I recently switched my kiai from the old AAAAAAAIIIIIEEE!! to a kiai that a great teacher from the Philippines used. I only do this as a quiet kiai and i've heard my own sensei use this quietly. It goes something like this- ah-sho!
let them hit you first but block. then you can haul them in and get them busted for assault after you use "self defense" and beat the living daylights out of them.
Try one of Gichin Funakoshi's books... It's a black book with a sculpture type picture in the front. All the pressure points are listed and illustrated as well as a description of what happens when you strike that area.
What would be a good technique following a take down if you're the person on their feet. It's harder to punch then and to kick or stomp them..... that might be a penalty. If I do kick, what should I use?
of course my training has helped. It taught me to get away when I could and avoid. I have had people do all kinds of things to me but the important thing is that I didn't show my pain. Their victory is seeing your pain.
I agree with you gojuchad! flash is trash... however, it's a good way to impress people but has no application in a real fight or with a person who knows what they're doing.
