My sensei says:" Everything is in Sanchin." Sanchin contains basic hand strike, block, stance, step, turn.......etc. That is why we practice sanchin for at least for 15 min. at every training & that is why its one of my favourite kata. I try to practice it daily.
Hi, I'm a beginner at karateforums. I do Uechi-Ryu karate for about 8 years & Tai Ji Quan for around 5 and I hope to have lots of fun and exchanges of ideas about different areas of MA with you guys. Have a nice day!
My favourite katas are: Sanchin (because it is the fundamental kata of Uechi-Ryu karate) & Seisan (because it's very hard and dynamic). Also, both are original chinese kata that Kanbun Uechi (the founder) brought from China in 1910.
In my style of karate students start, after learning the second kata, with a formal bunkai, which they have to do at their next test (6.kyu) but more or less we do bunkai at training all the time, discovering new ideas and polishing the old ones.
I try to train every day; 3 times a week in the Dojo for 2 hours, 4 times a week at home or outdoors in a park; running, streching, hitting heavy bag, kata and tehnics from kata, arm and leg conditioning.........etc
