Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but how should one meditate. My class meditates for about 20 seconds before and after class but I want to do it on my own. How should I sit, breathe, etc? Thanks for any responses.

Uniform cleaning
ShotokanKid replied to Azmyth's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Remove the patches (if possible, mine are sewn on) and then bleach, wash, and sew patches on again. -
I do Shotokan and although I've never sparred with a TKD person, I know that they're kicks are very quick and are also used often. Explain to him that he's telegraphing too much. Teach him to not telegraph and teach him to get around kicks.

I haven't seen this yet so I'll post it: Gee that's great officer! The last five cops let me off with warnings too!

I've been doing Shotokan for 5 years, and I have a Jr. Black Belt, my dojo's second jr bb (JR BB-under 16) I do 3 hours of class a week as well as an extra hour of "apprentice teaching." I find it a very useful experience. For example, there's a kid at school who's always looking for a fight. Karate has taught me that if I want to, I can wipe the floor with this guy. But it also teaches me that I don't have to fight him. One day, this guy grabbed me. I used a quick strike upwards that didn't hit him. I used it to break loose. Then he tried to push me. I used the perry block. I didn't hit him but what I did do kind of showed him that I can defend myself and I'm not a person to pick a fight with.

Never heard of it, like everyone says, it's a great way to break your pinky

Is wearing loose undergarments such as boxers unhealthy for a certain male part? I mean obviously it's unhealthy if you get kicked there but I'm talking like for example just working out or running? Thanks for any response.

Anybody ever raised their hand in the dojo or in a classroom just to make it look like you're smart and you know what you're doing but then the teacher calls on you and you're forced to say, "I don't know'

Defending yourself against guns from a distance?
ShotokanKid replied to a topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Run! if you can't, move very rapidly from side to side up, and down, side to side, etc and when he runs out of bullets, charge him when he's trying to reload. however, needless to say, at ten feet range with a semi-automatic pistol, your chances of survival aren't too high, even if it's a spring airsoft gun. -
Defending yourself with a knife!?
ShotokanKid replied to GhostFighter's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
really... the knife isn't a good weapon unless you want to kill someone. Use your MA -
It's like when I was learning guitar, my dad would just zoom off and start playing some impossible music. Next time, tell the guy to slow down. Example: You: Sorry, I'm not quite getting it. Will you slow down and show me? He will probably say something like: Sure Explain you are new and apologize (even though it's not your fault) If you apologize, people become more agreeable. Let's say you're a vet who's doing a house call on Christmas: Them: Alright, hurry up and take a look at my dog vs. Them: I'm so sorry to drag you out away from your family on Christmas Day. Would you mind looking at my dog? It's the same. I'm almost sure if you do it that way, the guy will apologize for going to fast.

Oh, and the taller one was also skinnier than the shorter one.
-
I think I must have been able to sweep the taller one because I distracted him with face level attacks and then when he's high up I took out his legs. The shorter guy's Center of Gravity is lower than the taller guy's. Can anyone give me tips to get the stockier ones?

This is better than a boxer stance because it protects both your face and stomach. It also puts more distance between you and your opponent than a boxer's stance

I'm 14 years old and about 5'2" or so and i was sparring a kid about 2 inches taller than me. I'm famous in my dojo for sweeps (or at least I was as we haven't sparred in a long time) Anyway, I couldn't take this guy down. Two days later I sparred with a guy that's almost 6 feet tall and I took him down without really any difficulty. Why couldn't I take the smaller one down?

I'm a 14 year old male and I'm kind of skinny. Rencently, another older black belt called me weak and skinny (not that he meant to hurt me, it's just the way he talks) Anyways, I've been trying to gain weight and muscles without much success. Any tips?
