm still a red belt (2nd gup). If all goes well, I will be testing (FINALLY ) for high red (1st gup) in July. But then again, I'm in no rush. I have a lot of techniques to clean up (in my opinion). TSD Y049, how'd you get your BB so soon in TSD? My old TSD school, it would have taken 4 years IF you tested and passed every test, and regularly attended classes. Most TSD schools that I know of are also like that. I'm not slamming. Just curious.
  14. *Raises her hand* I love coffee. I prolly drink too much also, but not as much as strangepair03 LOL. My max is around 5 cups, depending how tired I am during the day. But I usually drink 3 most of the time. As far as the age thing, I started drinking coffee at age 14. I'm 30 now. I don't see anything wrong with it.
  15. I totally agree with this (weird coming from a TKD person huh? LOL j/k). I practice all my forms, at the least, three times a week. In order and out of order or I will pick one form that I want/need to work on. If I'm trying to figure out a move or work on technique, or bunkai, I will do that part of the form over and over till I'm fairly happy with it. Even lower rank forms. Then I will do the whole form over and over. I still practice my forms from TSD once in a while, also. They have cool bunkai in them Anyways, like it was already said, it is important that you practice ALL of your forms.
  16. I don't do XMA, but I did learn some of the moves before I hurt my knee. I did join a XMA forum, but I haven't been there in a few months (my knee screams everytime I attempt those moves now LOL).
  17. My old TSD school, the dans had a white top with black trim. They had the choice to wear white pants or black pants. Most of them chose black. It's probably not traditional, but I liked how it looked. Maybe it's a girl thing wanting to wear black pants hehehehe
  18. Congrads to both you and your "better" halves hehehehe. My honey and I train together as well. He is about to test for prov BB (same thing as cho dan bo in TSD) in April I'll be testing in July for 1st gup. Thruhiker, I agree. Not many couples train together. It is cool when I see that, because I thought we (my honey and I) were the only ones sharing in the passion of MA's. Tang Soo!
  19. http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=18862 Appendixh22 did ask in the Korean arts forum. So I'll close this one. Thanks.
  20. Modesty is the key
  21. I have to give the guy credit for trying. If the show truely showed how much he tried, it is a lot. He knew his kicks sucked, but he went for it anyways. He was a white belt twice. So was I (not in the same month). I give the guy credit for perseverance. I don't think I would go back to white belt now, but for "deflating ego" purposes, I would right now. I would wear a white belt for two weeks just for that fact.
  22. I'll move this to "Getting Started" section. You'll get more help there, and more people from different types of Martial Arts to answer you Anyways, I agree with fangshi. The instructor is more important than the style. You don't need to know anything about martial arts to know if he is good or not. Go with your gut feeling (or your parental instinct ). You'll KNOW if he/she is not a good instructor for your children. Your best bet is to go watch as many classes as you can at different schools.
  23. I realized I liked MA's when I saw the Karate Kid movies at age 11 or 12 (dang I feel old now LOL). But my dad watched the old Kung Fu movies when I was younger. My family couldn't afford to get me lessons, so I ended up getting into music first (age 14). I played drums off and on till about age 25. Then I lost the spark for playing. (I still play once in a while when I visit friends in NJ). That's because I was finally able to take martial arts. I had a job back then that I thought I needed a little "self defense" skills for just in case. So I finally started taking martial arts at age 24 (Oct 2000). As they say, the rest is history
  24. Na, it's the first I heard of it. Maybe I'll do that when I hit BB (if I ever do ... it's seems like it's taking for ever ). Ahm!!! Does this look familiar Laurie? Mastery comes not by being better than everyone else, but through being more persistent. - TangSooGuy I thought so...just checking! Yea, I'm kinda doubting it now, but yea, I think I see your point.
