  1. I have read a lot of people say, side step then kick. but would you kick into their kidneys or lower back or legs or upper back?
  2. Im really looking forward to my first test/grading. Do a lot of people look forward to their test/grading?
  3. I think the JKD i am learning is JKD concepts. Can you tell me abit more about this?
  4. Great article brilliant read. I feel i can relate to you as MA has given me more confidence.
  5. I have read countless times in these forums that JKD is a theory. Can someone explain, in lamens terms, to me what they mean by this. JKD is a MA that you can learn. I thought theories are in the mind or on paper. Not something that is put into practice day in and day out. I am new to all this so nice and easy for me thanks.
  6. I was 15 when i started (december 2004) and now i am 16 (20th January) and i do really wish i had started this before i reall really enjoy it its soooooo fun.
  7. BTW i have read this on my intructors history page on a website: "Mel has practiced various Martial Arts for over 25 years. He is a certified instructor under World Famous Guro Dan Inosanto in Kali (Philipino Martial Arts) and Jun Fan Gung Fu (Bruce Lees Martial Arts). He is a Certified level 3 instructor under Sifu Rick Faye of the Minnesota Kali Group U.S.A. He is also authorized by Larry Hartsel (who is one of the late Bruce Lee’s original students) to teach his methods. Mel's most recent achievement was becoming a coach in Combat Submission Wrestling under Sensei Erik Paulson, the World light heavyweight Shoot Fighting champion." Is this good?
  8. Oh ok. Thanks you guys you've been a lot of help.
  9. Well this shake i have i am using to give me added vitimans protein and other stuff i would normally miss out on. Im still eating my other meals just having a tasty strawberry flavoured shake inbetween.
  10. But there is a rank/level/certificate in JKD called phase 1. I am right about this because my instructor said i would be taking my phase 1 test at end of feb beginning of march.
  11. JKD (other)
  12. Well i have just baught a weightloss shake. A supplement for a meal. Im planning to drink this in between meals in the day because im wanting to put a bit of weight on. This shake is full of vitimans/nutrients that i probably miss out on anyway. Is this a good idea?
  13. Sevenstar what work out on the arm builds explosive power. If not pushups what other thing could you train at. Could it just be punching the air trying to do it hard/faster each time?
  14. I notice how he thinks he is a "gangsta" yet he never smashed the driver's side window where he could have seriously hurt the person inside. Ye he is a dick, pardon my language for messin the car up yet he would probably run if she had whipped out a double barrel shotgun.
  15. Well i have no flase preconception of what JKD is because this is the first time i have seen/experienced it. JKD is probably a better martial art for me because i can be taught many techniques punching/kicking/submission/trapping/grappling and choose the ones that i work best with and use them. This is how i undertsand JKD. Back to my question about JKD ranks and so on. 8 you say hmmm number 8 for bruce lee my challenge is to take that rank Does anyone know what these 8 are called and are they like phase 1-8. Thnxs.
  16. Thanks for explaining the background. JKD does not have blets as such, they have phase 1 and 2 right? Well what other, if there is any, more ranks/ceritficates is there in JKD?
  17. In my class there is only like 8 of us. He shows us whatever it is we are doing, we pair and then he will go round to each pair watching us for a min and then tell us and show us where we are going wrong.
  18. Do i put my hand into a fist position and then do them to do my nuckles? BTW should i start with 20 push ups a day and then increase after a few weeks?
  19. Well thnx for explaining it more. Yes i thin we are taught in the Dan Inosanto way. Does JKD not have an advantage over other martial arts then? Seeing as you learn different styles within it does this not allow you to adapt to other people's style of fighting.
  20. The talk of JKD being a philosophy goes waaaay over my head. I don't know alot about martial arts (yet). But i was right in saying that JKD is a mixture of many arts e.g kali, wing chun, jun fan, silat and Muay Thai. If i am wrong please correct me i wouldn't want to get wrong information.
  21. Hello im new here. I started Martial arts a few weeks ago. I goto martial arts once a week (thursdays). On sundays i like to do touch rugby.
  22. I like the dojo. Just the right environment.
  23. Two questions: 1. JKD i practice this martial art yet i don't know how it is spelt. Jeet kune do OR Jeet kwon do? 2. JKD is a blend of many martial arts right?.
  24. Would this be a protein full meal. Tuna sandwhich with banana and milk for a drink. I don't like the sound of all those blended together probably be sick trying to drink it Is it best to eat/drink protein full stuff after training or all the time?
