  1. I am my dojo's only black belt that is under 16 (I'm 14) I play an active role in the dojo, and I am going to write an article for my dojo newsletter. I would like some ideas. I already have a general idea but I'm writing as an "encouragement for the youth." I would like some advice on how to get my messege out. Thanks, Have a good day.
  2. Kata
  3. Somebody told me that chewing gum can give you heart disease. Can somebody explain this to me?
  4. If a lower level tells you you're doing it wrong when you're right, make them do pushups
  5. I think carrying guns is a bad idea because in a confrontation, if you pull out a semi-automatic arm, an officer is more likely to fire at you instead of your attacker.
  6. I'm not sure but a friend of mine always strikes to the forearm about oh, I'd say 10 cm or so below the elbow and this makes the arm jerk and then kind of paralyzes it. It leaves a lump and temporarilly makes the arm a little bit useless
  7. On the forearm, there is a specific nerve. Where is this and what is the best way to strike it?
  8. white yellow orange blue green purple brown black
  9. For those of you who looked at my other post, I did work with her on Monday. She really is improving, especially her kicks. I told her she was improving. It's so much better when you have a better attitude about it.
  10. Thanks everyone -attitude re-examined!
  11. Looking over all these posts, it really made me seem like a jerk. Sorry that I acted too hastily, I can get extra help if needed.
  12. it is a problem for me however because I doubt she will be competing in the tournament and I will. I need to improve and there is an orange belt her size who is more than willing to work with her. I'm asking how to approach the teacher not if I'm a sporty tournament person.
  13. Now its about 25 -40 and for my black belt test it was something along the lines of 150 I think.
  14. Thanks again to all who contributed to this thread and those who have encouraged me.
  15. It's tough. As a 14 year old, I can't help too much but just to say that grab sleep and money whenever possible and do everything in a neat organized fasion. The more you do, the more time you have to do stuff with. Hope I helped, GOOD LUCK!
  16. He kunta kinte that one's awesome I wonder how many kids injured themselves after seeing that. Awesome wall flip too.
  17. I was born in Kyoto and moved to U.S. when I was young. I speak Japanese though I have been forgetting because I do not spend a lot of time there. Everyone in my immediate family speaks Japanese.
  18. I just use deodorant. Cologne is too expensive for a kid like me.
  19. I love that part with the magazine. I don't think it would have as much effect as his foot, which has a longer reach. The part with the pen is pretty good but I like the part inside the U.S. embassy when he throws down the guy.
  20. It's usually like 75 a month for us but I am an assistant teacher so that cuts my bill in half.
  21. I am a young Shotokan black belt (14) and I attend Friday night classes which for my dojo is usually smaller and taught by a less experienced teacher. Whenever we are told to pick a partner, the teacher always makes me go with a woman who is an orange belt. This is doing neither one of us any good. I want to partner up with a bigger stronger partner. It's like this: Sure you can kick a Jack Russel Terrier but can you kick a Pitbull? I want to kick the Pitbull. It's not doing her any good because I always overpower her and it's not doing me any good because I'm not being challenged. I want to talk to the teacher about this but I'm not sure how to phrase it. I am starting to get frustrated as I can't pick my own partner and especially since our tournament is coming up, I need to improve. How do I phrase this? Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.
  22. What is the most important things to get a lot of for a 14 year old? What vitamins, etc. What should be avoided? Thanks for your input.
  23. Very true. Usually, nobody plans out there techniques but go when they think they can score. Like people say, don't think of style vs style but person vs person.
  24. It's a very difficult technique to pull off. The best way would probably be the heavy bag.
  25. Anybody know when the third will come out? if it does?
