My wife isn't interested in training at all. I think that she just doen't like to sweat and work hard. If and when we have kids, I'll hope that they are interested.

If you want upper-body strength, do some weight training. Go heavy, and low reps 6-8. Do about 3 sets of a few basic exercises. I recommend: 3 sets of Pull-downs or chin-ups 3 sets of Bench-press (flat or inclined) 3 sets of military press Don't worry about getting "big and masculine", it won't happen. It takes bodybuilding women lots of time to get the way they are. Women do not have the same hormones as men, so it takes women much more work to get as big. You can workout hard and strong without worrying about getting "too big".

Kickboxing is starting to become, if it hasn't already, a martial art of it's own. There are many places that teach "kickboxing" and that's it. It's just like boxing. I consider bxing a martial art also, it is a learned skill of beating a person down with your fists. Anyway, I feel that learning kickboxing as well as a more well-rounded martial art has benefits as opposed to just doing one or the other. You'll get your workout, you'll get sparring, you'll get to punch and kick people. I feel that sport is just another training method, and a good one at that.

Opinions based on observation. There you go, how's that? I feel that it's a very accurate assessment of how the world of martial arts is. I've seen San Shou being practiced performed at a Shaolin temple on the discovery channel...... it looked very silly to me, but maybe that wasn't a real Shaolin temple or they weren't really fighing San Shou rules. You believe what you will.

Yes it hurts really bad. But, that's all it does, it causes pain. In a fight a person can't rely on pain and should work to KO or injure their opponent. I know guys that can take a kick to the groin and all it does is make them more angry. A kick to the groin in itself won't win the fight. If you are going to kick a person in the jewels, then you better follow up with a good combination of attacks to end the fight.

"Say this influenced that, is just a "chicken egg" argument, based on opinions." Not based on opinions... based on observations within the last 20 or so years. If you notice, the Muay Thai style of fighting wasn't all that popular, the karate guys still did front kicks and the snappy round kicks. San Shou people were doing mostly side-kicks. Enter the popularity of Muay Thai, the dominance of Muay Thai in the ring vs other arts. After a few years, the othe arts systems start to change, they are checking low kicks with their shins now, just like Thaifighters, and they are throwing Thai-style kicks. You say it's based on opinion, but after seeing the evolution of martial arts, I say it's fact.

Gloves on are equal terms. Even if his "iron palm" has foam coving it, it will still be extremely hard, right? His iron hand will still strike much harder than a "normal" hand through the foam and cause the damage. But you know what, take the gloves off and I still think that Gong or Paulson would wipe the floor with any "iron fist" or "iron palm" fighter. I would love to see Cung Le fight a top-notch Muay Thai fighter. What would the rules be though, hmmm. I think we should just have Cung Le fight MMA (no rules) against a Muay Thai fighter. I don't thinkn Cung Le could handle the likes of Alex Gong. -

Both men have the leather and foam wrapped around their fist, it's equal terms. Also, i thought someone said that the Iron Fist fought in San Shou, don't they wear gloves also? Nto a very good arguement on your side. -
It's a very naive thought that we can settle this matter peacefully. The time for peace is gone, these terrorists need to be destroyed. If we wage war against these terrorists, everyone won't be dead, but they will be. A dead person is no longer a threat. The Bin Laden group has been at WAR with the USA for over a decade, it's just that they haven't realy been considered a threat until Tuesday, well now we should strike back. What else should we do? Just forget about it and let them keep doing their terrorist attacks on us?

Other countries should support us in this. It took Pearl Harbor to get us to help Europe out in WWII, sure, but so what?! When we got involved, we got the job done, the other countries can't solve their own problems, who helps? The USA does! Who rebuilt France? What thanks do we get for that? What country gives the most charity money per capita? The USA. Here is an article written by a good Canadian that has a little sense: "This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States. When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it. When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped. The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans. I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American planes? Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon - not once, but several times - and safely home again. You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here. When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke. I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake. Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those." We don't need the help of other countries to get these terrorists, we just need them to stay out of our way. Everytime we strike against a country, it seems that many other countries cry out against the USA. What we need after this attack is for the other countries to say "kick their butts!!", that's all.

