  1. my most embarassing moment that i can remember (or choose to tell) was at a tournament i thought i had another hour or so before i had to do kata but i forgot about the time zone change so my watch said i had an hour...so i drank a diet coke (i kno i have a bad diet lol) and diet coke makes me have to burp and so in the middle of my kata i went to kiai and BUUUURP and i couldnt laugh or anyting but i had a goofy have serious half smile look on my face the rest of the time
  2. Presentation of a kata is important as long as its not taken over board ex: rolling, flipping, dancing into the ring...basically anything along those lines A very sharp looking walk in that is professional and pretty is usually a good presentation...also timing is KEY when it comes to presentation without timing kata alot of time can just look like nothing and is quite often sloppy...but with timing katas can look VERY sharp
  3. NAME:Kyle RANK: Shodan STYLE: Shorei-Kai
  4. i think all kicks are effective it just depends on the time of kicking you are training if you have certain type of kick you can make it effective it just requires a lot of training time -kyle
  5. the BEST fighet of alllll time is BY FAR WAYNE OTTO he is by far the smartest and greatest fighter to every live....other GREAT FIGHTERS from around the world and the best out there and alongside wayne otto possibly the best ever are JUNIOR LEFEVRE, ALEX BIAMONTI, GEORGE KOTAKA, DANIEL SABONOVIC all of whom have very different styles of fighting, and ideas but are allll AMAZING!!!! and they all have they're favorite techiniques and things they are the best at...for instance JUNIOR LEFEVRE is an ALL AROUND GREAT FIGHTER he is a GENIUS in the ring and can adjust easily to different situations that may occur inside the ring, he is especially good at different kinds of kicks defensive and offensive, the reason he is my fighting idol alongside wayne otto other than his smarts in the ring is because he won EVERYTHING there was to win by the time he was 22!!!! he won the EKF championships 3 or 4 years in a row not only in his weight class but also in open division and he has won the WKF World Championships once and has medaled two other times i believe, he has won every MAJOR european tounrment there was and has defended his title in just about all of them by the time he was 22!!!! After winning the 2000 WKF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP he chose to retire at the age of 22 from regular competition he still competes every now and then but realized that after winning the WKF World Championships along with with every European title he had nothing left to prove and did it all with a GREAT DEAL of HUMILITY....which all of these great fighters have and is what makes them the greatest because even though they have all won numerous amount of tournments and are basically unstoppable they never take it for granted and work hard day in and day out to take their skills to the next level....ALEX BIAMONTI is GREAT at sweeps and knowing how to expose his oppents weakness, also he has won the WKF World Championships both in individual and team kumite....GEORGE KOTAKA has the FASTEST reverse punch both offensive and defensively he is amazingly fast and has beautiful timing also he has won the WKF world championships once and medaled i think 3 times?...and DANIEL SABONOVIC is and OUTSTANDING fighter he has medaled in every competition he has been in since 1999 he has a very unique fighting style and is always adjusting and getting the point using his legs and hands equally to keep oppents guessing
  6. If you are doin point fighting there is no reason you should stop by or close to there face at all what is the point in that ya kno? the reason the judges dont call it is because you didnt snap it back fast enough go and inch away from the face and snap it back quickly and you will more likely get the point than if you throw it and hold it there that is why judges are no calling it. in point fighting they want to see speed and power with control so go to the face fast and instead of holding it there snap it back fast....hope this helps
  7. I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH isshinryu5toforever it is not traditional karate at all and not traditional karateka would ever try or that stuff and still call it traditional. A traditional karateka might do it for fun but prolyl would not take it seriously. A Traditional Karateka is able to defend themselves and a lot or most styles of traditional karate believe in staying grounded not flipping through the air. XMA is NOT for TRADITIONAL tournaments it is more for a gymnastics meet. No traditional karate would ever do some of the things they do in a TRADITIONAL tournament or in a fight i just honestly think that that stuff is not martial arts in ANY SENSE OF THE WORD...i also am not a big fan of some of the open tournaments out there but i will discuss that at a different time and place.
