favourite sports team/football/soccer/basketball, any sport!
tigerstyle18 replied to ad's topic in General Chat
It's funny, other than Martial Arts, I really don't care much at all about sports. Except for weightlifting but that's not a sport, but an interest. -
believing is an act of free will. Our purpose on earth is to choose God. He cares what we do because he loves us.

I'm just suggesting that if a group so desires that they can pray publicly. That goes for all religions.

"God, why do you allow violence in schools?" God: "I'm not allowed in schools" Thoughts? Opinions? Reflections?

uh oh, this sounds like TKD_McGee is making a Jurassic Park argument. One with which I actually agree. I know that when issues like thishit close to home opinions change but I just wanna address a few concerns. Assuming we're talking about clones, would this new person have a soul? In engineering humans aren't we "playing God?" It all seems like a pandora's box of problems waiting to happen.

you're right Iron Arafat, way more is needed to be a SWAT officer. However, getting a degree in Criminal Justice is a good step in the right direction. Hey muaythaidm, I'll ask my friend tomorrow and I'll try and get back to you on that as soon as possible. SWAT sounds so cool, I'm actually having considerations about changing my major from Finance to Criminal Justice. I probably won't though. A business degree goes a long way. $$$ _________________ When two tigers fight, one dies and the other is mortally wounded. [ This Message was edited by: tigerstyle18 on 2002-04-12 23:14 ]

judo vs bjj
tigerstyle18 replied to bjjbarbie's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
okay, now I'm confused. What is an "uber"??? Sorry, I'm just being your typical ignorant American I guess. Although there's probably alot of southern California slang that you English and Aussie people aren't used to hearing. Eh. Whatever. late... -
BJJ Belt Requirements
tigerstyle18 replied to YODA's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
yeah roundhouse, that sounds right. I remember hearing something similar to that. I guess those extra belts are just like "junior" ranks. I think it's a great alternative to giving black belts to kids who aren't ready for that responsibility. -
My name used to be Dragonstyle18 and now it is tigerstyle18. Just letting you guys know about the change and that the two names are the same person. Late....

judo vs bjj
tigerstyle18 replied to bjjbarbie's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Reasons similar to that is why I almost never compete. The one who wins isn't always the best fighter. I've lost matches on technicalities such as points. Oh yeah, and for the record, BJJ dominates Judo! Hahaha, sorry Judo people -
Hey Jack, I wish I could be there to help you. I'm 6'1 and 205 pounds which is muscle mind you not fat. Sorry I'm not there in England. I would if I could. I just thought I would add that to complement the post put up by "ad" with his height and weight. HAHAHAHA!!! I'm sure it will turn out ok.

A friend of mine is training to be a swat officer. He's majoring in Criminal Justice. That idea seems so cool to me. He was telling me briefly about the combat training involved. Is this type of training taught in other places besides for the police. I would like to learn it. Better yet, I know this guy who'se a Navy Seal. That would be awesome to learn how to fight like them. So anyway, again, does anyone know what exactly the styles are taught and who is good at teaching them. Thanks!!!

It sounds like if there is a fight he is gonna bumb rush you with everything he's got. I would recommend sparring with out kicks so you get more comfortable if he gets in real close. Also I have no idea about stones as a means of measurement. sorry, hope what I said helps. If a fight does occur. Be like a tiger, man. Come at him aggressively and don't let up til he's down. Godd Luck!

Female Rikishi (sumo fighter)
tigerstyle18 replied to KENSHI's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
why would they do that to themselves? Dude, in Japan these guys are like heroes. They get so many women. -
Hey Jack, how old are you two. About how much does he weigh and how much do you weigh? I'm curious on the size. Also I'm American so if you could tell me in pounds it would help.

Do you use weapons?
tigerstyle18 replied to rabid hamster's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I take a kung fu, jujitsu hybrid style which might explain why we do train in weapons. We teach nunchaku, sword, bo, sai, ext. I don't know about modern pure jujitsu schools teaching weapons. -
Hey, I love Australia well at least the part that I saw. (I spent a couple weeks in Sydney). Maybe not the best representation of Australia but it was still fun. My name is Bryan, 18 and I live in America, in San Diego specifically. Welcome to the forums. I'm relatively new to them too. Have fun!!!

depending on what the style was, I don't think I would have any problem joining a school run by a lower dan. I know this is a korean MA forum but in BJJ, even a brown belt is of great knowledge and experience. I would trust someone like that. My current instructor for shaolin kempo is a third degree, fyi. He's a wonderful instructor.

Kempo vs. other
tigerstyle18 replied to tigerstyle18's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I'm already very familiar with shaolin kempo. If you know anything at all about any other form of kempo/kenpo and how it compares to traditional karate feel free to share. All information is welcome -
The development of chi or ki is supposedly developed through dynamic tension.

Thanks Yoda, I'm gonna start taking BJJ from Fabio Santos in San Diego. The info is much appreciated!
