  1. I think that people are blinded by thinking that UFC , Pride and so on is the prime peak of "usefull" martial arts. If they are so usefull why are there any rules at all ? Are there rules on the street ? Do you score points there ? I dont think so. The UFC, Pride , K1 ... showings have undoubtetly made sports like muay thai, kick boxing , vale tudo and so on more popular. Usually a karate practiotioner or a boxer looses and then " boooo karate sux ". But still they continue to bann certain styles due to the "safety issues involved " like for example i couldnt participate in any of theese events ( I would never even think of participating but still ) because i am a memeber of DKI ( dillman karate international ) which usage is banned from literally every such an event. Its 99% dedicated to real life situations and use. Let them put a master at ryukyu kempo karate in the ring with the yxyyyxy champion of the styles that are the "strongest" . I would love to see that fight
  2. I think the rank GrandMaster isnt that much an issue of the school as it is of the organisation ( the style ) which you practise. In Ryukyu Kempo the rank Grand Master is given to 7.dan and higher and 10. dan is Headmaster ( which we currently dont even have - in DKI cause Dillman is 9.th dan ). My sensei has just been promoted to 4th dan therefore in our organisation he is now a master at 29 or 30 ( dont know exactly ). I also think its not so much the age factor but the knowledge the ambition one shows towards sth. My sensei devoted his life to the study of this art and its no wonder after 9 years of training he has reached a masters level.
  3. IN our dojo women spar ONLY with men. They arent allowed to spar with eachother. WE constantly change our sparring partners so that you get the feeling how is it to fight with a small, large, tall, small, skinny, heavy ... opponent in real life.

    YELLOW BELT

This i WOuldnt know cause allthough it is in a way karate ( Ryukyu kempo that is ) its fairly new to our country ( except some for individuals ) and i am also new , therefore I know nothing of the camp u speak of. Sorry.
  5. Ryukyu kempo here , members of DKI ( Dillman Karate International ). Club : RKSI ( Ryukyu Kempo Slovenia ).

    YELLOW BELT

  8. AS I heard many times before, a lot of people told me that jewelry, lets say gold chains, braceletes, rings ... tend to "take away" a part of the human energie and that you should feel "heavy" while wearing jewelry. But on the other hand I ve heard from numerous bioenergists that gold is encouraged and that it keeps the energie from going away. It may all be superstition to someone, but I would still like to know what you think of this subject. Re, COBOSAN
  9. I ve heard, he told me, my naighbour said that ... Please keep the " so i ve heard .. " to yourselves. It looks like everyone should go to a Ryukyu master and get knocked out in order to believe that its true. Sure it looks hard to believe at first but once u get to know how what where and when, then u actually see what its all about.
  10. My only experience so far is when an instructor in our club saw that I was hurt during an excercise ( one of our practitians hit me in the back of my head ) I was feeling a bit woozy and than the instructor said stand still. I stood there straight and i saw he was doing something with the hands ( didnt touch me , not even once ) I felt something but he definetly didnt touch me, he just said " where are you going, where are you going ? " I was convinced that i was standing still but my body was in a 70 degree angle leaning to the left. I tried it again later to lean like that - failed miserably Bioenergy is not to be underestimated. Oh almost forgot, my< head didnt hurt a bit after that
  11. I dont actually meditate a lot but i can tell you what helps me a lot before I do my baduajin and yinyang exercises. Afcourse it must be dark ( if its sunny we make it dark ) I light up a candle that , in a dark room , takes all the attention and in the background I play an Oliver Shanti CD ( 15 Years Sattva music ). It takes about 5 minutes of heavy breathing ( nose in motuh out afcourse - with the help of colours afcourse ) and my mind is set. Although I am fairly new to the world of martial arts in both spiritual and phisical aspect, I can already feel things that my master said most practicants feel when they have been practicing for a long time. I believe that without propper relaxation of the mind as of the body you cannot achieve this state. p.s.: my favourite Oliver Shanti - Bodishattva Child ( album Tibetiya ) Cobosan
  12. Ryukyu Kempo ( DKI ) : http://www.rksi.net/default.cfm?Jezik=Si&Kat=0403 Here are the "rankings" in our style.
  13. As i found out eventhough the organ isnt present its still there in an energetic aspect therefore its still usable asthough it was there phisicaly. I hope I wrote that clearly enough. My master even suggested that we try it ( it was a joke afcourse ) but i think my gall bleder is just fine where it is
  14. Good question. I ll ask my sensei who has dedicated his life to the study of pressure point figthing and I will get back to you with an answer.

    Kenpo

I dont know for keNpo but kempo -> ryukyu kempo in my case is based on karate that originates from okinawa therefore it is being discussed here in the akrate section.
  17. Eh i wouldnt worry about it if I were you. I also had an experience when one of the higher ranked students told me ( when i didnt quite know the technique ) that " omg maybe in the next 100 tries u might be able to actually DO IT " In this case it wasnt a fact of lower rank higher rank but of "showing off". I believe there is one or two in every club ( atleast at the begining ). My advice to u is : " practise practise and more practise " not just at the dojo. I am also at the begining stages but i practise every day ( not a must but I like ryukyu kempo so much that i want to practise it , I dont feel obliged to do so ). The basics can sometimes become boring but in many skills it always comes back to the basics and if they are weak everything else will also be.
  18. In our club ( and in many others i believe ) they "make" us spar with all "dimensions" of people so that when push comes to shove u can react at any time. It depends on the style u train aswell ( if its just sports u have categories if its something usefull and there are no rules ( lets say on the street ) ) u never know what u r gonna get. I m 6"6 tall and i sparred with 250 pound gorillas and with 100 pound 5 foot women ( one of them inflicted a knee strike roght to my forehead ) it didnt hurt much but she learned how to deal with a larger opponent.
  19. The kata was Taiykoku Shodan 1. You only do gedan-barais and oi-zukis and a couple of 90, 180 and 270 degree turns. The whole kata path is H shapped. Just like we did the turns with our feet he did it with the wheelchair. We turned while doing a geda-barai he just turned with the wheel chair and then performed the gedan-barai.
  20. i study ed parker system, and i wanted to combine it with dim mak. can you describe the right techniqes for using pressure points and how to apply pressure, speed, etc. That's quite a subject there, and something that will take a lot of training. Unfortunately you cannot hope to pick it up on a forum thread. A WORD! Unfortunately its not the sort of thing u can describe by writing it down. Its not something u can learn overnight, it takes years of training before u can master just some of the techniques. Our trainer is just about to pass the masters exam ( 1.dan ) and he must know the exact piosition , the meaning, the name and the characteristics of over 400 points. Only 30-40 are commenly used because of their "appropriate position" ( which is easily reachable and can be a part of some sort of combination ). Therfore i am sorry but u have to see it , feel it to believe it. If you want to see some demonstrations go to our club website http://www.rksi.net/default.cfm?Jezik=Si&Kat=0301 here u can see some of the basic knockout techniques. please DO NOT try this yourself cause its not just a bunch of punching and kicking, and also u have to know how to handle the situation after the opponent falls down otherwise the conciquences could not be pleasant. Lp, COBOSAN