  8. To some degree i do agree with what you are saying about being predictable. However i feel that as the game changes especially with the rules being the way they are and favoring kicks so much that the fighters will soon become less and less predictable. Due to the fact that as the younger generations come up they are doing and getting better at kicks. With the generation that is in WKF right now they are for the most part still overall sanbon fighters they have fought with sanbon rules their entire life so therefore they do mroe punches then anything FOR RIGHT NOW. But with the rules favoring kicks and punches only scoring a maximum of two points (you have to take down and score) the fighters in the next generation will still mostly do punches but kicks will be atleast 35% of wat they do but the generation after them will prolly be closer to 50%-55% kick and only 50%-45% punches because people will want to score faster and easier. That is why i think this generation of fighters is some what predictable i think that the way people fight will change over time. also on a side note yes George Kotaka and Elisa Au do reverse punch very often but if it works why stop??? George in my opinion has the FASTEST reverse punch out of ANYBODY right now and i dont think any one for a long time will be faster than him when it comes to defensive and offensive reverse punch or reverse punch leading blitzes. his blitz is so incredibly fast it doesnt matter if you kno he is going to do it or not he will catch you with it and he will score FOR SURE!! Also George has THE BEST timing of any one that i have seen right now the only other people that would rival him are Junior Lefevre, Alex Biamonti and Daniel Sabonovic and a couple other fighters but all those guys are VERY VERY WELL established in their careers and have nothing left to prove George and Elisa also have NOTHING to prove to ANYBODY!!! anyway the point is that who cares if you are predictable as long as you are the fastest at what you do cuz if your the fastest you will still score even if some one knows you are going to do it.
  9. Shobu Sanban rules go as follows A HALF-POINT punch to the body punch to the head and face kick to the body (sidekicks dont usually score on offense) ridgehand to the head (scores sometimes but not always) A FULL-POINT kick to the head a good clean defensive reverse punch a defensive sidekick (not always but a lot of times) good hard defensive kicks to the body in general a foot check followed immediatley by a clean punch or kick to body or head a sweep/takedown followed up by a scoring technique PENALTIES anything to the groin NO CONTACT TO THE GROIN too hard contact to face or head going out of bounds holding on to an opponent for to long (such as holding their gi to try and score) that is pretty much the basic for SANBON kumite if you have any questions feel free to ask -kyle
  10. alot of point fighter champions for handpads use adidas, tokaido, kamikaze, or proforce. Because they are light and very very comfortable. Most do not wear headgear but macho has good headgear. For shin pads the adidias WKF style shin pads are by far the best.. Hope this helps
  11. the best way to fight is what feels natural to you...if u feel more natural with your front hand up and back hand down a lil bit then do that just do what feels good to you or you will end up not fighting to your full potential because you will be focused too much on where your hand should go just do what is comfortable for you
  12. My style is Matsomura orthodox Shorin-Ryu
  13. The WKF championships in mexico were AMAZING!!! The U.S.A. had a great showing with Elisa Au taking two gold medals in kumite. She took her weight class division and the open division. George Kotaka also had a great showing even though he didnt win for the second year in a row i have a feeling he will win in 2006. John Fonseca did absolutely PHENOMINAL!!!! He took a bronze in his weight class and definitly earned it. He is one of the hardest workers in the WKF. Alex Biamonti from france also did a great job taking a bronze medal in the -65 kg division. Congrats to the U.S.A. and to everyone who participated just getting there is an accomplishment in itself!!!!
  14. The stuff the best in the AAU,NKF, and WKF wear are the ADIDAS hand pads, and shin pads. But these are mostly used in traditional japanese or okinawan tournments. The best also use different gi's for different events. For kata wear a heavier thicker gi and for kumite use a lightweight almost gorderoy gi. The best gi manufacturers in my opinion are ADIDAS, and KAMIZAZE. If u need any other suggestions just ask! hope this helps, kumitekyle187
  15. If you are looking for tournaments in new york u might want to check out the AAU website https://www.aaukarate.org
  16. I am currently competing i have been competing for about 9 years now (i am 16) the kata i used to run most was seiyuchin, but now i mostly run kusanku-sho, rohai, and seisan. I still however run seiyuchin and sepai if i feel i can win with them. I run shorin-ryu katas. (except seiyuchin and seipai but its a looooong story)
