First Chris 3 dude becareful of the knife techniques if you are not a knife fighter, some of the things taught by non-fighters are pure dangerous as if the knife wasnt dangerous enough. I am a concept trainer i look at many styles and pull from what I feel works for me and what I believe will work for others and having trained in indonesion and chinese if feel they are the most effective, for me anyway, but dont put much faith in a pure TKD instrutor to lead you properly in knife defense, you are better off running.

Defending yourself with a knife!?
street fighter replied to GhostFighter's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Wow such passion and from so many directions. A knife is a serious weapon and should have good sense in control of it but when you can no longer avoid and have only one choice choose life and kill the f'er if you feel your life hangs in the balance. Always try to avoid beyond that survive and never underestimate. Come on guys dont get to touchy feely for the bad guys, if hes trying to fight ya more than likey the accident could be you dieing why take a chance. -
Defending yourself against guns from a distance?
street fighter replied to a topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Dont quote me but at 10 feet and inexperianced shooter can still miss and probably will, remember he is nervous too, i would say run and not in a straight line. Now if he is a pro sorry for you bad day. Also look at where his trigger finger is at, it is a good bet that if it is in the trigger housing he is most likely an amature and that is another reason to be scared but in your favor he most likely is not used to putting rounds on target. RUN -
Here I go again preaching the blade. Knives, pocket knives, short sticks like the kubaton or bolo, knives are scary but so is the thought of death, short stick are great if you can fing a good instructor for the weapon, it is a very effective tool for defense, aggression, and destruction and the least likey to look scary in the eyes of a jury or judge, but lets not forget we have to survive the altercation in order to make it to the judge and jury.Pocket sized is great but you must first find a real instructor who understands the real situations.

A bit of info you may not be aware of and if you are it is not meant as an insult. There are some forms of staff fighting that require and large or thick hardwood staff, from some of the spanish influenced islands such as the canaries you will find a system called Grote e Mano which uses hard blows and block and tripping or upsetting of the balance. Cool but can be rough on the hands. Just thought i would throw that in , good day

hey cool blade but be careful with the carry of such a knife, it could be considered to be an illegal weapon in some if not most states.

What kinda weapons you looking for, traditional or something more useable in todays society. Some of the indonesion systems employ weapons, hand to hand standing and grappling and transfer quiet readily to the real world but, as i said what are you looking for, it might be a problem boarding a bus with your kwan doa,(if i spelled that right) but traditional training has its merits as well its all in what you fall in love with, for me street survival is the way but with out the traditional folks my world would be smaller and my techniques less.

Hey i wanna train with that guy, his weapons deployment was like greased lighting, slippery butter geeez i dont know quiet how to discribe it now. He is obviously a professional combat handgun instructor.

Hi yall, just wanting to hear your thoughts on knives as defensive weapons and the laws that will most likely attack you after a defense with an edged weapon. Please understand im not talking about swords, im talking about pocket and smaller fixed blades. Thank you.

As i have stated on other post the weapon you have in hand is always the best, but for me it is the good ole pocket knife, its there, its sharp, and i know how to use it simply because i train with it. If you have the opportunity to train in the indonesion arts and with its varying length weapons you learn ranging and body and foot work which will transfer into most improvised weapons you may come across in street situations. Knowledge is power, fear will keep you alive and aggression will when the day.

my favorite weapon is the one i always have, pocket knife. 1" to 5" blades are wonder workers if they are needed and employed and deployed properly. no one like cold steel or the thought of cold steel entering the body.

to answer the question from my point of veiw is that JKD is best studied for its effective concepts of fighting and also its beliefs. good is never good enough and always look for the good in others things, or in this case systems and styles, take what you can use and discard the rest, Bruse was great because he was open minded.

A great fighter is the one who will continue to rise no matter how man times he may be knocked down. Its not the dog in the fight its the fight in the dog. -

whats the deal with the quotes. as far as an edged weapon for defense i think there is none better but heres the but, you better get proper training in edged weapons or alittle blood can turn into a lot of blood but expect some blood when dealing with sharp objects. Peace thru Power -