LOL.. well ok, your facts seem to be different from other facts, but that's ok, Erik is still a world-class fighter regardless. Your Master Po... hardly known. Has your Po guy fought in any MMA, NHB type of events? I would place my bet on Erik before an "Iron Fist" person anyday. -
Before you go out training in Kyokushinkai to get ready for Muay Thai, you should consider that Kyokushinkai has very "different" rules. They don't wear gloves or head-gear. Mouthpiece and cup is required. Any hand, elbow or head strike to the head area is illegal. Grabbing is illegal. There you go. If you can't hit the head and train that way, then you'll be really hurting when entering a Muay Thai competition. Keep that in mind. Also, the clinch is a very big part of Muay Thai fighting, so that type of training is crucial.
-
Kyokushinkai fighters started to train like Thai-boxers in the recent years and have adapted many Muay Thai techniques. It's very obvious just by watching how they do their techniques as compared to 20 years ago. " Mas Oyama would observe those from other styles and adopt any techniques that would be useful in a fight. " Some people are still in denial that Muay Thai has influenced many, many martial arts in the last decade. Other systems that have adapted Muay Thai technique are Shotokan, Seidokaikan and San Shou, just to name a few. There is nothing wrong with the adaptation of Muay Thai into their systems, I just wish they wouldn't deny it. Muay Thai has adapted western boxing into it, it's made Muay Thai even more formidable. I guess it's a nationalistic pride thing that keeps these other systems from admitting the Thai influence of their martial art systems. Kyokushinkai will teach you how to kick and punch, but they will also give you much information and techniques that are useless, in my opinion. They'll teach you kata, board breaking and other methods of training that I feel are not very good. But maybe you'll find a Kyokushinkai school that is pretty good, check it out, you'll never know unless you try.

Fact... Erik Paulson was light-heavyweight Shooto champion of Japan for 5 years. -
One of our lady-martial artists (Thaiboxer) was attacked in a parking lot. This big guy pushed her and called her "bitch". Well right after she was push, she threw a Thai-style round kick low and the guy went down. He couldn't get back up because his ACL on that leg was ripped to shreds. This lady is a tiny lady and we are proud that she defended herself against a big threat. Her strategy against a big guy worked great. Power, low-line cut kick and accuracy. The biggest trees will fall when chopped down low.

Regardless of his few losses, Erik Paulson is one of the better fighters of the world. Many people don't think he is because he has an american name and doesn't have an accent, but I can look past that. An american can be a great fighter without having asian, brazillian or russian accents. Alex Gong has lost 2 fights that I know of, I've seen him fight many times and he dominated every fight that I saw. He has one of the most powerful kicks of any martial artist and he's very good with his boxing skills. I'm sure Master Pan would have a hard time getting a KO on either of these two fighters, heck, I think he would be hard pressed to win. -

Also, the majority of the crowd didn't think that Alex should've lost that fight in Las Vegas. Alex cut the other man up with his elbows. Apparently the judges didn't think that elbow strikes should be scored very high. -

Erik Paulson did not get creamed, he was just taken by surpise with the hair thing. Since then, Erik has shaved his hair short. He is one of the best fighters in the world, and was 5 years undefeated champ in the light-heavy weight japanese Shooto circuit. Alex Gong lost one fight, everyone does. But he's still a very good fighter. -

In that case, I'd like to see Master Pan fight Alex Gong, Rickson Gracie, Sakuraba, Pedro Sauer or Erik Paulson. Would be neat to see how well his Iron Fist does against world-class fighters. -

Wife is an LPN. I just ask her. Also, I have taken material structure in my nuclear engineering classes. Cement is made out of minerals, which is a crystalline structure and is brittle, it has no give to it once it is hardened. Bones have organic structure and can bend just a little bit, allowing the bone to absorb shock. Also, bones are protected by muscle and tendons, which also absorb shock of impact. Bones do start to get a more brittle as we age, that's why it's important to intake calcium as we grow older.

Well.. here is my own criteria for whether or not I will train a martial art. Do they punch in horse-stance and pull their non-punching hand to the hip? If they do, it's a minus to the score. Do they do Kata? If they do, another minus. If they do kata, do they teach application for each and every movement of the Kata? If they don't teach the application, I definitely won't attend the classes. If they break boards for test, it's a minus. If they charge extra test fees that are more than just a charge for the actual cost of the new belt, that's a minus. If they spar for 3 minutes and a total of less than 10 strikes are thrown by both parties, that's a minus. If there are kids less than 16 years old running around with black-belts, that's a minus. If the instructor is caucasion, but talks with a japanese accent, I won't train there. These are just my own criteria for judging a school/ dojo. Take em or leave em.
