I would prefer the girl with the t-shirt and jeans. The girl with the mini skirt doesn't appeal to me really. Ye sometimes they can look good but i wouldn't see em as potential girlfriend material.

No what WapCaplet is saying is, people should not take up martial arts to start fighting, they should start it to be able to fight. Not to initiate fights. Yes martial arts is primarily learning how to fight but not to start fights.

Dream girl, Dark hair, brunette. Eye colour i like dark brown. Dominate cheek bones (specific i know) tanned/pale no preference. Nice body. Intellegent, funny. There is a girl like this and when she looks at you it makes you lose track of what you weere thinking. I said she looks like the cat in "Shrek" when it stares with it's big dark eyes. I think i like this girl. (sigh) If you have read the thread "Do nice guys finish last" im a nice guy and i don't think ill ever get with her. Thing is, when i have no attraction to a girl i can charm her quite well but with this girl when i talk to her i get quite nervous and my mind seems to panic mouth drys up and i muddle my words up.

Dating. I think simply a girl wants the "nice guy" as the friend and wants to "bad guy" as their boyfriend. But when seing the "bad guy" blows up in their face they always come running back to the "nice guy" wanting support when the "nice guy" would never of treated the girl like she is just an object. If a "nice guy" tries to get a girl it will take longer then it would a "bad guy". Plus being a "nice guy" by nature comes across to the girl as really friend-like so they will not see you as a potential boyfriend they will not see your have emotions for them. Damn thats some serious appostraphy(sp) making.

My sig is a passage i like "Stercus Accidit" -- "Sh*t happens". I like this motto, A rugby player legend was speaking and he said, "People say i have been lucky in my life, the funny thing is the harder i worked the luckier i get."

Boxing VS. Judo
Cmon replied to ravenzoom's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I would say the judo. If the judop guy didn't know about the other one being a boxer i gues he would be able to tell by the boxer's stance. But deffinately the judo guy. But in a street fight with a random person i would say the boxer would have an advantage. But the judo wouldn't be at a disadvantage in a street fight from having done judo. -
I went on the website of my school. And it says on the front page: Kali Jun Fan Martial Arts JKD Concepts.

JKD Belt ranks.
Cmon replied to Cmon's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
We do. But we are going to have something to represent rank because some people have been asking if we could. -
I have learnt two basic trapping moves. And we have done kali stick drills. True it all depends on what the lineage of the instructer is. I deffinately know we include trapping, stick fight, boxing, muay thai, grappling and other ones i do not know a lot though i have only been on the MA scene for 2 months . Oh btw i got my first test at end of this month "You're looking good but make sure you are sharp." Thats what my instructer said to me.
-
lol, if i was you i would ask the instructer about this, he/she is the one who will know best what they are teaching.

JKD Belt ranks.
Cmon replied to Cmon's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
See i think it would be a better idea to do something like that. My sister suggested having different coloured bandages around your fist to represent rank which i thought was a pretty cool idea. -
Im from England, Lancashire, Wigan. Yes i do have a lancashire accent i like it!

Really good read. I think you point is good. Martial arts is not just for the point of becoming an awseome fighter. I personnaly took MA to become more confident within myself. I think it is basic instinct in humans especially males to be able to protect yourself and those who you love. When i go to my classes i enjoy learning the art and i have been taught that in a fight always run first fighting is the last resort, once you have the opportunity to run ...run. There is a difference between learning a MA to be able to fight and learning an MA to be a good fighter. Yes i could just do boxing for a year and be able to fight, beat my opponent to the floor and break his skull. But becoming a good fighter i would be able to defuse the situation quickly.

At my dojo we have no belts or any way of showing rank. I was wondering if any other JKD dojo's do it differently if they have some way of showing rank? My instructer has come up with an idea that we could have like a miniture belt sawn on our club t-shirt to show rank. I don't know whether JKD strictley doesn't have belts etc but i think he has decided to do this because some people have been requesting something to show rank.

Yes you have to find your own way. Every martial artist will have to find their own way. If someone tries their hand at judo and is not good at it they will move on try something different. Bruce Lee was a great mover, fighter and martial artist, whether he was the best is debatable. He selected the parts of many martial arts that worked best for him and throwing aside all those bits that do not work for him. I am personally learning JKD and i think that i am being taught all the techniques that a great fighter etc thought worked best. Granted not everything i learn i will be able to execute with ease, but the bits i can execute perfectly and with ease i will use. But what i do execute still comes under the tree of JKD. I wouldn't call this "my" JKD because it is still what Bruce Lee had chosen to be effective. I hope this makes sense.

Well i wouldn't know what the grappling is whether it was shoot or not. Is there any real difference between shoot grappling and the others?

I confused by this story. Why isnt ashley allowed in the tournement is it because of the relationship with tom?

Ok ill read off my shirt. Wing Chun (nearly Forgot) Filipino Martial Arts Panantukan Jeet Kune Do Grappling Jun Fan Martial Arts Pananjakman Kali-Silat Boxing Muay Thai. Similar.

Ye Rank i am also taught from a direct Inosanto lineage and the way you are taught is very similar to me. I could name all the arts that are listed on my club t-shirt but i can't remember. But there is a wide range and you basically choose your style but you are taught them all. Best to have em all in your armoury ey?

A warrior in battle such as a soldier has to do very unhonourable things in war. To call someone a coward because they would not lay down their life for someone else because it goes against their beliefs is wrong. Because at the end of the day we are all human.
-
I think it would be harsh to call someone a coward if they didn't "risk his life for another". It would be foolish to "risk his life for another" if there was no way of helping it would only worsen the situation. But it all depends on the situation. But i do believe it is right to stand up and fight for what you believe in but with courage can come foolishness and a fool is no good to anyone.
-
erm, well personally i have done a range of things in classes. But i wouldn't say this is the main focus. I think someone who knows a bit more in general would be able to asnwer.
-
I Think mine is this. Bruce Lee --> Guru Dan Inosanto --> Mel Corrigan --> ME! Im not a 100% sure but im pretty sure that is mine. I gathered this info because of this " Mel is a certified instructor under World Famous Guro Dan Inosanto in Kali (Philipino Martial Arts) and Jun Fan Gung Fu (Bruce Lees Martial Arts)." Wouldn't this make me a 3rd generation Bruce Lee student?

In addition, like Chiflow said make a scene. if he grabs hold of your shoulders and starts pulling you say something like "STOP TOUCHING ME WILL YOU, GOD ANYONE WOULD THINK YOU FANCIED ME!"
