Me too. I think MMA has helped show that this is wise for anyone fighting someone of any style. I also believe in training in street clothes. While I respect the traditions behind the gi, I think its time has past and present day realism is the best way to go. Another intriguing training scenario is having someone be accosted while getting into or out of their car. Trying to fight from a car seat against a car jacker, for instance, presents some unique challenges. Escaping to or from underneath a car is also difficult. Having one or more additional persons in the car who may or may not be trained adds complexity, particularly where children, infants, or older folks are involved.

USCMAAI, it's great to see so many military combat arts strategies and tactics in here! This is good, good stuff that has applications across the spectrum of potentially or actually hostile scenarios. I've always maintained that this sort of education is as important as technique practice, and even more important than kata. Welcome to the forums, by the way.

Great job, USCMAAI. Perhaps you can use the simulation techniques some of us have mentioned on other threads for your last "real situation" phase. Have your students come into a low-lighted room to face unknown "assailants" who use unknown or unbriefed techniques. You can darken the room as much as you like or the student can handle. Perhaps add loud music and a "crowd" of other students like at a club. This scenario can present some stress to the student and allow them to demonstrate techniques after "failing" to deescalate a confrontational situation, while keeping the real danger out of it. Combat effective!

Excellent! Great form. You are obviously very comfortable with tonfa. Two tonfa, even better. Good job. -

Nope. And I suppose you're really cool if you mutter "checkmate" before you knock him out. -

Kinetic chess, baby. You heard it here first. -
Huge day. Lots of heavy lifting. I found a leg machine I like at the gym. Squats today to 400, as high as it goes.

I'm guessing Chuck Liddell wouldn't mind taking on one of the current crop of boxers to see who wins. I think boxing is fading and being replaced by football and MMA. MMA needs to clean up the tattooed street fighter mentality and become more professional if it hopes to supplant boxing, though. The money and the Olympics won't come until it does.

Great points. We try to be non-violent and resolve situations amicably. Barring that, we seek to do the minimum damage required to resolve the situation in our favor - proportional response. But when it is time to kill in defense or self or others, you had better have decided that you will do so with every ounce of your being and not stop until it is over. Then, do it well and with a lethality the ensures the outcome. And then tell the authorities.

Why risk injury in training for such a thing when you would never use it in a real fight? A flying kick is telegraphed from a mile away, and very easy to dodge. -
MA shoes. They work great and you can still feel the floor.

Been working! Truthfully, I was spending a little too much time here and neglecting some other tasking. I'll try to strike a better balance.

Another good day at the gym while my kids had swimming lessons. Chest, back, abs, arms, and glutes/legs. I finally remembered to bring my weight belt so I could lift heavy legs. Been too long! On a side note, my Discipline MA shoes work great in the gym as well. I have found wearing them while I work out is helping to break them in.

Hey, congrats on the digital purple belt, Marie!

I'll bet your wife didn't mind that at all, Bushido Man.

side kicks in MMA

Good points. You could also convert a shin block into a side or push kick, thus closing distance and changing from defense to offense with a pivot while chambering. -
Good stuff. I like your signature.

Wrestling and BJJ

Grappling and wrestling now, though... I'm a little old to like being bent like a pretzel. It has taken some getting used to again. -
Those look perfect for Muay Thai.
