I went to a Shaolin Kung Fu dojo, in Colo.Springs. and they did have a belt system. Now grant it was run by an American. Personally, I wear a blue sash because it matches my kung-fu outfit. It should be up to the school as to belt(s). In Ninjitsu (traditional) we do not wear colored belts. Unless it is to match our gi. White=for snow/winter gi. Camo belt=camo gi, etc. The reason we wear colored belts is for the occasional tournaments. Train hard guys !! MonkeyNinja

After reading the post from KoreanTiger and all the replies, reminded of the same stuff we ninjas are going thru. My instructor, asst.instructor and I all went to a local Ninjitsu class to learn more about them. Learn their style, system, and just have fun with local ninjas. Well, my instructor was told that she has to start as a student. Not even a white belt. then she could test for white belt!!! She has all the credentials, cerificates, diplomas, etc. to prove that she is Black Belt. but they treated her like was unworthy to wear it. Now get this it was the same style as us, just a different name!! I don't know. I hate politics. I just like to train, fight, learn and teach. Grow and be the best NINJA I can be!! MonkeyNinja

I would have to agree with Yoda, and some of the other guys/girls. Smaller classes is better. Because you can give more attention to your students. Size of the dojo? Shouldn't matter. I teach and train, I kid you not, at an elementary school playground. Why? Well, I was looking for relatively quite place to train. I have much of a yard to train. So one night, about 3yrs. ago my buddy and went to this playground and just had fun. Now I have 5 students, and lots of kids in the neighborhood come over to watch. Even the local police stop by and watch us. No problems. I do one day hope to get a place downtown. I have found several places that would be perfect. But the rent is at times outragous!! Especially in the historical district. MonkeyNinja

Why don't most noses bleed when hit?
MonkeyNinja replied to Che Guevara's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
If a strike hit's the side of the nose, chances are that the nose wont break or bleed. A good straight punch, jab or even a hook to the base of the nose or even near the tear ducts can cause the sinus cavaties to bleed profusely. Now smoke can cause your sinuses to dry up, and become weak, thereby causeing nosebleeds. Same with dry climates and even higher altitudes. Techno Music? My guess is that the vibrations coming from the speakers could rupture small capillaries in the nose. Even loud bass sounds can pop ear-drums and even(in extreme cases) rupture the heart!!!! Man, I know tooooo well as to what your talking about. I very rarely see a standard Martial Arts comption on tv., even cable. Guess they think we are too violent or something. It's strange though. They play football, hockey, and nascar all the time. People have died in these events. How many die or get permanetly injured in kickboxing or martial arts compitions? 1 in 2.3 million. How many die or get seriously injured in those other sports? 1 in 15!! Maybe all of us on this board need to email or write to our local stations and need to complain about it!! It might help Monkey

My best advice is call upthe local schools and see what they have to say. I know of a couple of guys who do fights thru there school. Like the one last night, the fights was in the school. Starting your own orrg. is a great idea. just make you get sanctioned thru a state or local M.M.A. commission before. You can run a renegade deal. BUt the insurance would be a b***h, for it. Plus local laws might not let you do it without insurance and a license. Snoop around, get info. then fight!!! Hope this helps. Monkey
