why everyone hates Taekwondo
Sam replied to white belt's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
AS i have always said - its more down to the way you train - there are only a limited number of ways of using the attacking tools your body has, ... its more about teaching the methods, and strategies and training hard.... -
never had a problem - mostly because before i started instructing i was by far everyones junior - now im in equal age ish with some people im teaching - so im not interested....think theres a REALLY [11 pagesish] long post on this

ok so long as money isnt involve - and everyone consents... and it is done of private property and causes no disturbance to anyone else - there is actually no crime.... Either way, They're no such a great idea as you can come off with loads of serious injuries.
-
yeah - i wish people would stop quoting bruce lee there.... bricks dont hit back - but thats not the point of the exercise - pressups dont fight you but they're still worth doing.... Breaking is an exercise in control adn conditioning [in some cases] with or without spacers..... I have a question since we're on the topic - Has anyone broken with a backhand strike? [hand flat, using the whole of the bakc of it - like a pimp slap hehe]
-
yeah life would be seriously less fun adn fulfilling
-
I actually cross train... but my majority [by a LONG LONG way] is TKd, so thats the style i list.... becuase at heart im always going to be a TKDer
-
yeah - you have your general costs assosiated with the school and MAs in general.... but then you can get all the other things - termination fee for contacts, leaving fees in general, etc. etc.
-
I like someone who trains hard... not too worried about feedback etc, my main criteria is that they work really hard, encouraging each other etc.

Defense against School Scuffles
Sam replied to ShotokanKid's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
yeah but thats slightly different, but in essense i agree - there isnt a huge amount schools can do about bullying in the long term -
good advice would be to lay down soem ground rules before you start trainign so they go in with open eyes and no one gets hurt from not understanding what will be required of them....
-
soft - redirection, non-direct force against force. Hard - interception, direct force agaisnt force.

Aikido In The Army
Sam replied to jedimc's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
no it seems he was an instructor - and now is teaching it within the military -but it doesnt make mentino of a military USE for it.... that was my point - just cant tell if they're using it as a hobby for off time, or actual trainnig. -
ok then i bow out to your more extensive knowledge of him.... would you saythat counts as a general rule? or was there something specil about tyson?
-
also to point out - isnt a palm heel strike done with an extended hand [fingers arent bent]?
-
yeah thats usually how it goes - ITS YOUR FAULT!!!! hehe I agree that a lot of arts are actually incompatible.... for me though the ideal would just be adding grappling work to TKD.....
-
are they side on - or do you strike downwards?
