  1. Re; sparring I’ve trained at three different gyms for boxing/kickboxing and it varied depending upon the trainer’s preference and the skill level of the fighters. This is how I like to spar. Full speed, half power. Instead of targeting your opponents head, hit anywhere on his arms. If your opponent is successful with a block then his arm is hit, if he fails at the block then his arm is still hit, avoiding any possible concussion. If you hit him in the shoulder say and he didn’t do a block to stop it, you can consider that a hit that would have gotten through in a real fight.
  2. Thanks for the reply Master Jules. It seems to me that looking for a joint lock in a street fight is a bad idea. But if the guy just gives you his arm, then you could dislocate it and if that didn’t work you would have to then strike him into unconsciousness. Or to put it another way, focus on grounding and pounding and take the arm if it is offered to you but be prepared to return to the pounding.
  3. The Metzger works on lower body (waist) attacks too. To defend step deep between your opponent's legs and push with your hands on his hips, this will make it difficult for him to lift you, and then do the Metzger as usual.
  4. Hello Nick I spelled Metzger wrong, sorry. Here is a link that shows the Metzger. http://www.themat.com/coachescorner/technique/farsidemetzger/default.asp
  5. Try to escape. I learned how to escape from a pin in Wrestling and Jujitsu. From what I know about Judo and BJJ, they are good for learning escapes from pins too. To avoid going to the ground you must win the clinch. The above mentioned arts are good for learning how to win the clinch. The two most common ways that people will try to put you on the ground are; 1) The shoot. The best defense against the shoot is to sprawl. 2) The bear hug. The best defense against the bear hug is the meztger I learned the sprawl and meztger in wrestling. Sometimes people will grab your clothing to throw you down on the ground. Judo and Jujitsu are good for dealing with the clothes grab.
  6. Master Jules that is amazing! It hurts just reading that. Would it be fair to say that joint locks are fine as a pain compliance technique, but in a knock down, drag them out brawl they are of limited use? What do you think the percentage is, that an ARM lock will end a REAL fight
  7. Hello krzy
  8. Hi Evan
  9. Bonjour
  10. Hi HanSword
  11. Hi JJ
  12. Why don’t you see single and double leg take-downs in Judo? Not that I’m complaining, I’m just curious.
  13. I’ve never used a joint lock in a street fight, only in sparring. Here’s my two cents worth. I agree. I agree. I agree. I have tapped people out with locks on the ground during sparring, but who is going to tap out on the street? I don’t know how a dislocation will affect someone pumped up on adrenaline, fighting their hardest. Has anyone dislocated a joint on the street?
  14. I can do only a few throws and of those throws Uki Waza is probably the best one for the above scenario. Pics of Uki Waza can be found here; http://www.judoinfo.com/techjudo.htm Do you think Uki Waza is a good throw to use in this scenario? Do you think there is a better throw than Uki Waza for the above scenario? I didn’t use Uki Waza because I didn’t know it at the time. This is how the fight began and ended. The first blow was thrown by me. I landed a few jabs and a cross (none by him), THAT’S when he latched on to me. This guy sung me around in a circle so hard; both my feet came of the ground (I too was holding on to him tightly). I guest he lost his footing and we both fell to the ground, but with him on top and in the mount. It took me a couple of seconds to bridge out. I got to my feet (he was still on his knees) and I grabbed two handfuls of hair and began kneeing him in the face. Then this is when a really big guy (he could have twirled the both of us around) broke up the fight.
  15. I think boxing and wrestling go together like ham and eggs. But I’m bias because I boxed and wrestled. I don’t know anything about weapons.
  16. Good for you batman2, keep kicking butt and sticking up for yourself. Don’t become a bully though, bullies aren’t cool.
  17. I voted for other (head). I believe the adage that you fight as you train. When I train I hit head size targets, focus pads, double end balls etc. Also I read that when your heart rate goes above 120 beats per minute you lose fine motor skills and are only left with gross motor skills. So the head is about the smallest thing that you can target reliably in a fight.
  18. Not Jujitsu but this is a good site for Judo which is very similar. http://www.judoinfo.com/techjudo.htm
  19. Since I’m still looking for a club, I shadow box these combos in my home. Stance is Left foot lead; 1) Step, jab, cross, left hook, right cut kick, step 2) Step, double jab, right hook, left cut kick, step 3) Step, left lifting elbow, right horizontal elbow, left horizontal elbow, right straight knee, left swimming elbow, right lifting elbow, left horizontal elbow, right horizontal elbow, step And when my wife feels up to holding the focus pads for me; 1) Right forearm block, jab, right hook, left cut kick 2) Right triangle block, jab, right hook, left cut kick 3) Left forearm block, cross, left hook, right cut kick 4) Left triangle block, cross, left hook, right cut kick And with kicking shield; Shield wall, cut kick
  20. Hi Patrick KF is a nice board.
  21. That is so right on, were you watching?
  22. Thanks everyone for the warm replies. Sorry for not being clear, I meant to say that I am a blue-collar worker. I’m unemployed at the moment.
  23. This scenario comes from one of my fights. You are in a street fight with another guy who is the same build as you, but 3 inches taller. He grabs you by your clothing pushing and pulling you and trying to swing you around in a circle. Yes he is stronger and your clothing holds. What do you think is a good Judo/Jujitsu throw for the above scenario? What do you think is a good wrestling throw for the above scenario? Of the two throws which is the better one?
