in my style 8th Dan was the limit with 8th kyu the start (white) now 10th Dan is the limit and some clubs start at 9th kyu .. All within the same teaching style, Just wondering did the East change this so the west does not catch up ? or is it a different reason. please enlighten me.

Just wondering, should there be some sort os gov body to keep track of proffessional blackbelts, as i have witnessed some schools, to which there are like 4th Dan instructors that only about 20 years old, not wearing gi's just tracksuits. with names like new freesstyle karate .. i'm not knocking all freestyle but i'm sure some are not properly trained instructors from my witnessed point of view.

I am wondering is it possible to do the splits if your not natually double jointed . i can not but i guess i am not far off, Can you physically push your self further ? Can you damage muscle etc ?. is there a correct way ? I have been told your body goes through a change every 6/7 years so you should be able to,or is this a myth ?

I recently opened a club and want a good insurance to cover the students and myself. i know this question has come up before by other karate-kas, but i run a club in England where the others were not.. So please give me some info thanks.. I currently have around 30 students if this helps you.

I recently went on a seminar . to which on the fisrt day we were taught Nipipo kata (5th Dan kata) althought it was a great course, i have seen it done at least 3/4 different ways by high Dan instructors Japanese and British some even saying it's a 3rd Dan kata, So although we need to keep the tradition in this art, which one do you follow ?

If you want a traditional form i suggest and recommend the disciplin " shukokai "

Just follow your heart and mind. it will lead you to the right decissions,hense the right path. i've recently opened a school " no regrets " Jason Olsen 1st dan "shukokai"

i will teach traditional karate.. i am not in it for the money , but any profit would be re-invested in the club . . advertising,pads,overheads,etc,etc. for now it would be part time , but you never know you have to set goals. the style would be shukokai .

one of the things i do in warm up now and then is,tell the kids to jump up and down on the spot,then i take off my belt and with it doubled over and wrapped round my fist at one end i try to sweep their feet with the dangled end of the belt ( making sure i don't catch them ) the way they think they don't get hit is by jumping over the belt as it comes in.then after doing the rounds with them i swing the belt at their heads,so they have to duck ( properly with their back straight though ) then i go round not telling them if i'm going low or high with my belt. now and then you catch one of students but they don't get hurt if your controlled,its great fun aswell. the kids learn well from it,such as: fitness. confidence. balance. strength. quick reaction. good defence. try it and see.it works well in the senior class aswell but obviously harder.especially when you tie a knot on the end thats flying at them..
