Best Grappling Art for Self-Defense?
jedimc replied to MFGQ's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Both Judo and BJJ have emphasis on sport but I would say Judo is alot more about the sport . from what I have seen from the self defence videos of BJJ it seems like a effective defence art but one scenarios is if you go up close to try and grapple someone and they pull out a knife while you are trying to pull them to the ground then it is easy to stab or slash someone from that close especially if your not focusing on what is in the other hand that you have not disabled yet. but I have never done BJJ or fought someone who did it so its only my opinion. -

Shenmue 3 will great I want to see how it finishes and how the fight will be with Lan Di. -
I want to buy a MA rpg game and I have found Mortal Kombat: shaolin monks and Jade Empire, Are these games good. I know that Jade empire has got made up styles and I would rather the real names instead of made up ones but it looks like a good game . I have played Shenmue II which is a RPG from sega dreamcast but it was ported to xbox , this is one of the best games I have played and it was a joy to play.

starting aikido
jedimc replied to karate kid 1's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Go watch a few classes and try a few before you commit, Talk to the teacher and try to get his views on Aikido eg does he teach a more self defence style or a style that relies more on ki and fluidness or a bit both. -
Systema vs Bagua Palm
jedimc replied to Ali's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I dont think theres many systema practioners on here (im not sure) but Systema may share some similarities because it exists in russia (which would of had to had some martial experience with china or it might be the other way), I know I read somewhere that Chinese kings (I think) had russian body guards to protect them. I dont know much on systema but I know it was created in russia and there are martial artists there that have kept there style in familys and so on for centuries, these styles were not known as russia had alot of isolation over the years but the russian special forces got taught these martial arts.(combat sambo is one) Some people believe that many chinese martial arts could of actually been created in russia and taught to the chinese but I guess we might not ever find out. -

Knowledge of Aikido
jedimc replied to Alucard's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Aikido will take longer to learn than some other style's but you will get the rewards in the end, there are many styles today of Aikido and it can become a bit confusing here is website's explaining the different styles/organisations http://www.aikidofaq.com/introduction.html http://www.aikidoaus.com.au/dojo/docs/styles.htm Finding a good instructer maybe the most important thing you must do to create your own powerful style of aikido as when you learn you will try imitate your instructers style but you will notice you cant because your instructer has a different body type than you causing different movements, everyone has there own blend of aikido. -

Thats a great idea, and you could go evil or good and your techniques would differ if you are evil or good. -

A good MA video game
jedimc replied to orion82698's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
well you don't have to do that because I already have it.Some time ago I bought K-1 World Grand Prix. This game is pretty much like what you are describing, but it's even better.Because it has real fighters and when you fight theres actual foot work and realistic moves. The best part is that it's not a button masher, you have to see what areas are open to strike and deliver a punch or kick to that area.I seriously recomend it for people that are into martial arts.At least rent it at the video store. You can find it cheap and even cheaper used at game stores. good luck Dude, you're my hero! I didn't even know it exsited! Picking it up tonight! Does it actually have like "Training sessions" and stuff? Sounds like a cool game but I dont think its down here in Australia. -

aikido a grappling art?
jedimc replied to Goju_boi's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Well Aikido is based around the sword, the techniques are made to be used if the enemy has a sword in there hand - its the same with the knife (Tanto). Aikido can be used to disable a person with a gun, just dont get in the way of the hole where the bullet comes out lol. This clip is a good demo it has knife and sword parts in it - (12mb) http://www.met.rdg.ac.uk/~sws99dsc/rdgaikido/AikidoDemo1.wmv another demo - (17.8mb) http://www.met.rdg.ac.uk/~sws99dsc/rdgaikido/Aikido_Demo.avi -

I thought the music was some of the best for the fights they had. The music is an important part of a fight scene.
