My First Fight
baronbvp replied to Symphony-x's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Nice job. I had my first KB fight not too long ago; wish I had video. Mine was full contact and went for one two-minute round without stopping. Can you tell me why they kept stopping yours, other than for the headgear adjustment? Was that for point sparring/resets? -
More snow and ice last night. I'm ready for spring!

I read, listen to music, hike, and watch The Weather Channel. I also lift weights, but that is more of a fitness thing than a hobby.

You hit fairly hard and get your kicks high. Try using that shin bone instead of your instep for the weapon on your round kick. You may like it better - more Thai-like. Keep it up and welcome to the forums!

Have you read "A Fighter's Heart" by Sam Sheridan?

Here's a video of his interview on Jon Stewart: http://www.ifilm.com/video/2828327?loomia_si=1 -
How would you like to be the guy that runs the quintessential McDojo used as the model of how not to do it?

Concur. If the players don't see the writing on the wall with respect to character and off-field conduct, they are missing the big billboard.

Great spirit, Bushido Man. "I did x until I couldn't do x anymore, then I did y." That shows heart.

First Night Of Boxing
baronbvp replied to cross's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
One thing my JKD instructor noticed the first night was how often I cross my feet. He said it was a good way to get my feet tangled, although I don't recall ever having done so. My MT instructor never mentioned it. We could probably all use work on our foot...work. -
Maybe I should have gotten a tattoo of a guy getting a tattoo.

Do you find it different from other MA? Wider stance? -
What do you love most from martial arts?

There you go! -
Yep. The work and travel schedule, including periodic social obligations at night, is pretty busy. I doubt I'll have much of a routine, but if I can get a school that will work me in when I can come, it will be great. I will need something to keep me in shape.

Seattle keeps signing tight ends and Jeramy Stevens just got a DUI in Scottsdale, AZ. Time to push that unrestricted free-agent birdie out of the nest!

Ah, very good! You would make a fine Black Knight, Bushido Man: http://youtube.com/watch?v=2eMkth8FWno. "No man shall pass."

People with tattoos are better fighters.

Great post.

What do you do exactly, if you don't me asking, that allows you so much MA time and working out, but makes you work at night? Are you a LEO?

Copy all, Bushido Man. I miss the composite motion leg machine we had on the ship. The leg press on my home gym is a little hard on the knees, but I still use it. I just don't lift heavy like I used to. If I lift, I get sciatic pain in my left hip and thigh which can slow down my stretching. It's a big balancing act. Glad to know that it isn't hindering you, though. Makes me think I should just stop WHINING!

What are good exercises to improve hip rotation?
baronbvp replied to baronbvp's topic in Health and Fitness
I also do some others, including some from Sang Kim's Ultimate Flexibility and Bob Anderson's Stretching. I just need to put in the time. I have a sciatic nerve issue in my left hip and leg that I work on a lot. -
danbong, I have some very good friends who went to nuke school as O-6s like me. Even for them , it was all about the pain. Good on ya for surviving it! Very well put, lordtariel!

I agree. Are there any karate systems you know of that base belt advancement purely on fighting ability in full contact sparring, and not on ability to execute memorized kata? I believe that's partly how western kickboxing developed (separate from Muay Thai). That's why I left karate for KB.
