  1. Well that because Wayne Otto is a Karate God!!!!
  2. Ok yesterday morning. I went to the gym and did squats, lying leg curls, calf raises, stiff-legged dead lifts, and calf press. After work I went off to train first to the Dojo trained Shotokan Kihon waza for about 45 min, and 45 min of Kata. I really needed that Kata training since I have really been letting that slip lately. Then I went off to my other gym, did some BJJ worked various triangle escapes, then about a 45 min roll.
  3. Ok I decided to start throwing in my hat. Yesterday I went to the gym before going to work. I am working on a six day a week, 5x5 split routine. So yesterday I did Upright rows, close-grip bench press, and preacher curls. After work I went to the training gym. First up was Judo, we worked on Tani-otoshi for about 20 min and then Koshi-guruma for about 20 min, then Randori for another 20 min. Then went on to train Muay Thai. Did a standard warm up of stretching jumping jacks, running, and shadow boxing for about ten min. Then we worked on using a Teep to set up roundhouses for about 30min, then finally about 20 min of sparring. After Muay Thai, I trained BJJ for the last hour. We worked on butterfly guard, and butterfly sweeps for about a half hour then, got to do about 30 min of rolling. Then I went home and died.
  4. For Karate the gi is always white. Sometimes I wear a traditional cut Karate gi, or a kumite gi. Once in a while when I am pressed for time I will wear the pants from my Judo gi with a karate top, since I usually go to Karate right after Judo.
  5. I must admit that I pull from the front forcing my shin towards the ground.
  6. Well now that we all have established that Gyakuzuki is one of the strongest techniques. Now for the debate of the century, heel up or down? I prefer heel up because it allows me to achieve more hip rotation.
  7. Sometimes, I let him, get his shots in and say he was to quick. I do not want to destroy his Cuban ego every time I see him (even though it is absolutely hilarious), but 9 times out of 10, I'm not that nice because he can be such a pain in the behind.
  8. Speed come from your legs and hips. Rotate your hips more on the punch and focus on getting your feet towards your opponent faster. The hands will always catch up with the feet.
  9. Shotokan 19 years: Yondan Judo 6 years: Nikyu BJJ: 5 years Brown belt Muay Thai: Two years of training in
  10. Never, unless I am in the company of someone else who enjoys martial arts. Unless I am with my father in-law who is a big, big boxing fan. I love to debate with him what is better. Sometimes even physically, being that he used to box. It is the only time I can double leg him, and go for a submission ,without my wife or mother in-law getting mad at me.
  11. I remember when I used to compete in WKF tournaments. Some judges let you go all out, and some took the rules to heart. What I did was, in WKF competition it is very hard to get penalized for going very hard on the body or from the head down for that matter. So I aimed a lot of my head shots to the opponent’s throat. It did not score as often as a face shot would but they landed enough to affect my opponent, make him hesitate to engage. So I could work more scoring techniques.
  12. Awkwardness will always be a part of training, you will never feel like you fully know what you are doing, or you are not doing whatever good enough. You're martial art will never feel spot on. That’s just part of the fun always trying to push yourself to do better.
  13. To fight Lyoto Machida. Yeah I know he just lost, but I still want to fight him.
  14. Do not plan on anything, just react. If he does this then I do that is the surest and fastest way to loose. Also do not plan you're attacks either. Just react if there is an opportunity to attack then attack. If there is an opportunity to counter than counter. Just go with it and roll with the punches so to speak. The main thing to do is to relax. Good Luck
  15. When you browse through the KarateForums at you're work.
  16. Without our misfortunes, or even our fortunes, all of our good memories, and bad, this is what makes us who we are our essence is in our memories, without our memories we have no identity. It is possible to change who we are by learning from the bad, but our essence will always contain even the bad. So embrace you’re misfortunes and learn from them. If you can not learn from them at least, learn how to deal with them, our ethos is all we have.
  17. The majority of Japanese Karate styles are very similar, maybe some variation in Kata and stances. It really boils down to the training. However the training could vbe very diffrent in the same style comparing dojo to dojo.
  18. Based on that picture, I would say the counter is the biohazard that is being unleashed on the attacker.
  19. The difference is closer to that between french vanilla ice cream and vanilla ice cream, really. It's a Korean martial art that also happens to descend very directly from Japanese karate, and the similarities far, far outweigh the differences. I say this as a current student of both.".Same but still diffrent. The techniques are the same, but it is all in the theory, the way its trained, and apllication.
  20. Stay away from videos. You need a live instructor for feed back, as well as class mates to work with, and to help each-other. For what art to take try all the arts you are interested in, then decide which one you like best, and are the most comfortable with.
  21. I would love to go up against somebody wearing a single weave gi. Much easier to grip. Although Im pretty sure gis are not allowed, shoes are not allowed, nor are t-shirts in many sanctioned events.
  22. Thats why until late, I used to keep my mouth shut , or should I see fingers, in this forums. Now that I am getting older I'm starting not to care, and express my opinions more.
  23. OOOhhh Shawww!!!!! Seems to be a trend right now, in the WKF. Honestly I feel that a Kiai should come from the gut as you are tensing and relaxing your core. Any thoughts?
  24. Because, some people cant accept change. Oh well, at least when I go to Karate I do not have to decide what color Gi should I wear today.
