For a school project? That is soo cool. What kind of project? yeah i did it for the duke of edinburgh award , it is made for young people, you do special tasks to get the award , the things i had to do is certain amount of hours of community service, physical recreation(karate), a skill, and camps that must go on for a certain amount of days and it must involve a activity in it like bushwalking or cayaking. quote from the award website" The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a voluntary, non-competitive and flexible programme of cultural and adventurous activities for all young people, whatever their background or ability. It gives opportunities for personal achievements, adventure, community and social involvement and a widening of interests. The Award is a registered charity and relies on the generous support of volunteers, local authorities and business to meet its commitment to help all young people realise their full potential"

Hi i was going through some old Guiness book of records and i looked through one of the them (australian edition, 1973) and i read the part about Tae kwon do being a lethal variation of karate, what do you think about this , back in the 70s they would of not known much about it, what do you think about Taekwondo theys days. I copyed the whole part so you could have a read. KARATE Origins Based on techniques devised from the 6th century Chinese art of Chuan-fa (Kempo), karate (empty hand) was developed by an unarmed populace in Okinawa as a weapon against armed oppressors. Transmitted to Japan in the 1920's by Funakoshi Gichin, the founder of modern karate, this method of combat was further refined and organised into a sport with competitive rules. The five major styles of karate in Japan are: Shotokan, Wado-ryu, Goju-ryu, Shito- ryu and Kyokushinkai, each of which place different emphasis on speed and power etc. Tae kwan-do is a lethal Korean variation on Karate, which has been used for military purposes.

While we are still talking about karate kid movie, i was wondering if the dodging training technique in karate kid II is any good, if you dont know what im talking about you know when mr miyagi takes daniel(i think thats his name i forget) to the old fishing place and there is a big hook hanging up at the roof and mr miyagi tells daniel to push a lever and the big hook comes down and mr miyagi dodges it with a soto uke(inward forearm block, it look like that) yer is that a good way to train your reflexe, speed, instinct but of course you wouldnt use a big SHARP hook, you could use a ball or something.

A instructer should'nt get frustrated if you cant learn a move properly or fast enough.

Jedimc: You want to be entertained??? Or are you just saying that if taekwondo made it to the olympics, well, so should karate? Why? Because you think it's better, superiour? Or you you just want it to become recognized as a sport..? Again why? Just asking... Like you said i also gasp for any martial arts on tv but i never see competitions, i see movies and that it, but when i do see martial art competition its the olympic judo and taekwondo and i thought if taekwondo can be in the olympic then can karate can be too. I respect everyone's thought about this subject and the people who think it should not be a olympic sport have a good point. Taekwondo is a great art and im not saying anything bad about it , it would be nice have see a karate competition on the tv.

jedimc replied to jedimc's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
He didnt make a mistake im sure he lied to me , but i kept on asking him and he said "im doing a ninja school" and i said you must be doing some form of ninjistu. He just just started so he would be learning kicks and strikes and stuff and yes he does learn to stab with weapons but he doesnt know how to fly, i guess you would need alot of chi for that. -

I think karate allready has a bad name for itself , if I mention that I do karate at school, everyone at my school would think that im wasting my time and training with 2 year olds, because tv and hollywood have made karate look bad, but if said i am learning jujitsu then wow man that sounds pretty good watever it is, they dont understand what it is because tv hasnt had enough time to wreck the art. Even if the olympics wreck karate theres always gonna be some people in the world that will say that karate looked pretty good at the olympics and they will probaly join a dojo becuase of it.

for anyone who lives in the Melbourne I recomend watching Jackie Chan's CityHunter on thursday 11:35 on channel SBS. good for those on school holiday, eh eh

I actually submitted a few weeks back but that was before I was a member of this forum, but it would be good to see karate matches at the olympics, the problems probaly is that there is so many styles of karate but I dont know how they would work it out, imagine The gold Karate VS the gold Taekwondo now that would be a good match.
