I like that idea!!!

Wow, that whole issue of a person being a weapon... frankly, it freaks me out! It's like you're just an object! Gah! As for that 890lb woman.... *snicker* *smack self for laughing at what could be a sad joke* *take some Prozac to calm down*

That is really infuriating!!! At least you guys know not to use that company ever again. You could file a report or write a letter of complaint to them, if you wish. Sorry to hear you were so inconvenienced! I personally would never order things online. I just don't trust it.

I'm probably wrong, but is it because way back when, people didn't wash their belts, so by the time they were very advanced, their belts were a dark colour?

senna_trem, get those pillows that are filled with tea or granules. They're pretty heavy! Good for punching!

He he. Cute. The other drawings are pretty good! http://usera.imagecave.com/armchairstrategist/

Shorinryu Sensei: LOL! Yeah, that article sounds quite fake to me.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but... what kind of punishment, Bama Crimson?

This is really coincidental, because it's Heian Nidan that's making me want to change my kiai. When my sensei first performed it for us, he made the last kiai more stretched out and pronounced than usual. I've started practicing what I can remember and find myself naturally kiaing a low "HAI!" when I get to the nikute (spear hand)... just like him! I fully agree with you, jarrettmeyer! Thanks very much!

People! What about your experiences in changing kiais? How have they evolved? I'd love to hear them!

Welcome, fellow Shotokan...-er? You'll love it here!

Yeah, I do! I believe his name is Sensei Omar Maldonado or something. Are you familiar?

Welcome to the site, Abyss! I'm glad you found my thread interesting!!

This is interesting. A friend of mine asked me to ask my sensei about this topic a few months ago. Apparently, where I'm from, if you fight back and actually maim or cause moderate injury to the attacker (make them bleed, break a bone, etc.), you can be charged. You'll probably go to court and have to prove that you were the innocent party. I'm sure there are clauses when it comes to the martial arts, though. Now that I think about it, actually, I remember my sensei saying something about having to prove that you study martial arts. I guess your sensei would have to testify for you. This is fair, I think, because anyone could claim to know MA and try to get away with it. When it comes to the innocent who are punished for defending themselves... karma. What goes around, comes around. That person may have gotten away with it, but they'll get what they deserve, don't worry.

Perhaps he's just trying to prevent awkwardness or even a student leaving because he/she can't stand to be around the ex. But... ...students have to leave anyway! I don't really understand this. ERPMISTER, do you think you could ask your sensei about this?

Hello, all! Lately, I've really had an urge to update my kiai, but I don't think I can. It's, in my opinion, a bit weird to just switch after so many months! After hearing one of my sensei's more different and interesting kiais (not that they're not already interesting) the other day, I'm interested in sounding more like that! For those of you out there who have done this, what was your kiai like before and what is it like now? My kiai sounds like, "KYA!" but I'm thinking that I'd like it to be more like, "HAI!" What do you think?

Great!! Anyone else? *looks around*

That's alright! Someday, somewhere, someone will turn up... *gaze out at horizon*
-
Like who? Just kidding.
-
Oh, gosh! That sucks! What does your instructor talk about? Technique, scolding?

Things to avoid doing in a Dojo

LOL! Dijita! That is so great! But isn't having a baby right where the techniques are practiced kind of risky? There's always room for error. Just today my partner slapped me just after Sensei said, "Please don't hit your partner." It was hilarious.

*gasp* LOL!

Wow... it's like my post is in a sandwich.
