  1. I wear the Discipline hi-tops
  2. My current Kempo system I study was developed in the State of Hawaii. The founder of the system was Professor William Kwai Sun Chow. Kara-Ho Kempo focuses on self defense first, to that end we learn numerous self defense sets. Unarmed/Armed self defense, to 2 and 3 man multiple attack self defense. We also have katas, and weapons katas. We also incoporate Ki principles in all the techniques that we learn. Our movements can start out high, it can start out low to the ground as is evident in our katas. As you progress in rank, your overall movement is suppose to be fast and fluid. Your always in constant motion never being in one place for to long a period. We learn high, low, and spin kicks. We use all kinds of hand strikes...plenty eye rakes. Blocks just like eveyone else. Sparring pretty much like everyone else. There's also breaking, although I have not seen it taught per say, and I don't teach it. This is just a short rundown of the system I study.

  4. Hi Beka, Welcome aboard Is your art of Vietnamese origin?
  5. https://www.ki-international.com Or how about Tokaido's other line of gi's? The one not maufactured in Japan, but in Hong Kong or Taiwan. Still supposedly has the Tokaido quality at a lesser cost.
  6. If your inclined later down the road, I know that the JKA has a series of Kata videos out for sometime. They are the originals that were narrated by Nakayama Sensei, and translated in english. Tsumnami video carries them I know, but so do other places.
  7. I had the same problem with the new bb that I got, very stiff, and wide. Was uncomfotable to wear, let alone tie with a gigantic knot. Anyway, only 2 ways I know to soften your belt, time or washing. So the choice is yours
  8. Just watched The Rundown, starring the Rock, and Seann Williams(aka: Stifler). Pretty good action packed movie. Good opening fight scene, and then there's the one between Rock and Reyes, Jr. in the jungle. In that fight scene, there was a mix between Muay Thai, Capeoria, TKD/Karate, and even some jujitsu. Overall it was a good movie in my opinion, and have added it to my DVD collection
  9. Where the head goes, the body must follow

  16. When you use the 3/4 punch, you get better bone alignment making for a stronger punch.
  17. I learned Matsu Higa no kon when I studied Shotokan, and did weapons with a Kobudo insturctor. If memory serves, I don't know of any moves where you jump, or throw the bo. I know there are several spins behind your back. There may be several versions to this form that I am unaware of, as I'm not well versed in the Kobudo arts. I was told as well that this form was considered an upper rank, maybe even BB rank weapons kata. I've also been told by others that it is a mid-level weapons kata. So it probably depends on the dojo and their syllabus. Whether it's all of the kata or part of the kata, be glad to receive it as early as you have and just work it until you feel comfortable with it. Good luck
  18. Never had one of those, but did own one of the Flexmaster's by Century many years ago. I liked it at the time and thought that it helped me regain some of the flexibility I lost.
  19. To defend is one thing, but to fight is another. From the sounds of it, you have been placed in situations where you've chosen to fight, albeit involving your girlfriend. The best weapon at your disposal is your brain, think of other alternatives instead of violence. Train in MA for the sake of avoiding conflict and not the other way around. Stop picking fights, but at the same time don't cower down to the school yard bully.
  20. supergroup7, you've made a really good point in regards to the testin process, so it does have it's uses. as far as the on-going evaluation of any student, and then promoting them w/o the formality of a test, i can see this done perhaps after 1st black.
  21. howdy
  22. Are you referring to the hand wraps, and ankle supports
  23. I have did the search but was looking to ask direct questions. Next best thing is to contact the organization directly if you get no response.
  24. I would say in traditional karate it is more 50/50
